I can't live without this product...

Hello, heaven! I have combination skin and fair skin, so both burning and shininess are an issue for me. This stuff keeps my shine at bay all day, plus the SPF 20 is more than most traditional lotions. I love it so much- I started using this product about three months ago and I think I've only gone two or three days without it since (when I ran out, of course)!
I like "Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control Lotion" (Others who like it too...pamelairene artsyfartsy papoose! )

I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product...

Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara

I love this mascara so much. I have issues with raccoon eyes, and this mascara- once it's on, it doesn't budge. I use it daily, even when I wear no other makeup.
I like "Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara" (Others who like it too...debs )

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ...

Benefit Eyebright

Or at least I'd look like I started drinking at noon. Even though I have really large eyes, I get dark circles from- who'da thunk it- not sleeping much, as I'm in college. This stuff keeps my eyes from looking totally dead, even after an all-nighter.

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips...

I actually learned this from my hairdresser- if you're going out in high humidity situations (hello, Florida!), spray your face with aerosol hairspray. Strange, but true- it works like that Model in a Bottle stuff but at half the price. Keeps the makeup in place fairly well and- bonus! Your brows stay in place /without/ the expensive gel.

How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine?

Get glam? Oh man, at least an hour if we're including clothes. I will change my outfit at least three times, and change my makeup to match. I'm not so much for doing the hour-long makeup routine daily, though. Just my face wash, medi-matte, concealer, and mascara- then I'm out the door. Half an hour tops. But if I'm getting really dolled up? I need at least an hour, usually more.

While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is...

That has to be the time I convinced myself I wanted a perm when my hair was only chin-length. I had a fro for months!

My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is...

None really. A young Angela Lansberry, once- and Drew Barrymore, once. Also, according to Miss Gigi of the Drugstore Deal-ification: "Scarlett O'Hara, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Delta Burke when she was thin."

  • champ3377 says, Dear Scarlett, Please forgive me for not contacting you earlier. My eye problems are causing ridiculous headaches and it's breaking my heart to see my mom--one day she is completely lucid (she is the most brilliant person I have ever known), but other times she's "out of it" and we're trying to track to see if they're over-medicating her. She's in a premiere facility, but many employees have the "it's-not-my-job" attitude and we bounce from one nurse to another without answers. I greatly appreciate your support and prayers. Thanks and God Bless, Gigi

  • vagabond says, Thanks, I have tried the water thing and it is great for refreshing your makeup. My dream is to one day find a product that literally shellacs it to your face for the whole day without rubbing or sweating off yet still looks perfectly natural and feels great, then washes off easily. I can dream can't I?

  • vagabond says, Hey Girl, just read your review on "scent portables". What are you going to school to be? Or have you decided yet? I am curious about the hair spray on your face thing, I grew up in Florida, now in Alabama (not much difference in humidity) I have the model in a bottle stuff but it just seems to dry my face out ( I have dry skin anyway) not sure about the hair spray but I am working up the nerve to try it.

  • champ3377 says, Forgive me, Vivien Leigh look-alike (HUGE compliment!), for taking so long to get back to you. Along with issues with my mom, I've been bounced from doctor to doctor. Yesterday one described SEVEN issues I have with my eyes, all eventually correctable, but not quite fixable now. My vision is affected, but I can certainly work with it. It's the non-stop headaches that render me non-functional. I never had headaches before. Thank you SO MUCH for your sincere concern--you are as gorgeous inside as you are on the outside, and that's far more important! I am TERRIBLY SORRY to hear about your sister. Please let me know how she is. The minute I read that line, I prayed for her TOTAL healing. Love and God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Gorgeous one--how are you? Are you healed? I've been away with health issues and my mom has been diagnosed with cancer--everywhere. Yikes, this is hard to take! But I'm praying my way through and prayer does help, as you know. God Bless, Gigi

  • sammy says, But promise you won't use the store tester on your eyes...I know it would probably be ok, but it's just not worth taking the chance. You can talk them into giving you your very own sealed free sample to take home -- that would be much better.

  • sammy says, Have you tried one of the new "tube" mascaras like Fiberwig or KissMe? I have some of the same eye sensitivity issues you described and these mascaras have made a huge difference for me. Maybe something to try when free sample presents itself?

  • champ3377 says, The "Drugstore Dutchess" is frustrated so my review will be mundane--I ordered makeup (afraid to say the name here) and was wrongly charged. Neither they nor the bank will back down and I'm ready to scream (we lost nearly $500--someone else used our debit number and we incurred overdraft fees!). My mom isn't feeling well, and our dog playfully hit me in the eye (I had cataract surgery last month). It hurts! We all have our beauty issues, but you are EXQUISITE. Every time I look at that photo of you, I smile. Simply gorgeous! You are SO smart--never, ever deal with blemishes in a harsh manner. It inevitably results in scarring; when I was in modeling school, it was drilled into me to touch my face as seldom as possible and to sleep on my back. Touching spreads germs and can cause your skin to sag. Supposedly Mario Badescu has a stellar solution to make blemishes disappear quickly but I haven't tried it. Vexy, this may be a positive thing. Most of the women I know who have oily skin and blemishes age very well, while those with none and dry skin tend to wither. It's not science, just an observation on my part. My face still is prone to cyclical breakouts, but no lines--yet!

  • champ3377 says, Sorry about your eye sensitivity. My sister can't even use Almay--only Clinique, and sometimes it will still irritate her. She, too, has to be especially careful around her eyes. Okay, let's put a positive spin on that--your eyes have no oil glands. The less you deal with them, the less the chance will be that you'll develop crow's feet, etc. I have a feeling that you'll be a luminous 99-year-old woman in a rocking chair, still gorgeous!

I laughed at the description of your brows and now I'm snorting over the "sneezing" reaction (highly attractive, to be sure). • champ3377 says, I'm so sorry to hear the story of your mom--you had to be frightened half to death! I hate, hate, hate when doctors don't listen. It's happened before here, and Pittsburgh is supposedly "THE" city for superior medical care. My mom underwent quadruple-bypass surgery after having nine heart attacks in one night and all went well, thank God. They did not even bandage the area where they removed the artery, and it was infected. My husband, sister, family and I kept telling the doctors that it was turning burgundy and we were ignored. She developed gangrene and had to have plastic surgery (this, at the age of 78)! And my brother-in-law is incredibly fit (170 pounds and a year-round track coach). He gained forty pounds in three days and several physicians had no problems with it--it was water retention caused by heart failure! We are so grateful he is well, too. I am not combative by nature and avoid confrontation, but I've made an appointment with my physician (who couldn't even bother to tell me himself that I am okay after I spent long days praying my head off). In a ladylike manner, I plan to discharge him and ask him to please tend to his other patients with concern, even if he has to "fake" it--they trust him and he is cavalier and arrogant. So sorry to hear about your beautiful eyes, but don't think I'm nuts here: Before I was born, Dr. Norman Bates wrote a book called "Better Eyesight Without Glasses." Now they have the "See Clearly" method. It's a way to improve your vision through eye exercises, and it works! Think about it, the eye is a muscle and can be exercised like any other. Moreover, eye disease is treated with large dosages of vitamins (especially macular degeneration). Make them an integral part of your daily routine to stop any more damage from happening; you're so young. Doctors will tell you to avoid this because they're not "into" prevention (in general, as I don't mean to stereotype here). Anyway, THANK YOU for your concern and prayers! Oh, did you see the movie version of Anna Karenina with Sophie Marceau? She is beyond gorgeous! I think this was as long as "Exiled to Siberia . . ." God Bless and Thanks Again, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, I'm forgetful right now--sorry. How am I? I think I told you I had cataracts removed in both eyes in May and then June. I started to lose my eyesight around Christmas, and it grew worse by the day. I thought I was losing my mind because of the rate of change. I saw a prominent eye surgeon and he said in a condescending, cavalier manner: "Gigi, you're going blind. It's very strange that you developed such dense cataracts as your age, or at ANY age. I'll remove them but you still won't be able to see (I actually WAS blind in my left eye and could only make out colors). You have other problems with macular degeneration and your retinas. You're going permanently blind, so deal with it. Moreover, you'll most likely fall and break a bone before this is over because of your poor vision." I thought I'd strangle him! It was terrifying. So I saw his partner, the founder of this large practice, and he was much more encouraging; surgery was done. My eyesight is returning and I am most grateful to the Lord, but my eyes aren't working together yet and I lack detail and depth perception. And then I learned a few weeks ago that the EKG they did before surgery (mandatory procedure) came back with abnormalities--my doctor "forgot" to read it before surgery! He ordered stress tests and they are specifically meant for people who have heart attacks or are prime candidates for them (they inject radioactive isotopes and it takes a long time). Vexy, I was non-functional. I never saw that one coming. My husband cried often, my sister and her family were heartbroken, and I waited to tell my mom until two days before my tests. They were grueling. They would not let me off the treadmill as the goal is to work your heart as much as possible, and I was sure I'd die during that part. I'm fit, exercise, and eat wisely--how did this happen? I tried to make them laugh during the treadmill and said, "I'll tell you all the government secrets I know if you'll stop this." Then I said, "Please let me off--I'll give you makeup and skincare items!' The cardiologists and nurses howled but told me to keep going. I prayed my way through the rest. I had to wait until just this afternoon for my doctor's office to phone me and tell me all was well. Thus, I KNEW all along how sickening it must have been for you to be hurting. Our prayers were both answered! Sorry for the dissertation, young and lovely one, but I need to vent. Meg wanted to put it on the site (love her, love her, love her!), but I didn't want my school administrators to read anything as they are expecting me to be healthy in the fall. I made Meg's site mandatory reading for my students and used it as an example of how small businesses are begun and run. I am "whacked!"

  • champ3377 says, I am dumbfounded at what you know at your tender age. When I was 19, we would cover ourselves with baby oil and literally fry in the sun. I quit sunning many years ago to prevent skin damage and/or cancer. Besides, the look of a fair complexion on many women is stunning, especially you. This is the truth: One of the most people women I've passed in my life was on Fifth Avenue when I worked for Price Waterhouse in Pittsburgh right out of college. Her skin was porcelain and her hair black--the contrast left me standing there with my mouth agape and I wanted to look like her so much. If you get a chance, send or post more photos. I have no good ones of me and our digital camera needs to be repaired. Thank God that you're on crutches. Being laid up at any time is not fun, especially during the summer. I still continue to pray for you and it seems to be working, as your boyfriend sounds like a "keeper." Vexy, I have no tolerance for stingy people, and he's definitely in love. You're a savvy woman and I'm sure you're doing the best to keep your hair in shape (using anti-chlorine shampoos, etc.). I also like Phytotheratrie's line. It's pricey, but it actually DOES act like a chemical "bandage" to heal and protect. Nexxus was my favorite for many years, but the formula is not the same since it was mass-marketed. I recently read that Cindy Crawford prevents hair damage by combing conditioner into her tresses and pulling her hair back as she flies, travels, whatever. When she has a chance, she rinses it out--no split ends, frizz, or dryness. I'm laughing; I love words and "brandish" is genius! Thanks for letting me know how you are. It was just SO GOOD to hear from you again, Miss Scarlett! God Bless, Gigi
