Sweetassgal here thinking today about epiphanies. You know what I mean... those bright little "aha" moments when you realize something quite profound or even terribly minuscule has shifted in our life and no matter how small or large it may be the effects are palpable. I had one such epiphany this past week as I was inching my way along I-80 towards work in rush hour traffic. Thanks to the close proximity of my past two jobs I have managed to avoid the traffic snarl of the freeway for about 8 years now. Just a few weeks in to my new job I remembered why I quit working in the downtown area in the first place. I HATE the way people drive in traffic.
There are your typical a-hole-ish offenders of course. The single car passengers who zip by in the carpool lane, the person who insists upon weaving in and out of lanes only to end up right alongside you, and the Neanderthal that screams at traffic as if it's magically going to divide the road like the Red Sea. These guys I can somewhat take because traffic Karma always catches up to them. But there is ONE driver that just sends me over the edge due to their complete lack of urgency and inattentiveness at a time when both should be at their peak. These are the people who insist upon leaving umpteen car lengths between them and the car ahead so we can actually back traffic up all the way to Reno, the ones who use the time to eat their breakfast and catch up on their texting or even WORSE... the person that drives for miles with their turn signal on never letting you know for sure if they are going to jump ahead of you at the last second or just gradually hypnotize you with that little yellow blink, blink, blink. DON'T they SEE that obnoxious light flashing and beeping at them on their dashboard? Insert epiphany here... NO... they don't.
Meg here! My ex-husband was away a bunch and our marriage fell apart. My sister (who you know as Babylove) has a husband in the military and he was in Iraq the whole first year of their marriage. I'm apparently a lot needier then she is. My husband was just always out of town, hers was always being fired at-yet they kept it together. I don't know how they did it but thousands of women do. Thousands of women are left for a year at a time, alone, while their husbands are gone. They never know if they are coming back.
It's not like they are being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to make this sacrifice. The salaries are not great, the sacrifice is. America has been at war now for a long time and even though Lindsay Lohan is front news, these solider's and their families barely make ink at all.
I can't imagine living on a base. I can't imagine having my significant other away for months on end. I'm not that deep. I get stressed out in traffic. If everytime the doorbell rang I was afraid of bad news I would be in constant anxiety. Now when it rings and I think it's the U.S. Census -I break into a sweat.
I'm one person. What can I do for these women? Well, it turns out that one is a pretty powerful number and the whole "build it and they will come" theory is true. It also helps if One (yes, I am speaking about myself in third person) has MANY generous and amazing friends. It helps if One is also annoying on the telephone and not above begging for help.
We're all pulling together to let the ladies of base Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO know that we appreciate them and we want them to feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside.
The military women are being treated to an event for 1,000 of them. There are 1,000 A-level Hollywood style giftbags being printed up and being filled with full-size products from the patriotic companies from above.
May 19th, we are joining a gown swap and then treating these women to a night of pampering, "beautytini's" makeup tips and tricks and each 1,000 giftbag is worth over $125! Say can you see!!
Flowers are nice but short lived... candy? Great but no one I know really want to admit they eat it anymore, and forget about those "As Seen On TV" items unless you want to be on the receiving end of her patented eye-roll! Goddess Granny could go on for a while about what might be a nice gift for Mom next week but if y'all are like me, you're saying, "I have a whole week, I'll come up with SOMETHING!" Do it one better than that for her and check out my personal list of things I'd LOVE to be gifted with on this special day or at anytime, brownie points guaranteed and she'll be delighted to know you think of her in a such cool and stylish way!

Meg here! The site has grown so much that I hope you'll understand when I say I cannot provide free shipping for make-up points any longer! It had been so expensive (trust me-you'd faint-I almost did.) The last two mailings have cost more then my rent!
We're small but rather then get rid of the points system all together we will make it up to you whether you want your package or not. It will get everyone there items much quicker as well.
How does it work? We are just doing this with flate rates and while your product is all free this just helps us pay for the envelopes and ship rates. VERY IMPORTANT!! Once you want to cash in your points you will be brought to a Paypal where you can pay the shipping. If you choose to not pay the points will be lost. There is no way for us to go back and get them back for you. Please do not go to cash out unless you are prepared to pay shipping or else (the system does it) the points will be lost.
"It just don't come no better then a Bear"-Lyle Lovett
Hey Bear, I hope you're not mad at me. I hope we can forget the whole "putting you to sleep." Because I feel really awful and I know, I know it's not about me. I put you to sleep we both know that's a nice way of saying I ended your life, I am really torn up about it but I hope you would do the same for me. I mean it. When I can't get up anymore and I can't really see and dementia kicks in and I'm howling at night. Do it for me. Please.
I went to your place in Monetcito. When your dad and I got divorced it made sense for you to go with him. Quite frankly, he is rich. I am not. Spending your golden years next to Oprah seemed a lot better then spending them with me and a roomie with no yard.
I had you since I was 19 years old. People are mean and some asshole put you in a dumpster to be incinerated. I walked by the dumpster in Miami and heard you crying out. I wanted to walk by the dumpster but was afraid that you were a baby. I walked to the dumpster, took a deep breathe, and then there was a perfect puppy. I am not ready to be a human mom. I wasn't really ready to be a four week old dog mom. Sometimes we rise to the challenge.
We lived together for 14 years. You went with Jason (the rich one) for the last two. You brought love loyalty and excitement to my life. Everytime I walked in the door you made me feel like a Beatle.
Please do not buy a dog. Please don't-there are so many great dogs waiting and hoping for a home. I got my friend Bear out of a dumpster! She knew I rescued her and she spent every day making me feel appreciated for saving her life-THEY KNOW! Tonight I go to sleep and I miss my very good friend. She has been there for me through thick and thin and I know we'll see each other again. Seeing my ex-husband wasn't even strange. We were her parents and he held her with me and cried. He cried because he is good and his heart is pure and whatever relationship bullshit we created=he put it away for Bear.
Meg here! We always show our love to blogs that are clever, inventive and get it right! Beautyundercover.com has been winning ladies hearts with their witty and informative articles and fantastic give-aways! They have 5 great "swag alerts" coming up tomorrow so be sure to get yourself over there to win.
Today though, they have a very fun article up. "Can you guess her age?" I couldn't stomach being the subject because I'd have a heart attack if someone guessed under my picture "she's 54!" Anyhow, big props to their brave subject in willing to be the candidate people are guessing on! She looks amazing, if I looked like her I would play too!
Meg here! I am really thankful that Sharond sent this brilliant information that every woman that loves her fashion should know! I am unfortunately, pretty run down from my travels and nine loads of laundry so this piece came in the knock of time! Thanks Sharond! I learned a lot.
In the past I wrote an article about haute couture designers and which design houses are allowed to use the haute couture attached to their name. In this article I would like to explain what goes into creating a couture collection. I would like to emphasize that I am writing about couture designers only. I have not done enough research on other designers to know their methods and when their showings occur.
Twice a year, January and July, each couture house spends a fortune to make and present its collections, which has to be at least fifty designs though most houses do many more, to their most important clients, celebrities and the press. In the past the shows were a quiet affair mostly held in couture salons, however they have now become a theatrical extravaganza with loud music and lights.
The first phase of assembling a collection begins in the couturier’s design studio many months before the show. The couturier has a thorough understanding of human anatomy and the properties of fibers and fabrics and will begin with either the fabric or a silhouette. These must be compatible because of the combined qualities of fabric, its weight, drape, texture and hand, which is the fabric’s crispness or softness, will make it appropriate for some style of silhouettes and not others. If the designer is contemplating a sculpted look, he would want a tightly woven, crisp fabric and if he were looking for a soft flowing look following the curves of the body, he would choose a fabric with a soft hand.
Meg here! I AM HOME! I am in my bed-in my bedroom to be exact and I think Meg Heads would love my bedroom. You might not want it for your own but you would appreciate it! I am typing in my bed with my big pink tufted leather headboard. My furniture is all art deco and mirrored and I have Erte pictures framed on the wall. The color scheme is predominately black and white but there are strong pink influences. The pink chair at my 1940's inspired vanity. The rhinestone pink embossed hand mirror and gilded accessories. It is very Old Hollywood inspired and very girly and it is mine and I love it! When men see it they kind of roll their eyes. When girls see it they say "I LOVE this!" It appeals to every woman's inner Norma Desmond or Joan Crawford.
Goddess Granny and I were on the road and I was away from my little slice of pink heaven. I got to stay at the Goddess's amazing and sprawling Texan ranch. I got to see the beauty and feel the crisp Colorado Spring air of Sharond's wonderful mountainside home. What a fantastic host and entertainer she and her family were! Many thanks! Dallas was gorgeous. Yet-I am so glad to be home!
Sharond here! Karen726 made a comment on one of my reviews about how she disliked the overuse of packaging. I empathized with her and see it as such a waste of our precious natural recourses and worse, all the chemicals that go into the packaging material. Of all the packaging, I find that heavy plastic sandwiched between cardboard is the worse. I can not even begin to tell you how many finger nails I have broken, knives I have ruined, scissors I have had to buy because they broke trying to open a package and even going so far as avoiding to buy an item as I knew I would not be able to open it. When Karen726 made that comment, I knew I had to write about an item I found at Walgreen’s Drug Store on sale for under $10.00. This item is the OpenIt For Plastic Packaging & More by Zibra and has become the handiest tool in any drawer or glove box in our household. This product does not fall into the make-up category, but it will save your manicure.
The OpenIt is a scissor looking devise with angled offset jaws made of hardened and plated alloy steel. It has ergo handles covered in a hard rubber that can be used by either left or right-handed people, a retractable utility knife, and a removable Phillips and slotted mini screwdriver set all in one convenient package.
Meg here! I am exhausted and watching Chelsea Lately with Goddess Granny in our hotel room in Amarillo, Texas. We left Dallas today and our goal was to try to just get out of Texas-but um, have you seen the size of Texas? We have a couple more hours and then we should hit our goal of arriving in Colorado Springs tomorrow! We are off to see Sharond and take in the sights of beautiful Colorado.
Last night we had our Meg Head meet up and had a great time! Chelsea1 joined us and it was amazing to get to meet her in person! There mani's and massages and cocktails and apps and GIFT BAGS!
