I can't live without this product...

Anything Aveda is number one with me - the natural properties, the smell, the no-build-up factor. The Brilliant line is still my number one for scent, but this new Smooth Infusion line has made my thick and frizzy hair more manageable than it's ever been. I almost don't even need my flat iron -at least as close as I've ever been to not needing it. I think the most important product in this kit is the Style-Prep Smoother - used before blow drying - absolutely incredible how this calms the frizz. Followed up with the Light Elements Smoothing Fluid after blow drying totally abolishes the frizz and holds the style the whole day.
I like "Aveda Smooth Infusion Kit" (Others who like it too...lilykane pamelairene txtipster )

I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product...

Clarisonic

I've been using this 6 months now, and it's definitely my essential first step. Gets the skin perfectly clean and primed for products. I use it at night only, and just splash my face with water and apply toner in the morning (Desertdoll gets credit for that tip!). A couple nights a week I take a break from it and instead use Suki Exfoliating scrub or a mask.

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ...

Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum, Lancome Primordiale Skin Recharge, and Kiehls Tea Tree Toner

These three products used in concert have completely remade my skin. I receive compliments often, even when I'm not wearing my Dior Airflash foundation (which is also worthy of being in my top three!). The Lancome has all but gotten rid of my 33-year-old fine lines, the Caudalie has made even my smoker's face glow, and the Kiehls toner keeps me completely blemish free now. I can't pick just one of these - they are all needed in my aresenal! I slowly added each into my routine, one at a time, and learned they each have their own benefits that together create perfection...at least as close as I'm gonna get!

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips...

One thing mom taught me was to never forget about separating and applying mascara to the hard-to-reach and easy-to-overlook outside few lashes-really makes the eyes pop. 2. Invest in a good blowdryer and flat iron if you have freakishly thick and frizzy hair like me. It now takes only 5 minutes to dry my hair and frizzies are gone with one swipe of the flat iron - well, ok there's a bit of product involved too. 3. Wait to stock up on products until there's a gift with purchase promo. I have never bought a tube of mascara cuz that's always included. 4. When trying a new product, always ask for samples first and only change one thing at a time to find out what's really working or not. That is much easier said than done with this site, though! 5. Don't "over-scent" yourself, ie, a different smelling body lotion, deodorant, hairspray, perfume. A woman should only smell like one main scent at a time. I actually got that advice from a man, and have always remembered it and tried to stick by it-but that also is sooo much easier said than done. At least find complimentary scents for your lotion and perfume. With companies like Jo Malone, it's very easy to do. I AM CREATING A NEW CATEGORY: MY TOP 5 MM FINDS THAT I WILL NEVER BE W/O AGAIN!! 1. SUKI LEMONGRASS EXFOLIATING CLEANSER 2. URBAN DECAY EYESHADOW PRIMER POTION 3. JUST A DROP 98% ODOR FREE BATHROOM SPRAY 4. MID NIGHT SLEEP AID 5. TEA TREE OIL (THESE ARE ALL LIFE-CHANGING! THANK YOU MEG'S MAKEUP LADIES!!)

How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine?

Shower to the door used to be 2 hours. I have it down to 1 1/2 with my recent purchases of the all-time best blowdryer and flat iron, though (by far the best $400 I've ever spent and not a second of regret!). That leaves me an extra 1/2 hour for the rest of the wine bottle =^). Running up to the store - only as long as it takes to brush my teeth and put a headband and pony-tail holder in my hair - I will even go in my PJs, as long as I can wear a long coat and boots...Michigan winters have their benefits!

While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is...

Miscommunication with the hair stylist at 12 years old as to what a "wedge" was. I was expecting the Dorothy Hamill bowl cut (c'mon I was 12 and under mom's influence!) and got the boot camp cut. Have been paranoid of hair dropping to the floor in a salon ever since. Even when I'm 80, my hair will be no shorter than my shoulders.

My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is...

Catherine Zeta-Jones, when she was the evil character in that old super-hero movie...but I think the BF was just trying to get a little nookie...ok, hilarious-just went to myheritage.com based on member rdlspear's profile to see who I looked like...Jessica Simpson came up #1 - no way!! Also said Vanessa Marcil which I would love to agree with!

  • champ3377 says, So good to hear from you again; it was exciting to think that you were a fellow teacher (someone who does understand that we don't earn obscene salaries for doing nothing!). My vision vascillates from obscure to clear, and that's troubling; light bothers my eyes, and I need to wear sunglasses in many stores.depending on the lighting. My eye surgeon said that people heal at different rates and I am doing so slowly. He would also like to do further surgery on my retinas, but he has to wait another month. I don't want to miss more school, as the administration and faculty were incredibly kind and supportive last year. Thank God, my heart is fine--but I could strangle my doctor for scaring me half to death. At least I know I'm in good shape. There's nothing about my heart they don't know now after all of the testing. As for classes, I'll have "Business Law" (an honors course for juniors and seniors), "Introduction to Business" (sophomores), and "IC3--Internet and Computer Core Certification," which is mandatory for ALL freshmen. I don't think I need to tell you what it's like to put ninth-grade students in front of computers. I love this job more than any I have had, but I think my greatest fear is not being able to see the computer screens when they have questions and problems. Moreover, I like to keep things fun and spontaneous, so that my students don't realize they're learning (example: I offer Ho-Ho's and Hostess treats to students who recall material from the previous day and other ridiculous things, but it works for most of them). BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME--I'M ANXIOUS TO HEAR WHAT YOU TEACH! Thanks again for your support; it means a great deal. God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, YES--you wrote! I missed you! I can be obtuse. To what are you returning? I'm off for the summer, but it's been a little rough. I had cataract surgery as I was told I was going completely blind--that is beyond weird, especially for someone at my age. An eye surgeon said I would become permanently blind even when he removed them, and thank God I'm not. My eyes, however, aren't "working together" yet. Then my internist "forgot" to read the EKG I had before surgery. He phoned and said, "You EKG has abnormalities--you're either fine or have blocked arteries and need massive surgery." I tried to put up a brave front for my husband and family, but I was relatively non-functional. I'm a little afraid of preparing for the fall, as I have three major subjects to teach and it's still hard to see. But I'm counting my blessings--AND YOU ARE ONE, MY DEAR! God Bless, Gigi

  • sweetassgal says, I am SO SO tickled that you read my blogs and that you enjoyed them. I write them but don't always get much feedback so its good to know what people think. Thank you...I love hearing what people think. I'll try and find some pictures of Roxy that are digital (I'm SO old school with my pictures). She's black and white and SO cute. As are my kids. They are THE BEST and I love them at this age. Teenagers are so interesting and fun. Mine don't have attitudes so they're just these really funny, fascinating people. I have to admit...they aren't mine, they're my stepkids. But I LOVE them SO much and never really think of them as anything but my own since I've known them since they were 8 and 9. My hubby is a very devoted father (one of the reasons I fell in love with him) and we have them full time. They have a great mom but she lives in another city and see's them when she can. So I'm a full time Mommie and I LOVE it. Never a dull moment with my kids around!

  • sweetassgal says, One more thing...HOW cute is Vinnie! What a dolly. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dogs and would have about 10 if my hubby (and common decency) would allow it. I have two...Harley (my baby) and Roxy (my sweet girl). They are amazing. Dogs have such an unfailing sense of love and devotion. No matter how bad I feel on a bad day...when my Harley boy starts dancing and prancing as I walk through the door I always smile and instantly feel better. They are truly god's special creatures.

  • sweetassgal says, I'm so glad you liked my submission...writing for me is very personal because I am completely open and honest (which opens me up for LOTS of criticism) but I think its necessary to reach people on a real level. I read your submission too (along with LOTS of other great reviews) and was SO amazed at all of the wonderful talent. I believe so much in uplifting other women and encouraging EVERYONE to follow their dreams so it was wonderful to see all of the great things people had to say. I am really, really excited to write the first column and to NOT let anyone down! Thanks for the tea tree advice...I'll check it out. I know that's a very renowned brand so its worth sample hunting for! And I do LOVES MYSELF some samples! I look forward to getting to know you and the other gorgeous ladies on here better! • sweetassgal says, Just wanted to let you know I laughed SO hard when I read your no undies comment! Though I'm sorry about the accidents, I'm not sorry to hear that I'm not the only one who gets caught pantiless! I HATE thongs or g-strings and am perfectly comfortable being "free"...however its not always a good idea for me. I have a medical condition that can cause me to pass out. I did once, in the middle of a mall, fell down an incline, my skirt came up and I was passed out on the floor with NO chonies on. Thank god I had been "maintiaining" my second hairdo otherwise it could have been DOUBLY embarassing. Thank god I was quickly covered up but I'm sure I gave a few a show! Yikes!

  • champ3377 says, Dear Mel9, I'm glad you didn't mind the job advice, but my sister can't return to the middle school for at least another year and she's not happy. I wanted to spare you from enduring what she has and knowing the disappointment she feels. It's generally really hard to rattle my easy-going sibling. My mom made the difficult decision to put little Moosie to sleep late this morning. I made some calls, but I simply couldn't accompany my husband to the vet's--she loved to ride in the car and I was not going to join her this time. He went with my brother-in-law. Evidently she suffered some mini-strokes overnight and was no longer very lucid, and no one wanted to prolong her suffering. We're all in pain, but I wish I could take my mom's angst from her more than anything. I can't believe Dean Koontz wrote that amazing quote: I'm going to print or write it in calligraphy and frame it. It's like Garth Brooks' song "The Dance." Yes, parting hurts, but why miss the joy? When my husband and I lost our amazing, precious Cocker Gabriel in February, he was unreachable, conducting a day-long honors band concert. I had pneumonia and woke up around 1:00 p.m. Gabe usually would sleep next to me and it was odd that he wasn't there. I got up and saw him wrapped around our bedroom door, looking like a disjointed or broken doll. I said, "Hey, you little silly man, what are you doing now?" And then I realized in horror that he was dying, not playing. I went to phone for help, and he followed me into the hall. He was walking very strangely and fell with a giant thud. I had to wait over an hour for my brother-in-law to take him to the vet's, but I can't believe Gabe still tried to be with me as he always did. I'll spare you the graphic details, but he lost control of all bodily functions. Despite the huge mess, I lay on the floor and told him again and again how much we love him, asked him to wait for us in Heaven, etc. He was obviously in pain, but I heard the wonderful "thump, thump, thump" of his tail while I spoke. And his eyes pierced my soul. Please don't think I'm nuts, but I somehow KNEW that he knew we will be together again. So it is with Moosie. I've been through this many times in my life, but it never gets any easier. Thanks SO much for your kind, sincere concern. It's greatly appreciated. God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Dear Mel9, You are a sweetheart--thank you, thank you, thank you! My heart is pounding out of excitement already (also a bit out of fear as my mom may have to put her wonderful little dog down today). I don't deserve this, but I'm accepting it nonetheless. I also don't understand how you "get" science--I was no dummy in school (was graduated Summa Cum Laude), but it was always over my head. Your Master's? Wow--you're someone to reckon with! (Or, properly written, "someone with whom to reckon"). Mind a bit of job advice? My husband and sister Ruthie are also teachers. Both were at the same middle school during the last several years and loved it. Ruthie won Pennsylvania's "Teacher Excellence Award" two years ago after being nominated for an unprecedented five consecutive years (Ruthie calls herself the "Susan Lucci" of "Teacher Excellence" and that makes me howl). Anyway, she was told at the end of the 2007 school year that she would be teamed with another English instructor, a woman known as "Mary Ann the Hun." This nutcase could not be more cruel or difficult for students and faculty, and so Ruthie opted for another position at the high school to get away from her. This high school was once the "gold standard," but times have changed everywhere. She regrets it--big time! The administration is great and my sibling is an inspiring riot (I've watched her in the classroom many times), but a lot of the kids are jaded and have a "what's-in-it-for-me?" or "you-can't-make-me-read-a-book" attitude. The parents back up their no-work ethic. Avoid, avoid. If you are able, stay with the younger, more malleable minds still willing to learn and have fun. God Bless and thanks again, Gigi

  • katehrm777 says, Hi Mel! I wanted to write and thank you so much for your kind comments on the "crest whitestrips/new tester" post about me! As I am sure you have figured out (if you are reading this you have gone to megsmakeup and saw the results) but I get to have my own column about hair. I guess having awful, thick, curly hair sometimes has its benefits. Anyways, I am so happy to hear you are loving the airflash (it is pretty amazing right?)...I still am obsessed with it but tried the carmindy foundation Rachel reviewed and I really like it too (and at $12 is a bit easier to stomach). I hope your summer is going fabulous so far, mine has been going crazy! I just got a job and am moving the Newport Beach on Thursday so its been pretty hectic (although I must admit I'm living at home with my parents who are also teachers and thus have the summers to make me food and help me pack which has made things much easier). So anyways thanks again and I hope to hear from you soon...hopefully with new fun makeup stories (I am very interested in this tea tree toner you speak of...hmmmmmmmm)
