I can't live without this product...

The whole Bare Escentuals line, awesome! Once I tried it, I knew I could never go back! Thick, pasty bases, be gone! I am not missing your line of demarcation, the very fact that you suffocated my skin, and was a virtual canvas that my kids could actually fingerpaint on without having to have any paint! I get none of that with Bare Escentuals! My skin can breathe! I have lived with acne all of my life and this still gives coverage! Even on days I don't feel like opening that make-up drawer, (ladies we've all had them), I can just take a bit of the bisque and spot it on my blemishes, acne scars and redness and it covers effortlessly!
I like "Bare Escentuals Bisque" (Others who like it too...champ3377 )

I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product...

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Conditioner

You like Sebastian Laminates? This is every bit as good and a whole lot cheaper! You can tell the difference the very first time you use it!

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ...

Burt's Bee's Pomegranate lip Balm

Any of the Burt's products are awesome! The pomegranate lip balm feels so good and it also gives just a hint of a rose tint. It just enhances your natural lip color. It makes your lips feel like satin! My lips can't leave home without it! And they can't go to bed without it!

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips...

I have really coarse hair. After washing, towel dry for a minute or two first, then put in conditioner and let sit for about 3-6 min. Towel drying before hand totally makes a difference! If your hair is soaking wet, it is not able to absorb as much of the conditioner as it needs to.

How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine?

every day natural- 20 min. Glam- 45min. to an hour, but would enjoy a wine break half way through!

While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is...

My mother cut my bangs way above my eyebrows when I was just in the 5th grade! Bangs 2/3 of the way up my forehead! Mortifying indeed! Early highschool, filled in my already thick as a caterpillar brows with brow filler! (this is before I discovered tweezers!) Lookin' back now, I realize I looked like Groucho Marx!

My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is...

I was the new student overseas in junior high and everyone was saying "Brooke Shield look-a-like". I tend to think that Groucho Marx is more on the mark! Pardon my pun, heehee.

  • champ3377 says, Where to start? Thanks for your "brutal honesty." You see, there is no women's faculty lounge near my room and I have to share the restroom with the female students. I don't want to hear that "Mrs. D. stinks" when I walk down the hall! Proactive worked WONDERS on my nephews. All three had beautiful skin until their senior years in high school; my sister had the routine down by the time the youngest one, Sammy, started breaking out, and they are flawless now. Most of all, thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers. Gee, would someone please turn back the clock? John Mayer's "Stop This Train" is playing and I'm singing along. Just last week, I thought I had some minor issues when it came to optometry and my mom had a bad reaction from fresh corn on the cob. This is very, very hard, and I know the Lord is always with me, but there are times that I believe He understands our human weakness and gives us people on whom we can lean--and I'm leaning on you, if you don't mind, until my faith and strength "kick back in." This was a double-shock! My mom and I can speak as I can to no one else (long story about Ron and I don't have children yet, but she actually asked me last year, "Gigi, why didn't you just get knocked up when you were engaged?" This, from my senior citizen Catholic mother! We howled!). She and I are like the same person in two bodies, in a different way than it is with my husband (although I could not possibly love him more or be treated better). Obviously, she's a woman, the one to "break" all the news in life to me ("birds and bees," etc.). And she has never dissed my opinions. She listens intently and I am enormously blessed and encouraged by her in a way I simply cannot describe. I lost my father when I was in college and am still not dealing well with that. This will give you additional insight into my twisted personality: When she and my dad told me there was no Santa (probably second grade), I cried like crazy. My mom said, "Honey, don't worry, you're still going to get presents." I couldn't believe what I heard, as she didn't understand. I distinctly recall moaning, "No! You and Daddy have had to buy TWO sets of presents all these years and pretend one set was from Santa. I'm so sorry I did that to you!" Told you I'm twisted. You are very dear for praying, and I'm counting on it. God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Thanks for putting up with my rambling! Water has worked very well for me. My school is not air conditioned and it's all windows. Teaching is like being under a microsope. My hair and clothes get pasted to me (really attractive). So I filled the small refrigerator in my room with twelve bottles and drink while I teach (I don't waste money--just refill them from our Brita pitcher). I have to ask you: If you use Omega vitamins, do you smell like fish? You are one smart woman, as that's been shown to be effective for many reasons! Another suggestion: Bare Escentuals offers an overnight revitalizing powder (it's on my profile). I was highly skeptical, but I still wear makeup to bed to look good for my husband after twenty years! It DOES live up to its promises and gets rave reviews from most women. Pores are refined, skin is more taught, and there is an increase in luminosity. It comes in a handy container with a sponge attached. When I apply it, my skin is lovely. When I awake and wash it off, I DO see improvements. How cool is that--a product that works like a cosmetic and renewal/repair all at one time? God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Your photo is so cute that I smile every time I look at it! Total Effects does help with luminous skin. I learned to study ingredients when I worked at Pitt's School of Medicine and modeled, and it contains vitamins (C, derivatives of B, etc.). Vitamin C actually synthesizes the production of collagen, which revitalizes, smooths, and helps you glow. It has glycerin, among many other things, and it tends to act as subtle "gloss" for your complexion. AHA also performs beautifully, as it removes dead skin and new, fresh cells are exposed (Avon sells a head-spinning collection of these products). Some tricks? Drink water, as in "a lot." It plumps skin cells. Limit the caffeine you drink. Take your vitamins orally as well; as they say "you are what you eat." I have a tendency to have nosebleeds. When that happens, Vitamin C is the only thing that truly stops them. It's hard to overdo Vitamin C, as any extra is excreted naturally. When I want to be especially alluring (yeah, right, like that happens), I use a VERY subtle powder containing mica and light-reflecting ingredients. Brush lightly and gently over your face and no one will know why you are drop-dead gorgeous. God Bless, Gigi (Always good to hear from you!)

  • champ3377 says, I love your attitude! My older sister and her husband and three grown sons are members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts. If someone has a birthday, they all go to a Stones or Pearl Jam concert, no matter the cost for five good tickets, even though they're not wealthy. Indeed--the family that "plays together stays together." Somehow I still feel like I'm between the ages of sixteen and twenty-three, but my body is betraying me. You are TOO cute! God Bless, Gigi

  • champ3377 says, Loved your bike story. We're alike; I love to "play" and my husband is always afraid that I'll hurt myself. I don't believe I'll ever "grow up," but I don't want to lose that aspect of my personality. I'm just thrilled you weren't hurt. God Bless, Gigi the Relieved

  • steph222 says, Hey girl! Thanks for the compliment! I needed that! That stinks about the Murad. ProActiv was way too rough on my skin - it got super-red and irritated. I've really just figured out that my acne has mostly to do with the fact that my skin cells, in general, don't turn over like they're supposed to. Probably why the Murad works so well for me, those acids are like a sandblaster! Have you tried the Juice Beauty scrub that others have recommended on this site that they say takes care of EVERY blemish in no time! I'm curious about that too, even though the Murad works so well for me - so bad! :) Never satisfied! Yeah, when I use the Phyto it's like someone else's hair is on my head! My dad is 100% Portuguese & I got his thick, coarse hair (but mom's pale Irish skin). I have tried others that will get the curl out, but only Phyto turns it into silk - no other word but silk! Kerastase works wonders as far as shamp/cond too if you're in the market for them, although your hair looks PHENOMENAL in your pics! Love the body that you get!! My hair would look like that for 3 mins then fall like a souffle! :) W/ regards to the racing, that must have been a blast! Even just beating the guys at poker & pool are a thrill, so being able to beat any guy at racing must be such a rush! I have yet to try the 2-wheeled variety of racing! Bad balance + high speeds + heavy bike = traction (and not the good kind)! :)

  • steph222 says, Hey girl! Love your pics & admire your spirit! It's hard to be a "girly" girl w/ makeup & then a tomboy w/ hobbies and I'm glad there are others out there. My friends think I'm some sort of anomaly b/c I'll do the most boyish activities and then go refresh my lipgloss :) I saw your comments on breakouts and I just have to share my love of Murad. I tried the kit about a year ago & ran out right before a vacation, so I didn't want to order in case it arrived while we were gone. The change in my skin was immediate! I broke out like none other! I was so desperate that I drove 45 mins to pick up the kit the day that we got back (jetlagged and all), instead of waiting for delivery. Best decision ever! My skin is like a baby's butt now & the zits are all going bye-bye w/o any new ones setting up camp. I completely understand the girl in the Clearasil commercial wanting to rub her face on everyone b/c I feel the same! :) I actually need to go change my fave products right now to reflect Murad as my most needed b/c, I'll be honest, if I'm breaking out, no amount of makeup really makes me feel that pretty... hope it helps! Rock on!

  • champ3377 says, One of the commercials I have most hated in my life was one for an antiperspirant which said, "Never let them see you sweat." Thanks for admitting that you sweat--I do horribly and don't know why (no medical basis, just started a few years ago). I'm sorry, but I laughed at the carrot references. I never knew that could happen . . .

  • champ3377 says, Wow, can I relate to your experience (how many shampoos DOES it take to wash our color?) That was a riot! Many years ago, a highly respected stylist suggested that I strip my natural auburn hair of its tone and add color to make it even more glossy (he had to be drunk and I must have been nuts to listen--it was full, thick, and completely undamaged. I did as he suggested. I looked like Debbie Harry from Blondie. My nephews were very young at the time and laughed and said, "Hey, Aunt Gigi, you lost your hair--you're funny!" I went to another salon, where they tried to restore my original shade. The problem was that the bases of the products used were blue and yellow--thus, I emerged green. After cutting nearly all of it off, a hint remained. I grew really tired of my students asking, "Miss Sommers, do you know that your hair is green?" One day I moved everything from my desk, sat on it, and belted out Kermit's "It's Not Easy Being Green" to them!

  • champ3377 says, O, lovely one--you're more than welcome. I was sincere. I'm not sure if you know I used to be a business teacher at a college in Pittsburgh and several public high schools. Now I'm employed at Bishop Canevin and have taught Business English. That has helped me recognize talent and I laughed again at your "worst procrastination known to man" comment. You have SO much to offer--start writing, please! We really do need you and your passion for the aesthetic things in life. And you're NICE! God Bless, Gigi the Nag

  • champ3377 says, "Virgin brows here I come!" has me laughing aloud. You are so funny! Oh, I hope this kit doesn't disappoint you as you ARE the brow guru and I'm aware the UD has an amazing version, but I like to keep several pairs of kits around--in my car's glove compartment, purse, desk at school, vanity, etc. This I can afford for $4.00 and I'm happy! I have to ration my money and now I'm saving the "big bucks" for Bare Escentuals' products (love the foundation, eyeshadows, and blush as well and left a review on your profile, along with a comment about Burt's Bees wonderful lip balm). I lost a few vanity pounds and I'm afraid my neck looks like a turkey; I'm trying to decide where to drop anything extra I have to prevent wrinkles and keep skin taut. My mom's in her 80's and is completely wrinkle-free--people think she's 60. I'm not aging gracefully. It was wonderful to hear from you--thanks and God Bless, Gigi (Write again, please)

  • sweetassgal says, I loved the honesty and humor of your "lurkers" response. We all have issues honey, and we all have insecurities...but as we get older we learn that it isn't really as bad as we thought and we learn to face things head on and with pride. It actually pains me to hear that such a beautiful woman as yourself still feels the sting of looking "different" than everyone else. You are absolutely gorgeous and you have nothing to be ashamed of. I grew up with a cousin that was adopted from Korea. She was a few years older than me and I always looked up to her thinking she was THE MOST beautiful thing in the world. I had stringy, tangly, scraggly blonde hair and pasty skin. She had BEAUTIFUL shiny, thick, stick straight black hair and luminous white skin. I sometimes think she felt a little "different" too but for the life of me I could never understand it because I absolutely idolized her. Be proud of your beauty and of your wonderfully combined races...its a thing of rare beauty. I CAN however, completely relate to many other things you said...#1 being running from people in stores. Not so much people I know now...but those I would run into from High School or my home town. I've changed a lot since then and in a small town they LOVE to see the perky blonde cheerleader grow up and gain a few pounds. I can't understand it, because I was always very happy and liked everyone, but nonetheless there are some people who will simply chose NOT to like you because you are happy and blonde. But I have a great husband now, and a wonderful family and I can't dwell on their negativity (but I CAN avoid it to save myself the anguish!). We love to camp too...we have quads and a toy hauler we camp in. We don't competition race but we ride like crazy when we go on trips. It's SO much fun. I am also a picker (I TRY to stop but I swear its like a drug...is there ANY rush better than the feeling you get when that CRAP comes out of your face!) and I'm a sucky phone friend too. I tend to drift off in the middle of the conversation and pretend to listen. In person...I'm a chatterbox. Guess I just feel disconnected over the phone. So all in all honey...I think you are MUCH more normal than you could possibly realize. We are ALL out there, short or tall, thin or voluptuous, straight or curly, no matter what color...were all women. I know I'm not going to change how you feel about yourself in one post but I hope you know that its okay to be different...in fact I RELISH IT! I've found that as I get older, pudgier, earn some wrinkles and discover new things about myself...its the things about me that are different that set me apart, that's what keeps me interesting! Something tells me you feel the same way too. GLAM ON sister!!!

  • mel9 says, You're welcome! I've never tried an extractor myself, but if it has good instructions - it's probably do-able! Bummer that Sephora was out of them - I did see a kit in my Bliss catalog that had one along with their "change your spots" cream that's supposed to be good for $49 - or just the extractor for $22. you could check that out at blissworld.com. I've heard great things about the juice peel and have that on my list to buy when all the peels I got during that 3 months run out! so, i still say all these suggestions are great for when the areas finally clear, but to get it clear you've got to extract them if they're that deep (like mine). so, let us know what worked cuz something will eventually! oh, and I love cooking and eating too - one of my greatest pleasures in life is going to cooking classes where we just watch them do all the hard work and prep and then get to chow down! Best of luck ~ Mel

  • sharond says, Don't laugh when I tell you what my doctor suggested for those bumps on the chin. Monostat 7. A lot of the time is a yeast infection as apparently we have yeast in our mouth and we "dribble" at night. Of course I would never admit that. I took his advice and yep, it worked. I also mentioned it to a couple of other people and they tried it with good results. You can use straight tree tea oil, but can dry out the skin pretty bad. For getting red of blackheads, I found that using a black head popper from Revlon does a good job and then I exfolliate with a product that has diamond ships in it. I happen to use ANEW CLINICAL Advanced Dermabrasion System and find it works very well. I don't use the other Renew line. Good luck, let me know how it works.

  • katehrm777 says, Hi Jnsreine! I read your post about having problems with your skin. I don't know if this will help (who knows what works on whose skin and why?!?) but when I first went on birth control I started breaking out really bad, i switched to a different brand and it got better but I would still break out sometimes and sometimes I wouldn't and I had no idea why because I couldnt figure out any sort of pattern. Anyways I went to talk to my gynocologist about it because I was so upset and she told me that if you don't take your birth control at the EXACT same time everyday that it can cause acne. Something to do with regulating the hormones and if you mess up the hormones start to get out of whack and can cause breakouts. It's not the case for everyone, but if you are on birth control you could try doing that, as when I take my bc at the exact same time now I never break out. Anyways I hope that this turns out to be your miracle cure like it was for me! If not, my roommate who has struggled with pretty bad acne and has tried proactive, murad etc started using Ren products (you can get them at sephora) and her skin has cleared up enormously and she swears by them now. Good luck and let me know how it turns out!
