About Me
I am also a complete and total raging shoe addict. I can't resist a uniquely adorned or brightly colored pair of shoes. I am hitting upwards of 150 pairs of shoe's and my husband may divorce me if I come home with another pair! But I love each of them like my children. I dress rather conservatively...until you get to my shoes. You will typically find me in all black or in jeans and a white button up shirt with a rainbow of brightly colored shoes on my feet. I love to coordinate eye shadow and liner colors to my shoes. I let my eyes and my feet do the talking! SO FUN and makes me HAPPY all day long. My new obsession is facial cremes. As I enter my mid thirties I am greatly concerned about emerging wrinkles, reversing sun damage and getting a more porcelain looking skin tone. My tanning days are over and its me against the clock now! GLAM ON megsmakeup gals!!!

I can't live without this product...

I'm all about textures...how something feels holding it in my hand, how it soothes as it passes my skin, how it leaves me feeling after the beauty ritual is gone. All of this accounts for my love of my Too Faced retractable Kabuki Brush. To begin with it has a compact, light and ADORABLE pink metal casing with tiny flowers on it that feels cool and sleek in the palm of my hand. Way different feeling than standard plastic or wood brushes. Then you pop it open and discover the "Teddy Bear Hair" brush softness. That's what Too Faced calls the bristles. They are so, so soft you find yourself constantly swirling it around your face and neck and falling into a lovely daydream where you are draped in an airy gauze linen dress, laying in your bungalow sipping wine while scantily clad servant men fan you with ostrich feathers. Wow, that was a nice mental vacation. Back to reality. Anyway, the brushes are great because they are cruelty free since they aren't made of animal hair and they don't carry some of the hygiene problems as real hair brushes either. This lovely little brush just perfectly applies all of my favorite face and neck powders. When I get the chance I'll have one for my travel tote as well as the one I keep on my already overcrowded vanity!

I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product...

Lumene Radiant C Beauty Drops

I love these little individual capsules. They emit a kind of yellow goo when you cut them open but when you put it on your face it glides over your skin like silk. It gives me a soft, luminous kind of muted glow. I put this on at night after my regular skin care and wake up with the softest skin...ready for a new day. I need to experiment to see if it works well under makeup but I love my Smashbox primer so much I can't imagine putting a layer of this on UNDER that too. For now I just love it for when I want to have a clean face and a soft glow (around the house and on weekend days). I find it on CVS.com. They also travel beautifully for a quick trip...toss a few in your bag and go!

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ...

Juara Rice Facial Cleanser

I reviewed this a while back and its STILL my favorite. I use other cleansers out of guilt (I hate waste or to think something isn't getting used so I'll use something I know doesn't work just to not waste) and I always come back to this when I start to break out. The scent is DIVINE, the cleansing isn't harsh and it a TREAT to use it every time. I'm absolutely in love.

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips...

I cannot stand the oily consistency of most "oil free" make up removers and searched for ages for a mild remover that doesn't burn my eyes or leave an oil slick behind. I finally realized that Mary Kay's Creamy Cleanser 2 (an actual face wash and NOT marketed as a remover) does the job beautifully. My makeup comes off easily, I don't have to tug at the delicate skin around my eyes to get my mascara and liquid liner to come off, it doesn't burn AT ALL and my eyes are nicely moisturized with absolutely NO OIL. I have tried SO many other products and stumbled upon this product by accident. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone who wants sting and oil free make up removal.

How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine?

To really get glam (out for dinner or a date with my hubby) it takes me about an hour and a half...if I'm not on a time schedule it's more about 2 hours because I stop about every 45 minutes or so for a cocktail break! I have naturally curly hair and find it looks best when I let it air dry so that adds time. Even diffusers leave me frizzy and my curls out of control. For a typical day at work or weekend morning I can usually get in under an hour if I do my full skin care regime, go light on the makeup and upsweep my hair.

While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is...

Mine would have to be the Great Lip Liner Debacle of 1990. I was a sophomore in high school...that was the year Pretty Woman came out and I was OBSESSED with Julia Roberts lips. I have a thin upper lip (which I HATE) and read a makeup tip somewhere that said to make your lips look fuller blot out your natural line with concealer and redraw the line outside of your regular lip line. I happily complied and ended up looking like I missed my lip completely. My mom was SO sweet about it. She just gave me a knowing little chuckle and let me figure out my mistake on my own without embarassing me or making me feel like the clown I actually looked like! GO MOM...you're the best!

My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is...

I've been told Meg Ryan before the cosmetic surgery days. I have a very "When Harry Met Sally" kind of cuteness to my face. I've never been what you would call pretty or beautiful but I am damn cute with a bubbly personality.

  • steph222 says, I totally wish that I could sleep on my back, but I just have to sleep on my side or I can't sleep at all. I also never know which sheets to use as they say that satin ones are good for your skin, but they make your hair really staticky (sp?) and the cotton ones are good for your hair, but cause wrinkles in your skin! Maybe they need to make some that are half satin & half cotton!! Hey, there's my fortune!! :)

  • champ3377 says, I actually shed tears over your message. I'm now on an unpaid leave from school for my eye problems and it's terribly hard, especially when my wonderful mom is sick. I feel alone although I know the Lord is with me and so are my husband family members. I was feeling so left out--you have NO IDEA how much I needed that! You are simply precious! Love and God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Hey, I missed you! Thanks for the welcoming remarks. Doctors can't decide what's causing my non-stop headaches and loss of vision; my mom has cancer. This is a bad dream and I'm trying to hang in, but it's hard. You never fail to make me smile, and I am grateful! I didn't recall being able to smile right now. Once more, YOU ARE RIGHT (you are ALWAYS right)--I was hesitant to recommend Nivea's creme because there have been issues with the level of sun protection, but it is light enough to be used in conjunction with another product. On television I heard something on the news talking about a line of skin care with SPF of 150, but I missed the brand. I've been "white, white, white" for the last twenty years. I used to literally fry myself with baby oil, but then I realized that I was setting myself up for skin cancer as well as tough, wrinkled skin. I don't "do" sun unless it's with the highest SPF sunscreen I can find and sometimes a hat and sunglasses. I play up my fair "Scarlett O'Hara" complexion and it's gotten attention. Great to hear from you . . .

  • pinked says, Hey there I am new to the site, but I noticed you say your tanning days are over. Since you stumbled on the Mary Kay Creamy Cleanser you should try our new subtle tanning lotion. It goes on like a cream and smells like the beach. I used it in the spring when I was ghastly white from head to toes. It did not run or turn me orange. I even put on a white skirt right after applying it and my skirt stayed white. Any Mary Kay consultant will have it or check out my site www.marykay.com/acarrico

  • finnanagan says, I DO like it...I've been using it for about four days now, morning and night, I can really tell a difference. I like it because you can wear it under make-up during the day. I have an extremely rowdy 2 and a half year old little boy, so my housework and "me time" gets put off until he goes to bed, which lately has been anywhere from 10:00 to 11:00p.m., therefore I am up late plus have always been a morning person, so I'm up early which equals very little sleep. Dark circles and puffiness have definately been a big concern. But thanks to some very effective home remedies and the Burt's Bees eye jelly, I look a lot more rested. Thanks for writing.

  • pyper says, Yes, I have tried some Urban Decay but not the shadows. I always look at them longingly, but for some reason, I haven't purchased any yet. I believe I will take your advice and try some. Have you tried Pop Beauty? I love the eyeshadow, especially the Neon Pop set, which has these incredibly brilliant colors that really complement any makeup and eye color. The eyeliner is also quite unique in its variety of colors. Thank you so much for the information. I shall return my comments presently. Happy Beauty Day!

  • champ3377 says, Thank you for the information, sagacious one (you're one of the five people on the planet who knows what that adjective means!). Yikes--I feel like I'm going to be served as turkey on Thanksgiving. I had hereditary creases but my skin was always flawless. I detest the skin on my neck there right now (well, thank God I do have skin). God Bless, Gigi (Your Fan)

  • pyper says, Hello, sweetassgal! Thanks a bunch for adding me to your buddy list. I really enjoy your writing, and that's saying a lot since I am a wrtier by profession. We seem to have a lot in common--both fair-skinned, sun-damaged, hopeless beauty addicts. But you are in gorgeous CA & I am stuck in BFE right now. There are hardly any shops & not much in the way of on-trend beauty buys. I mostly shop on the Internet. What's the latest thing you're obsessing over? I'd love to hear from you, Pyper

  • champ3377 says, What an incredible post--kudos! Again, I admire and love how you blend information and humor. Angie, my sister has very sensitive skin. Do you think this would work for her? Your opinion, please. I lost just a few "vanity" pounds and my neck is becoming a bit wrinkled (I've had hereditary lines there since I was a child and recall adjusting my clothing to cover them when I was nine). What would you recommend to plump sensitive neck skin and help prevent me looking like a Thanksgiving turkey? God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Okay, the truth always comes out anyway so I'm going to admit something. Your mix of insight, wisdom, and wit is a sheer delight. Yes, I work hard on my pieces but try to reassure myself that if no one reads them, I've done my very best. My husband and I haven't vacationed at all yet due to eye surgery and heart tests for me (all is well, but the last few months have been frightening). Our bank permitted unauthorized charges to our debit card and I took it to the PA Department of Banking (we lost over $500). We always go away--especially to a lake or ocean, if possible--for renewal. He said, "How about next Tuesday?" I said, "Well, what about Wednesday? It's 'Green Chi Tuesday.'" He sweetly asked, "What the hell is that?" And I said, "Angie's report. I wait for it!" Angie, I do have a life, but if I need a lift I can always count on you.

  • jnsreine says, Hey! Have not tried the Clarisonic brush. Just can't seem to make myself plunk down that kind of dough on just one product! I am still having problems with my skin! I am going back to Pro-active, as sadly I have tried just about everything Sephora has to offer. I have found a wonderful mask that you mix yourself from my local farmers' market. Just as soon as she gets it available on her website, I will try and post a review here. It literally leaves your skin smooth as glass, so stay tuned! I also plan on getting the Khiel's that desertdoll recommended!

  • greenie says, Hi, I am sooo sorry it has taken me this long to get back to you. I have not been wearing the magnets for about a month or so, I feel off the wagon, lol, but I have noticed a big difference in not wearing them! I have less energy, look more tired, and feel sorty of sluggish...and I feel like I have gained a few pounds since I stopped too, so I will be getting back on them this week, hopefully. They have worked wonders for me, and that nasty powder too! I drink that about three times a week when I do the magnets everynight. Let me know if you have any other questions! xo, Em

  • champ3377 says, Thanks--I am so "into" sultry, smokey eyes that the shades stopped me in my tracks. I put down the mascara I was going to review and picked up all three palettes. You simply can't go wrong with this goof-proof palette, especially at a price of $10.00. I hear you about thin lips--my sister and I kid my mom and tell her that she could have passed her blue eyes, full lips, and bust to us and are angry she didn't. Try searching for a shade with a bit of pink or coral infused in it--not a very vivid hue, but red nonetheless. Lorac used to do a perfect, wearable years ago which I reviewed for another site, but it's been discontinued. And I am continuing to search for Tone . . . I have a friend who is fair, has auburn hair, and her scarlett shade really flatters her. I'll ask her what it is.
