I can't live without this product...

I will admit to not having a lot of products in my daily routine. I work with a bunch of boys who never notice any change in my appearance except for two occasions: Halloween, when I walked in in full-on 1940s film noir femme fatale mode (thank you, MAC lipstick in Russian Red!) or the day after I cut my shoulder length hair off to the Twiggy-esque length it is now.

But the one product that is now in my full-on daily routine is Benefit's Benetint, which I bought in the hopes of using as a lip tint. Unfortunately, I eat too much at my desk all day, but as a blush it's absolutely perfect. The punch of pink to my cheeks stays all day and makes me look awake and livelier instead of sallow and overtired. It can be punched up a little with another blush or with bronzer for added color, but just Benetint alone gets me through the normal workday.

I only have two complaints (well, three, if you account for the doesn't-stay-or-moisturize-on-lips -- try putting the Benetint balm over it for softness and added color) -- if you travel with it and try to screw the lid on tightly so it doesn't spill, the inside of the cap can break away from the top of it -- in my desperateness, I tried to glue it back together, then ultimately called Benefit's customer service and got a new brush sent in the mail. Hooray! And then... it was knocked off of the bathroom counter. But not by me. Unfortunately, it shattered. So both the cap and the bottle are easily breakable.

But we went straight away to the Benefit counter and bought a brand new one -- it's that worth it to me. And now I keep it where it can't be knocked over.

I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product...

Philosophy's Purity

This is a great facewash and a shower staple for us -- it's gentle enough to use in the shower, which I tend to do while my conditioner is getting absorbed in my hair. (I also use the Philosophy 3-in-1 shower gel at that time -- love it!)

I originally bought the Philosophy acne skincare set, but the cleanser that was included (On A Clear Day) was way too drying and, since I hadn't discovered Product #3 yet, I had dry patches on my cheekbones. Instead I ordered Purity and used it every day, morning and night, along with everything else in the acne kit.

How highly do we think of Purity in my household (my mother and myself)? We've probably gone through three or four of the 16 ouncers in the past couple of years, and just bought the industrial-size one (this thing could kill somebody, it's so big!) off of QVC for the sole purpose of keeping in the shower.

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ...

Aveeno Moisturizer -- Positively Radiant with SPF 15

I admit, I used to not wear sunscreen. As a little girl, I used to tan easily just by virtue of always playing outside, and I got cocky. "I don't burn," I said.

And then I grew up, and I started staying inside more during the summers, and then I spent my university years in Oregon (while still staying inside more during the summers). And now I burn.

I knew I should try to wear sunscreen more, particularly on my face, and I tried one that only seemed to clog up my pores. Ugh. As a girl who was very slow on the skin care train (and regrets it now, believe me), the last thing I needed was to add in more pimples.

But then, this May, I received a free bottle of Aveeno's Positively moisturizer with SPF 15 as swag from a university fashion show I participated in, and I've been using it every day ever since. It has the slightest shimmer to it to help even out skintone, and (thank goodness) it doesn't clog my pores!

While I received this for free, I will definitely purchase it in the future once this one runs out.

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips...

Drink water instead of soda! Wash your face twice a day and wear sunscreen!

How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine?

Counting hair? I'd say half an hour now that I've chopped all my hair off.

While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is...

Sweet Georgia Brown powder blue lipstick. I have nothing more to add to that. Also, I just went digging around and found some black AND royal blue lipstick. And I wasn't a goth.

My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is...

Helena Bonham Carter (in historical mode, not Fight Club mode), Leelee Sobieski. Ingrid Bergman (now THAT's a compliment!). Nelly Furtado ("I'm Like a Bird" Nelly, not "Promiscuous" Nelly).
