About Me
I have had a love affair with makeup my entire life. My girlfriends even called me "Covergirl" in high school b/c I was always putting on makeup in class, the car, lunch, wherever I could get decent light or I was fixing someone else's. I have the passion for makeup, but could always use help w/ color choices or application tips. Any pointers would be much appreciated. So glad that I found this site!!

I can't live without this product...

I have thick, wavy hair that doesn't have a "nice" wave to it, but more like that of a biker that took the 4 elastics out of his ponytail and ran a brush through it - not pretty! The only way that I can get my style to look good is to either straighten it with an iron (which, even with a ceramic iron is quite damaging) or Phytodefrisant. It has absolutely changed my life! And I don't even have to use my straightener any longer. I get compliments on my hair on a regular basis & my girlfriends are always shocked at how wavy my hair looks without it. It also has this uncanny ability to work better and better with each use! I have many friends hooked on it - even if they leave their hair curly, they say that it really smooths the curls out, taking away the frizz. I could give up everything else before this product!! Enjoy!
I like "Phytodefrisant Relaxing Balm" (Others who like it too...moonlessbraclet mamamia blondiemakeupgal boosteds10 )

I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product...

Kerastase Reflection Shampoo & Conditioner

I used to be a shampoo/conditioner whore! I was always trying new products, never satisfied... and then one day, the clouds parted & what appeared before my eyes but Kerastase (sound the revelry)!! I'll be the first to admit that it is expensive, but it is soooo worth it!! I found it years ago after I saw that it won InStyle's Best of Beauty Award (and it has won every year since, if I remember correctly). I had always purchased the Nutritive line, but then found the Reflection line for color-treated hair (once you start coloring, your needs really change). The shampoo is so nourishing, but the masque is ridiculously amazing!!! Makes your hair feel like SILK!!!! If nothing else, splurge for the masque!!

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ...

Urban Decay Shadow Primer

I have the ladies from this site to thank for this little gem!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, LADIES, I OWE YOU FOREVER!! I really had just given up on wearing eye shadow altogether b/c it would all migrate into a shiny little line in my crease in like an hour! Such a waste. But this stuff is no joke!! I have friends absolutely hooked now!! If you have any doubts, check the reviews on Sephora.com. I think they have a record amount of recommendations for this, over 1400 at last count!! Only caution, be sure to put this on before foundation (forgot a few times since this was still new to me) b/c if you put it on after it will cake up where it meets the foundation. If you do put it on first, however, no problems whatsoever!! Absolutely WICKED product!! I am now a total eye shadow whore!! Can't get enough!

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips...

Used dryer sheets take deodorant stains off of shirts w/ ease - I keep them everywhere. And they're free & you're recycling (kind of)! Also, I keep a magnifying mirror & tweezers in the car for long lights or when I have to wait in the car. The natural light shows much more than any lightbulb - kind of shocking sometimes! Clean & Clear blotting papers rock also! They remove the oil, but leave EVERYTHING else alone - weird material, but it works wonders!!

How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine?

About an hour if I'm having a "pretty day", closer to 2 if I'm having a "not-so-pretty day". I put my hair in a micro-fiber towel until I really need to get the product in, before it dries on me. I try not to drink until I'm done b/c who KNOWS what I'll end up looking like! I need to FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS! My hubby knows to tell me that I have MUCH less time than I really do so that I'll be ready on time!

While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is...

Picking a last-minute makeup artist for my wedding when my original girl bailed at the last minute. The new girl was horrendous! White eyeliner & TONS of bronzer - like a reverse-Elvira!! My girlfriends almost went ballistic on her! Did I mention that I'm fair-skinned? The first thing my now-husband thought when I came down the aisle was, "She is pissed about her makeup". That shouldn't be the first thing he thinks!! Not enough time to fix it since we were already running so late. Should have just done it myself!!! Believe me, the second the ceremony was over, I was like, "Hold it! Gotta rub this crap off!" Everyone knew me well enough to know to just let me go & fix myself before any more pics/evidence were taken!

My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is...

I used to get Monica (Courtney Cox) from Friends, then I gained weight and it was more Monica Lewinsky. I didn't understand that a coworker didn't mean Courtney Cox at first... huge, crushing blow to the ego THAT day!! Now I'm just told that I look like someone that everyone knows, "Doesn't she look like blah, blah, blah?" I guess I'm a chameleon!

  • champ3377 says, Living still, I presume? Cash is tight around here, as I'm on an unpaid leave from my teaching position until a plethora of surgeons and neurologists figure out what to do with me (yikes, the pain continues 24/7). Out of self-pity, I bought Ulta's "Blockbuster" kit and then a second one kit, where you have an empty compact and tiny magnets--you simply put in the shades of shadow, blush, gloss you need and go. I was very hesitant. "Discount" products don't generally work, but I'm highly impressed. Most of the shades blend beautifully. Would you like a Christmas gift? I have an extra palette and an extra "Blockbuster" case. My mom taught me that things are only good if shared, and I agree! God Bless, Gigi

  • alyse says, Hey! Oftentimes, I straighten my hair after I do the vinegar rinse, and the balm I use is a smoothing balm from Aveda that smells lemongrass-y. I guess the combination of the balm and the flat iron makes the vinegar smell go away. Do you use Garnier, Herbal Essences, or L'Oreal shampoo/conditioner? Sometimes I condition with one of the three VERY lightly afterwards and that usually eliminates the vinegar halo =) Hope it works!

  • blondiemakeupgal says, Hi Steph! Sorry for the delay in response, but craziness seems to reign in my house and life lately (hell, what am I saying, "lately," it's a normal occurence!). I'm not sure what the state regulations are for Florida for becoming a makeup artist--each state has different regulations on how you can practice. For instance, I don't have my cosmetology license; therefore I can't work in a salon. But I can work on film sets or for personal/bridal clients. As for how I got started, it was just a life change that I was wanting for a while but never had the guts to try when I was younger (go figure). I was more responsible then! I first started with a class through a community college that offered a broad spectrum of makeup artistry. It was taught by a working makeup artist in the film industry who went to one of the bigger schools (Joe Blasco). I was thinking of going on to one of the "big" makeup schools, but she said the thing I really needed was just practice. From there, I applied for student films, friends (bridal work, baby/bridal shower events where we did makeovers), etc. I worked on a low budget feature film as an intern, i.e. for no pay (thankfully my husband has a steady paycheck!). The makeup artist I worked under has then hired me numerous times as her assistant and I've also worked for other people, in addition to working on other productions as the key makeup artist. From time to time, I've taken several classes to add skills--special effects, airbrushing, etc. In terms of classes, I've probably spent about close to $4000, but the thing that is invaluable is working on the sets and working under great makeup artists who will help guide you. Feel free to ask me any questions! I'd love to answer any questions you have. I'm still building my business, but I'm so glad I made the career change! Hope my answer wasn't too long & involved....but it's hard to answer in a few short sentences! :) Plus I love to help others and I love what I do! Thanks for the questions, chica. Look forward to hearing more from you! Michelle

  • desertdoll says, Hi Steph, This line seems to be going through some changes. I don't know if Fresh Scents is even being produced anymore, though you can still find it online (but I wonder how "fresh" it is). Seems like Terri Michelle is the name of the new line. Sometimes you gotta move quick with the smaller lines, sad but true! Hope you have luck! ~A fellow Stef.

  • sweetassgal says, I sleep with a silk pillowcase. I have curly hair and it doesn't disturb my hair or make it staticky. And I have cotton sheets because I love them. But the silk...not satin pillowcase makes a HUGE difference!

  • pyper says, Hey, Steph! I was glad to help. I have some more information for you. The purple boxed item is an "old" item that should have been removed from the shelves when the new package/eye cream was introduced more than a year ago. Burt's Bees' website (www.burtsbees.com) will help you figure out which products are the new ones. I hope you find it. If not, let me know & I will find it for you. Happy shopping!

  • pyper says, Hi, Steph, The Royal Jelly eye creme you purchased doesn't sound right. Mine is not gritty at all, and it came in a yellow & white box. Is it called Radiance Eye Creme? It should be really creamy & smell delicious. If not, you should return it promptly for a refund & find the Radiance Eye Creme. It is not heavy at all. I use it in the morning before my makeup, but I use La Mer eye creme at night. You can find the Radiance Eye Creme at CVS & Ulta; I'm not sure about Sephora. I hope this helps.

  • champ3377 says, Steph, how sweet to hear from you! When we initially heard my mom's diagnosis, I refused to give up. Three weeks ago my husband and I took her to one of PA's first casinos and she kept going even though we were beyond tired. Now she is in the hospital and can no longer walk. It's beyond weird. I've never seen anyone die so fast from cancer and am still stunned at the diagnosis--she had had two mild stomach aches! Generally I would pray for her life; since it is throughout her body, I am asking God for His gentleness in taking her quickly and painlessly. Unfortunately, I want to go with her! That is SO WRONG as I have an amazing husband and family, but she and I are one person in two bodies and have always been. Thank you so very much; I need comfort in a way I never have before. When my dad died of cancer at the age of 56, at least I still had my mom. Life without either parent is a thought I really hate. But friends like you make the road much more easy to bear. Thanks again and love and God bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Thank you--I'll talk to Terry as soon as I can as I believe everyone will benefit from your Murad comments, but if you read Meg's post you'll learn that I am losing my vision and my mom has cancer. Dear God--did I just write that? I know all will be well and I am strong, but it all came about at the same time. God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Yes, society tends to favor those with clear skin, but mine still is prone to cyclical breakouts and I want to cry. Harsh products make it worse. You probably know this, but students and employees with clear complexions actually get better grades and earn more than their peers! How skewed our values are! Sometimes I could scream, as inner beauty is far more meaningful to me (though you are truly lovely outside and I am sincere about that!). Favor, please: May I send the blurb you wrote about Murad to my nephew? Since he handles Murad's marketing, he may be able to use it as a true-life testimonial or something better. Do I have your permission? He's a brilliant young man. BETWEEN US: Terry had bad acne and it's gone now. He started with ProActive and used Murad; now he could walk onto a Calvin Klein ad because he is incredibly handsome in every way and all blemishes are gone. God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, I saw your comment about Murad when I wrote sweetassgal (not stalking you, I promise). You ARE correct about Murad--my nephew is a marketing executive in California, and one of his major accounts is handling Murad. He went into a detailed explanation of how their products are formulated and it sells like crazy! Though they can be pricey, they're worth it. You really DO know how to choose "winning" products.
