Stacy B here! I've had a lot of time to myself lately. Well, me and my newborn, but as much as I talk to him throughout the day, he doesn't talk back much. Being home with a very good but demanding little baby who much prefers to be held while walking around the house offers me a lot of time to play around with new make up and make up styles.
I know, it's pretty funny to think about me walking around the house with my handsome little man who probably spit up down my back, in yoga pants and a t-shirt, most likely un-showered and hair in a 2-day old ponytail with full glam, red-carpet-ready make up. But it's happened a few times! Sometimes I have time to wash it off before my hubby gets home but not always. He's gotten used to seeing me in various states of made up and just calmly takes the baby and lets me shower.
This certainly isn't the first time I've admitted to something slightly embarrassing in the name of make up reviews! And I bet it won't be the last.
Being home alone is a good time to try things you wouldn't normally try. I've been trying various shades of NYX's Pump it up Lip Plumper because I have always been afraid to try this before something important. What if I react badly to it and it makes me look like I got punched in the lips and then doesn't go down? I'm sure that's unrealistic, but when you are home all day with a baby, your mind goes to weird places...
The good news is that this did NOT make me look like a crazy balloon lipped lady. The bad news is that I'm not sure it did anything. It is a gloss so it can stand on its own which is nice. I didn't need to layer a lipstick under it to get color. Although there is a clear one which I could have used to layer if I wanted to. It's mildly sticky but not too annoying, and went on fairly smoothly. It's definitely not a high quality gloss, but it's not bad. It's usually sold for under $6, so keep that in mind.
At first, nothing happened. Then, after a few minutes, my lips started to tingle. It was a very weird feeling, like I ate too many of those little cinnamon red hot candies and licked my lips about a dozen times. I was afraid to talk too much or eat anything. I had an odd fear that it was like when you go to the dentist and get novacaine and if you talk or move too much you drool everywhere. Again, not realistic but come on, I am still up twice a night to feed my little man!
I kept checking the mirror to see if I could notice a difference. I couldn't so I asked the Mister. He very quickly said he could tell that my lips were a little more swollen than normal. Too quickly. I am not sure I believe him. And yes, he used 'swollen' which I guess isn't the worst thing he could have said.
I did like the color selection and the sticky factor was not so bad. And the shades are named after plump-lipped celebs which is cute. This was a decent gloss that didn't dry out or wear off too fast, but I can't stand behind it as a plumper. I still don't have proof that it actually worked. And the tube has a picture of a syringe on it, which I found a bit creepy.... But, I'd love to hear from anyone else who might have tried this and seen a difference!
Who swears they see a difference from their lip plumper? Which one?
Stacy B here! In the past 5 or so years, I think I've been to more than 25 weddings. There was a time in our late 20s when my husband and I (we were one of the first of all our friends to tie the knot) had five to seven invites a year. At first we tried to get to them all but we had to cut down our wedding travel and overnight stays as we got older, bought a house and had kids. Plus, a new dress, shoes and accessories per wedding were getting expensive! And yes, I HAD to get a new outfit each time, they were usually the same circle of friends invited, I couldn't repeat!
Of course we made it to all the local ones and last weekend was no exception. We had a great time, got out and away from the kids for a night (thanks Mom and Dad!) and got to see a lot of good friends who we hadn't seen since before the baby was born in April. Since I wasn't going to buy a new dress that won't fit as soon as the rest of the baby weight is gone, I splurged on some new makeup. And by splurge, you know I mean drugstore buys with coupons. Like under $10 total.
Thank you again, Wet n Wild for your product makeover without the price hike. I bought myself a really nice peach-y brown neutral lip color, Mega Shield Lip Color Spf 15 -in Peachy Keen. For only $3!
I know, I know, sometimes you get what you pay for. This is not a miracle stick. It will not last for days, create the perfect Angelina pout, get all your drinks paid for, or even last through dinner. But, it was $3. It promised to 'glide on buttery-soft'', deliever moderate coverage, and condition with Vitamin E, amino acids, avocado oil, and rice bran oil. It did all three, so I was happy. It was like I paid $1 for each claim.
It did go on really smoothly and blended perfectly with my gloss. It was not chalky or heavy and felt more gloss-like than a heavy lipstick. The color was perfect and the pigment was just right. On my lips the color looked just like the stick so I know now that if I buy another color, I won't have to debate in the store whether or not the color will be the true when I get it home.
It did not dry out my lips at all and I had no flaking or smudging. I can't speak to the SPF-ness of it, but I'm not one to wear lipstick to the beach so I'd be OK with whatever's in there.
The only gripe I have is that it promises to last for hours...not so much. I barely got through the cocktail hour before I knew I had to reapply. And then again after dinner. But, that's not a big deal to me. After a few open bar cocktails, I usually have to go to the bathroom a few times anyway, so a little touch up is not a nuisance at all. I loved the color so I accept that trade off.
I also didn't worry about losing it, or dropping it out of my bag and getting it stepped on or something since it only cost $3. It was perfectly within my budget, did it's job fairly well and only added to my growing admiration of Wet n Wild's new transformation. We have yet another wedding in September and I'm sure I'll be shopping for the perfect fall color by then!
Meg here! I have an item that you probably need. NEED. Scratch "probably". If you're like me, when you find something that works and performs beautifully, you'll havd over your money. More than I would care to admit, I take a deep breathe and just hand it to the cashier and tell her to "just ring it fast please!" Before my inner Susie Ormand voice (luckily I silence it a lot) says "If you put the money that you just spent on that bag/shoes/jacket you would have a healthy IRA." I just want my darn purchase in the bag, that way I can reply "next time! Too late here!" Yes, I'm the picture of financial responsibility.
Knowing this fact about me is going to hopefully, get your butt in gear and get you to your local drugstore where you can often find Revlon on sale! The great news, you can get it even cheaper than that! Just leave in the comments below why you need a Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain and Revlon will mail you one! The first 10 commenters win!
If you find yourself to be comment 11, don't fret. These amazingly affordable, Kissable bam stains are so reasonably priced, you can buy three for the price of a similar product!
You're going to want at least three.
I have always had a love affair with lipstains, I adore the staying power! What I don't adore? The "lip drying" factor. SUre, the color will stay for hours. It's like the color has deeply permeated into my flesh and not in a moisturizing way. I've actually used some that felt like a Sharpie. In the name of beauty and time, I've just dealt with it. Someday, they will "build a better man trap!" Or "mousetrap," whatever works.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain is a huge winner! A chunky, crayola inspired crayon that's comes in an array of flattering shades. The staying power is fantastic, it lasts a long time-hours! The best part, it goes on creamy and moisturizing. There's zero "tightness". I'm glad Revlon elected to add "BALM" in the title because that's exactly what it feels like. My lips are being nourished all the while touting a fabulous colored sheen.
My go-to has been a berry colored shade called "Adore". We're talking some serious summer loving, it has made its way into the coveted purse cosmetic bag. Here is something that I do. I know it is shallow and stupid and ridiculous, but hey, I never claimed to be anyone's hero. I like to put my pricier items in my purse. I like to grab a $25 lipstick out of it and put the fabulously expensive package on display. I am superficial and a poser like that. This item is under $8. I proudly pull it out with enthusiam and glee like it's $80. I know, I need my head examined.
I know I also need every color, totally grabbing "Precious" today when I head to Rite Aid. It says something when I, someone that has more lip colors than Gaga is going to actually purchase another beauty product.
Another plus? This isn't life changing but it's the little things people, no sharpener needed. I can't be the only one that has 5 floating in rotation. It seems the round hole needed never fits into the round hole of the sharpener I manage to find. The easy twist action never leaves me muttering "where'd I put that." I appreciate having an extra five minutes to look for something else I've misplaced.
My lips look healthy, the color can be layered so you can go from light sheen to full on pow! The staying power is as impressive as a stain without the dryness, I'm obsessed with these. Win one in the comment section below. That is, if you're still reading this? Why are you still reading this? I figured I would be able to hear the squeal of your tires driving to your local drugstore right now. I mean, seriously people. Deal of the year for an item you'll be more than overjoyed with!
Has anyone else tried these fantastic Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains? They're really that good!
Goddess Granny here! It's June and that means 2012 is half over which terrifies me because it feels like you just get one new look under control and it's already time to begin the next reinvention! There is something to be said for a "classic look" but I'm having trouble defining what that means: do I stick with red lips and black cats eye liner forever, do I just update products because the tech is giving us options, or do I just deal with the mood/look of the moment in my mind and run with it?
I have tried but cannot embrace "nail art" although I love it on others and will wear outrageous shades on my toes! I have tried lash-extensions only to have swollen eyes from adhesive and the cost of upkeep is crazy and I have decided that "ombre" in any form is best left to those whose weren't around when tie dye had it's heyday! So I'm trying to wade through the ever-increasing options when it comes to "what works" and again, attempt to have what works, quality, and if I'm feeling vain, nice packaging as a bonus!
The name and brand Yves Sant Laurent (1936-2008) is synonymous with class any way you slice it! From some of the most breathtaking and memorable fashion designs of all times to the iconic fragrance "Opium" with ads that shocked and seduced, I believe almost everyone has heard of the legend! "With her innate elegance, the YSL woman adapts to every moment in her life and this is what makes her so desirable!" Swoon…who would NOT want to be that woman? I cannot possibly define or use words ANY better to describe my personal relationship with makeup than Monsieur himself has and it's pure genius:
The inimitable "Touch Eclat" has been on the top of "the best" product lists forever because it's really the best and I believe that a NEW star will earn rave reviews in 2012 and beyond," Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levres Glossy Stain!" Whew…now that's a name but I'll refer to it as YSL Glossy lip stain and it will be fine for our purposes. It's an entirely NEW product, formula, and finish and there is nothing else like it (yet…you know they will try) on the market! This is a hybrid gloss/stain that comes in a vast array of shades so there's sure to be one you love…every cosmetic YSL creates is housed in luxurious-packaging that makes me feel so French and fancy when I use it and this comes in a gorgeous, hefty container with a clear window so if you have more than one, you can see the actual product inside. The applicator is unique, not a typical "does foot" but a plush and perfect one obviously created just to apply this product. And what a sensual application it is: start in the middle and swipe out to the corners top and bottom without doing the dreaded "lip smack" because you want this to set and it will in seconds! It goes on cool and wet and silky and creamy like the best kiss ever and colors your lips in a FRESH new way with a finish that is full-coverage- glossy and polished with gorgeous color but it is a stain as well so the results last without becoming dry or with those weird-lines because it fades unevenly!
It is pure perfection for those of us who rely on our lips to anchor our "look" and I have literally not had it on since I bought the first one a couple of weeks ago and many have noticed!
My original shade was #9 "Rouge Laque" and it's the PERFECT juicy Summer shade but I was so enamored with this product, I ordered up three more in various shades of red and WANT every single shade! It's a guiltless and sensual experience to apply this product and the way it lights up my face even if I'm only wearing a bit of coverup and mascara is epic! Absolutely worth every penny, there is a generous amount of product in the container and I only re-apply after a meal or with a fresh face because it stays pretty for so long!
You can find it at Sephora but I'm glad I took the time to visit the YSL site: it's so elegant and informative and I feel very chi-chi just reading it!
I'd suggest checking out some swatches because the colors can vary but every review I have seen RAVES about this Glossy Lip Stain and I'm on the bandwagon with this one! I cannot wait to add some lighter shades and am hoping they will add even more darker ones because that "look" for Fall 2012 isn't going anywhere and it's a delight to know that at least I already have my perfect lips ready to evolve into Fall!
Buy it here as well and if you add only ONE glam-luxury item this year, let it be this one! :
Meg here! I know I write about some out there topics but don't worry. Napoleon Perdis Nude Bar is not some new, seedy, drinking joint in a shady part of town! Oh you silly geese! Napoleon Perdis was all about reds for this fall, he was as he always is, completely on target and trend. It may help to be completely on target and trend when you're the one that creates them...Back to my point. I swear I had one.
So this spring if you're going to be doing the still hot mettalic eyeshadows then you must pair it with the always sexy nude lip. If you're doing subtle eyes than go for a bold, spring lip. The Master recommends Hara or Aphrodite!
I write that and it doesn't sound nearly as fabulous as when Napoleon says it! I wish I was able to exude such prescence. Perdis has been one of the worlds leading makeup artists for years and his Napoleon Perdis Makeup Academy has been held in the highest esteem. It's like having Harvard on your resume for the beauty world. Unlike other schools, Perdis has created an experience that takes students through the steps, A-Z. Let's Start with "A" shall we? A for Ambience. The school space is over 9,000 feet on Hollywood Boulevard. It's steps away from where they host this little event called "The Oscars." So no big deal.
Napoleon painstakingly created a work space where his studios not only have top notch materials (computer library, tons of beauty literature and amazing work stations complete with their extremely successful teachers.) He went a step further. Instead of having students searching for cool locations, Napoleon built a studio inside the Academy. At the turn of a key, his school space not only turns into a professional shooting studio but also a fabulous event space. Major magazines and TV productions have been using it at as shooting space and that's incredible exposure for some very lucky up and coming beauty talents.
One of the reasons Napoleon is so great is because he takes the guess work out of trying to duplicate the trends. Through trial and tribulation (working on the biggest faces in Hollywood) he learned what translated to "real life." I love that I'm not going to have to sort through "the perfect nude lippy" becuase he already did that for me and presented his top 5 choices. That's pretty genius.
Tomorrow, I'll have up part 2 of our exclusive Napoleon interveiw! That's where we explore his brand new Camera Foundation. It's finally warming up out here in L.A. L.A. Land (I can see you rolling your eyes from here!) I just can't wait to go nude.
How about you? Who else is all about the nude lip?
Goddess Granny on the fly yet again has found a little something something to share that is REALLY a cool little product because If you make me wait too long in the checkout line and if there are are cute little bottles and items especially if they are unique in shape and color,I will pile them into my basket and you product-designers KNOW this! This was on a "shop and grab" run to Ulta and I found gold among the glitter!
I adore red lipstick but hate to see it being worn on lips that need some solid moisture and maybe a bit of TLC before it's applied because then it juts isn't pretty: you need a bit of prep to insure that your lips are plum and pillowy and THEN your knock em' dead red will get the looks of lust! Some lip balms are too waxy and others too sticky and it's hard to create a "base" for glam lips that adds to the effect and doesn't cause it to slide off or end up on your teeth! I hate that so when I picked up this sassy little I don't really know what you'd call it shaped hybrid tube with a rollerball of MAGIC lip fixit,I was ridiculously pleased…
OWN is a unique little company with a very straightforward philosophy: natural, effective, efficient and affordable: what's not to like about that? I love their packaging and intend to order up some of their products I haven't seen in retail locations yet because their "Nighttime Lip Therapy" is absolutely AMAZING!!! I just love this funky little deep-blue tube/rollerball that allows the product to seep and ooze perfectly onto every little corner of your lips when you glide it on at night,it feels smooth with a bit of a sugary taste and scent that goes away quickly but what remains is the most incredible moisture-barrier and wake me up beautiful plump lips ever!
It rejuvenates, it rehydrates, it feels sexy and luscious, and it WORKS: I wake up with a pouty-plump pair of lips ready to smooch or to paint to perfection! It's a luxurious mix of oils and shea-butter that will have you using it a lot more often than at night,so feel free to indulge because it's not pricey so you can apply with glee! I have paid a ton of money for products that insured lush lips but can honestly say that when you apply this as directed at night you get incomparable results with no fuss or muss! This is a truly fantastic little item and I suggest it to anyone, whether you love lipstick or not because you'll be able to feel and see the difference the first morning after you try it!
Read about OWN on their simple and classy little site and be sure to notice how perfectly edited and lovely their line is,you can also buy "Nighttime Lip Therapy" here or scoop it up at Ulta like I did!:
I want one of these sassy little tubes in every room! It's just one of those "who knew?" products that really is something to be thrilled about! This is one for all of us to enjoy and don't you love it when you hit on a real "find" that you didn't expect to be quite so sensational?
Stacy B here! I'm in my office, enjoying my view of the construction going on next door where our new building is going up taking a little snack break. And by 'enjoying the view' I mean staring terrified at the workers on the ledges of the steel beams flying through the air hoping if someone falls, I'm not the only one who sees it.
It's about 3 pm and I wipe my mouth and I check my little desk mirror to make sure I have nothing stuck in my teeth and I realize that my morning lipstick just wiped off on my napkin and now my lips are officially bare. It's been about 7 hours since applied it and it's been through a full breakfast, a morning snack, a full lunch and an afternoon snack. I eat a lot now, on account of that pesky little human growing inside me. Pretty amazing for a drugstore product!
Thanks Maybelline for another drugstore gem accessible to anyone, no matter how much is in your wallet. I told you all before I had a lot of new Maybelling stuff this month, so here's review number 2 in a longer line. I'll break it up a bit as the weeks go on, but I'm pretty happy with some of the new spring products Maybelline is debuting this month so I'd really like to share them with my favorite internet ladies.
This morning I applied Maybelline's Super Stay 14 Lipstick! No, it's not really a 14 hour lipstick, but honestly, with the amount of food going in my body right now and how much I talk at my job, getting from 8 am to about 3 pm is pretty good. And it would have been longer if I hadn't had to wipe my mouth. I dabbed it earlier after breakfast which usually preserves lip color, but this afternoon it didn't occur to me that my color might still be on 7 hours later so I just wiped away.
I was wearing Beige for Good, which is a really great neutral for someone like me, with yellow based skin that's really pale from the winter. Anything 'neutral' that has hints of pink or orange in it looks terrible on me, I need a true neutral that leans toward brown or beige and this really delivered. I have a few glosses to wear over it, and so far have tried a peach, a brown/gold shimmer and a purple and all looked great. The purple was a little daring for me, but the beige shade softened it just enough. I loved the peach over it, but I'm not quite ready for that yet, I need a little more spring color on my skin. This Beige for Good with a peach gloss over will be my summer staple, I know it.
It does go on a little thick at first so I had to make sure I was applying with a light hand. If you are OK with a lipstick, you'll be fine, but if you are a gloss-only girl, this might be too much for you. It didn't cake, but I have noticed that my lips are a bit dry at night now. I think sometimes you have to sacrifice a little moisture for longevity, at least in an inexpensive drugstore brand, but that's why I'm a champion at layering. A moisturizing gloss over the top not only keeps the dryness away, but protects your color and can make it last longer.
A swipe of gloss before my snack might have kept me from wiping it off entirely after I finished my cookie (I mean my really healthy vegetable/fruit snack with extra vitamins and a side of protein for my unborn child).
Unlike my last review of the Color Tattoo product, this has plenty of light, neutral and every day shades. I already have my eye on a more peach-y pink lipstick called Consistently Truffle for summer that would be really fun with a gold shimmer over it.
Another good one for the spring from Maybelline. My only wish is that it was a little more moisturizing, but for less than $10, I can happily mix and match with my moisturizing glosses. I like having some variety anyway!
Meg note-I have this lipstick and Stacy, I too love it! The Super Stay 10 hour Stain is really knocking my socks off! I can't wait until you review that one!
Goddess Granny is out the door en route to cool temps and warm hearts but I snagged a little something last week I simply cannot leave without sharing with y'all because they're amazing! If you don't know who Kate Moss is, I seriously would be surprised as she's been one of THE most influential style and beauty icons of the past decade and beyond because of her quirky glamour and indisputable sensuality. The girl can make anything she wears or sells look HOT and that has been a seriously bankable asset to her! She is a bit of a bad girl in a good way and I'm a huge fan so when I heard that yet another mass-market brand of distinction, the UK based line "Rimmel" teamed up with their "face." Joined together to create some of THE most gorgeous and in my opinion BEST lipstick shades currently on the shelves, I of course, scrambled down to see what all the fuss was about…
These are NOT the typical greasy, smells like butter out at the picnic, non-performing lipsticks that line many shelves at the drugstore and supermarket: these are so close to the "couture" brands in both presentation and formula that I was shocked! A beautifully designed and hefty matte and shiny black tube embellished with Kate's own signature in red houses the five GORGEOUS shades worthy of her name designed by Miz Moss herself! The scent is divine and chic, not unlike "that" high-end designer lipstick brand that hovers at the $30.00 price point and the shades are fabulous! I was able to snatch the last #1 and #12 from the display, and the #1 has been on the lips and blogs of MANY top makeup artists lately because it's "that red…" you know, the one that EVERYONE looks perfect in???
The formula is designated as a "lasting finish" but these slip on with no dryness or pull and TONS of pigmented intensity! If I didn't have the drugstore bag on my vanity I seriously would have not been able to tell these from MUCH higher priced lipsticks and the lasting creamy- color-payoff was simply perfection! I will go as far as to say that #12, a pinky-coral-red may just be THE most PERFECT shade of red ever on a redhead! You know the one that Christina Hendricks wears to gala events and they say it's some name brand. When I go to find it, it looks nothing like the photo in the tube! It's probably a hybrid created by a color genius with a brush and like 17 tubes of color swiped on her lips?
For me#12 is that good, I look like I mean biz and with a pair of my favorite "Tres Noir Bombshell" sunnies on? I might just be mistaken at the airport for a famous naughty girl myself!
I highly suggest you track down these lipsticks asap as the buzz is OUT: they are absolutely incredible and there is a shade you're sure to love as I know some still aren't sure about red but trust me,it's sticking around for all of 2012! You can even try Kate's lipstick shades ON virtually here at the ever so fun and very trendy Rimmel website!
These lipsticks can be found at Ulta, Walgreens, Walmart, and at many of the well-known mass market drug and grocery stores so check in your area asap and don't miss out as I predict these will be gone in a flash! Lipstick screams of class and sophistication to me and Kate's done herself proud with this collection for Rimmel! I double dog dare you to try the #1 shade in the photo above and not feel just a bit more like you could seduce anyone! I know we've chatted about the "red" before and some love, others not so much: what shade makes YOU feel like you are the queen of your world?
Thanks for making me feel like a super-mode at least for today Kate!
Stacy B here! As women, we have a tendency to be jealous and wary of other women. Some say it's a double standard in the way we have been raised, always the lesser gender and therefore in competition with each other, some say it's from media pressure to always look perfect and some even say it's because we've been told we can have it all and if we don't, we hate that girl that does.
No matter what the reason, it's stupid. We should try hard to keep jealousy at bay and not only celebrate our best features, but appreciate the positives in others. We all have good things in us and we should be happy with that. I know I've said this before but this site is really great for positive feedback and I see a lot of support for each other, even in our differences. On a slight side note, thanks to everyone who's said such nice things to me in the last few weeks when I went through the whole car accident, bad cop, traveling husband, sick toddler and general pregnancy woes. It definitely made me feel better!
Now, after all my sunshine and rainbows I have to tell you...I'm jealous of women who can pull of red lipstick. It's so glamorous and beautiful and pulled together and is an instant confidence boost. I just can't do it and I've tried so many times. Something about my skin tone just doesn't mesh with red. But good for you if you can! I won't be negative about it, I'll just admire you from afar.
I tried L'Oreal Color Riche Le Gloss in Red Ravishing and was crushed to realize that it was just another great product in a color that made me feel like I will never be a screen siren sex goddess with a perfect red pout.
The good news is that I will not be mad if you take this product and stop traffic, I'll just focus on something I like about myself, like my blue eyes, or my clear skin.
It's a good gloss, very low on the sticky scale, tinted enough to give you some color without looking too thick or matte, and smells great but isn't overly flavored. It hasn't been too drying as of yet and I don't need to reapply that often. It offers some nice shine and would be great as a standalone or a layering product (which I love!) Lucky for me, there are about 15 different colors and I am determined to find one for me. Especially for only about $8. What drugstore brands are your go-to's?
Stacy B here! I may be a coupon cutting, deal finding, drugstore shopping mom, but that doesn't mean I'm not up on the latest fashion. I watch the shows, read the magazines and check the websites and try to stay up on latest trends (cost-efficiently, of course!) But, life gets busy sometimes. I forget to check my blogs and sites, or I find myself reading a People from 3 weeks ago or I look in my closet and realize my most current shirt is from October. Oops.
That usually sends me straight to Nordstrom's Rack, or hautelook.com for a quick update and an inexpensive retail pick-me-up. I try, really. And I never pay full price. I'm posing this question to you because I am not ashamed to admit I miss the latest trends sometimes and I know you all have those busy weeks when you suddenly realize your toes aren't bare because you took off the polish, they're bare because the color chipped off and grew out. We're all busy people!
So....are matte lips in? I lean toward no. Help me out ladies, flat or gloss? And I'm not talking about my newly redone bathroom walls. I don't really like how matte lips look and in scanning my People (the January 16 issue, I'm only 1 week behind!) I didn't see a lot of matte lips. Maybe some matte color with some gloss over it, but nothing flat.
In the name of fashion, make-up and blogging, I tried a matte lipstick from NYX this week. I chose Whipped Caviar, a neutral beige-y pink. Something about that name makes my stomach turn. Whipped Caviar? Whipped fish? Fish on my lips? gross. That's the pregnant lady talking right there, don't worry, it doesn't taste or smell like fish!
It was a little pink on me, but I'm a champion layerer and adding some shimmer in a brownish gold color made it workable. The color went on fairly smoothly, sometimes mattes can pull, but this was a bit more creamy than I expected. It really had staying power, I ate lunch at work the other day, wiped my mouth and noticed a decent amount of color on the napkin, about 4 hours later!
My biggest complain about mattes is that they can dry you out. I didn't notice any drying right away, but after a few days I had some dryness on my lips. I do like layering with a moisturizing gloss so that might have helped. I took a break for a day and my lips felt fine. It also felt a little heavy at first, which I wasn't crazy about. I don't want to feel like I'm eating lipstick. Especially one named after fish eggs.
I am not sure I'd keep this as an every day lipstick, but it might be nice for a special occasion where you need that color to stay put. It did last and for only about $6, it's worth a try if you are into mattes. Or, if they are in again and I totally missed it. I'll catch up on maternity leave, I promise!
Any of you matte girls? What's the most you would pay for your dream lipstick?! Oh, that's a fun question!
