Meg here! I have had a close call with fruit lately. First off, I am allergic to latex. Secondly, as a kid I absolutely hated banana's. My grandmother would not believe me. She would say "No one is allergic to banana's." She would then say that I needed potassium and make me eat the damn things. I never got outwardly ill, I just felt sick insde when I ate them.
Cut to 15 years later at my gyno exam. He asked me "do you have any allergies?" I answered "latex." He then said "Oh, you must hate banana's. They're full of latex." Bingo! I told you Gram!!
Allergies can get worse as you get older. I was just finishing up my brunch at the posh Sunset Marquis Hotel. There was a kiwi on my plate. A teeny little slice that was there for a decorative touch. I ate it. The rest of my party went to the powder room. Ironically enough, they were from New Zealand. I then felt my throat itch and swell and start to close. Great! Death by kiwi while brunching with Kiwi's, how ironic. I'm still here so no, I didn't drop dead but it was a scary experience. Apparently, those little suckers are full of latex. So I'm being more careful of the latex fruit list. I'm going to be really depressed when I can't eat tomatoes. Gosh, I love tomatoes.
However, since the "kiwi incident" I have been avoiding strawberries, mango's, avacado and yes, the dreaded banana. When I look back at sex ed, where the teacher puts a latex condom on a banana I have an anxiety attack. Thank God I never volunteered. That's just a lethal combo!
Raspberries are now (until I feel a throat tightening) my new go to! Why just this past Friday night LAFred and I went for margarita's and I ordered the purple raspberry one. Yum. Megsroomie was having a Halloween party at the house and I was too tired to be home for it. Friday's kill me. I can't keep my eyes open past 11pm.
I asked LAFred is I could stay at his house and if I could bring Prudence and have a movie night? All I wanted was to put on my sweats. LAFred agreed, yay! We were off. A night of sweats, a movie and to top it off Arcona's Raspberry Resurfacing Peel. My skin was looking dull and tired and LAFred said he'd try this new peel out with me. People rave over it! Google the ARCONA RASPBERRY RESURFACING PEEL REVIEWS!
I am a huge fan of Arcona! I am always really impressed with their products and I usually enlist a friend to try them with me. I'm all about the sharing the great results. Megsroomie and I were so thrilled a while back when we tried Arcona's Wine Hydrating Mask, I couldn't wait to get to LAFred's and try the peel!
After thoroughly washing my makeup off and patting my face dry, I squeezed out the Raspberry Peel and applied it all over my face avoiding the eye area. Initially it really stung. I got a little paranoid and said a silent prayer I wasn't having some new fruit reaction. I wasn't, fruit sugar is powerful stuff and it was eating away at the dead cell layer of skin off my face. After 2 minutes it the sting went away but I definitely felt a tingle for a good 5 minutes after.
LAFred felt only a slight tingle. My skin must be more sensitive and he is not aware of having any latex issues himself.
I left the peel on for the full 15 minutes and then rinsed it off with warm water. My skin felt like I had just had a facial! Really! My skin felt tighter but really clean and soft. If also brought a pesky whitehead to surface. Another organic win for Arcona!
Breaking up is hard to do. Let’s face it, only the rarest among us, handle ourselves well in the midst of a breakup. For the majority of us the days and weeks post-split become a haze of vodka-sponsored trips to the shores of Blackout Island, social media stalking and staged encounters in Trader Joes.
That’s why we deserve a pick me up.
Meghead and longtime friend of Meg’s Makeup Jo Piazza has penned her very first novel, “Love Rehab: A Novel in 12 Steps.” It will be released at the end of January just in time for every single gal’s favorite holiday—President’s Day.
But before the novel comes out, Jo wants to hear from you. She wants us to free ourselves from the bad feelings about our breakups by admitting some of the nutty things things they have done in the heartbreak haze of a breakup (drunken serenades, elaborate cyber stalking schemes that could rival Carrie Mathison, hand-stitching his name over and over again on a giant quilt that you send to his mom......that may have just been me).
There are some pretty great prizes too ($250 Juicy Couture Gift card, Rent the Runway Gift Card, Leonor Greyl hair products, Koret handbags, a bottle of Courvosier Gold and practically a year's supply of makeup from yours truly).
Meg here! I hate saying that because I always say it and also, you're all a bit mad at me because I haven't yet got your cosmetics out to you. All I can promise (and I stand behind my word) is you'll be happy once you get them. This is a HAUL!
Let's talk eyes. Eye Scream, you scream we all scream for eye cream!
Without eye cream I just scream. Period. It's not pretty.
The fine sensitive area under the eyes? Let's be frank, (hi Frank) it's like the tip of a Peter.
So thin and so smooth and so sensitive to the touch. You should never use a finger stronger than your ring finger to apply your cream. It's so delicate any touch with force can alter the skin (hi Peter.) We had a true arguement. UNTIL we realized we argued the same point! From Dawn at Beautyfrosting.
Michael Todd True Organics is the answer for all puffiness, dark circle and eyelines. My gorgeous friend Dawn at Beautyfrosting is so amazing and really speaks to the argument that Michael Todd True Organics Eye Treatment is the answer! She had two of us over debating eye cream.
While it produces noticeable, dramatic, results when it comes to line reduction, dark circle-correction, de-puffing and overall eye hydration and skin cell regeneration, its price point is totally doable at $38 for .5 fl oz.
Plus the fact that it’s cruelty-free and 85% organic makes me feel good about using it. Add in that celebrity plastic surgeon, Andrew Ordon, M.D., of “The Doctors” fame, says it “Tops my list of best eye cream treatments” and you have a winner in the war on anti-aging skincare.
A personal note? I love that after a particularly champagne-celebratory evening, the soothing, gentle, massage tip applicator helped break up my not-so-perky puffiness.
Within a week, it became a staple on my bedside table and a staple in my heart, as well.
Dawn's photo.
Again, I say it so many times because it's true. Naural works just as if, not better than chemical.
Stacy B here! I ran out of my favorite lip balm last night. That's the worst. I could feel the curved edges lightly scraping my lips even after turning that little wheel at the bottom a dozen times. I knew it would happen, I've been using it forever but still, it's a hard thing to deal with. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who is very attached (and very territorial) about my bedside balm! Hubby's not even allowed to use it, and it's hidden away from my curious 3-year-old.
I have been using, religiously, every night for about 6 months now, the Jason Sunbrellas Lip Balm SPF 25.I know. No one needs SPF at night but this stuff smelled so good and lasted so long, it became my night time balm by default. I could put this on at night, sleep a full 8 hours (ha! I said COULD, not would...I do still have an infant) and wake up with lips that are moist, smooth, not chapped at all and ready for the day. Even while I'm still getting up at night now to feed a little one, I don't have to reapply throughout the night. One good swipe before it's lights out and I'm good for the day.
It has a great minty smell and flavor that is not too strong, doesn't sting or tingle like some mint flavors can do, and doesn't overwhelm you. The best part is it's all natural, so no artifical colors, no animal testing, nothing in there that will cause weird lip cancers or something and it really lasts. I've used this through winters, springs and summers and even in the dryest of New England winters, it worked. On weekends I'll put some on in the morning if I'm not wearing make up or haven't showered yet and I'm usually good for the whole day. Even through eating and showering, when I get around to it.
Fiche here! Meg asked me to check out this product when I asked her for a foundation recommendation. It’s called Rx For Brown Skin. And it’s not a foundation. But as I am more pigmentally endowed than Ms Megs, I knew where she was coming from and if it can polish the ‘ole mug, maybe I won’t need the daily spackle to fill in the cracks, anyway.
So here’s the run down: It’s a three step process. Not my bag. I try to avoid turning my bathroom into a chem lab. But at least I understand what each thing does.
1.
Gentle cleanser – no hocus pocus here. A non-foaming, greaseless cleanser that doesn’t sting my eyes or over dry my skin. The website says it has “bright skin complex” and “Green tea.” That’s nice. I’m sure those things are very effective in RXing my brown skin but I don’t know if the 20 seconds on my face before I rinse it down the drain does all that much. Still, as a cleanser it does good. If you use a heavier/ long wear foundation, you might need to wash twice.
2.
Absolute Radiance Intensive Exfoliating Serum – now we’re cracking open some eye of newt. MFA Complex (that means it’s highly educated, ya know), Hyaluronic Acid, and that neat-o Bright Skin Complex (soy and pomegranate- tasty snacks and good for your skin). Now, when I slap on something that claims to exfoliate intensively, I expect to be flaking off epidermis like a bad sunburn with a taste for revenge. Thankfully, I didn’t get so much as a tingle. I got a little liberal on the application and the result was a little shine on my cheekbones but otherwise, I didn’t really feel “intense” – and that’s a good thing.
3.
Naturally Flawless Botanical Brightener – is it a moisturizer? I’m not sure. It says to use after the serum and before an SPF. Sounds like a moisturizer to me. It doesn’t list ingredients I recognize as moisturizers. Let’s see what the witches brewed into this potion: Melanostatine 5, Tyrostat, Beta-White. This divine trinity is supposed to reduce dark spots. And I can only hope they’ve been moisturizing me, too.
But you want to know the result. Well, first of all, ANY time I switch face products – cleanser, moisturizer, foundation – I break out for a few days. Except this time. No break out. It was super gentle and super effective. My skin tone did even out noticeably and the texture did get smoother. I’m not so sure one has to be that far on the brown spectrum to benefit. I think it might work for diminishing freckles on fair skin. But I can’t tell you that from experience, since I have neither freckles nor fair skin.
Meg here! I've been shouting it from the roof tops so I'm glad there's even more U.S. validation for our favorite luxury shampoo Leonor Greyl's Shampooing Reviviscence. The holy book of beauty, Allure Magazine has picked it as it's top luxury shampoo touting "a riot of oils that absolutely spoi hair!"
The Parisians have known the benefits of Leonor Greyl for over 40 years. When I was in Paris it was a no brainer that I would take a trip to see where it all happens. I took myself off to Leonor Greyl's Institute. If you're going to do Paris you might as well go where the tres chic get tres coiffed. The treatments offered go way beyond the standard cut and color. There's an actual treatment room where oils and hair recipes are painstakingly applied. Think a spa for your scalp.
I went back into the treatment room where my follicles were fully examined. This was no casual affair. There were mixing bowls and a meticulous diagnosis designed to heal exactly what was ailing my lackluster tresses.
It was both intense yet relaxing as I literally "handed my head over." Between the thick moistrizers being applied and the serene music being pumped, it was a complete spa experience. For your scalp.
The periodic head massages during my application made me so relaxed I started to nod off at a few points. At the end of my treatment, my hair was shiny and full of bounce. I was thoroughly relaxed and just left wondering "why the heck don't salons in America offer these treatments?" Really, it's like scalp shiatsu and the deep conditioning treatment left my hair gorgeous.
Things that make you go hmmmm. This wouldn't be a weekly jaunt but it would be a fabulous monthly splurge. If you don't have a trip to Paris coming up in your near future, no worries, you can bring the splurge stateside. Right in your shower, I'm not advising you to use Leonor Greyl's Shampooing Reviviscence EVERYDAY, because it is a splurge. Plus, I always like to shake it up a little bit with the shampoos. I'm not the only that notices if you use the same product day in and day out on your hair, it seems to stop working.
A little goes a long way, it is so emoliient and is packed with so many essential oils you only need a dab. Also, don't apply it below your ears! Just keep it really saturated on the top of your scalp and the conditioning oils will run through to your ends.
There's a reason celebrities from Jenifer Aniston to Madonna, all keep Leonor Greyl in their beauty arsenals. It works, it's natural and it's definite luxury.
Beauty editors of every major magazine have been touting the Leonor Greyl line as a "Must Have." I'm really glad the word is getting out to those beyond the gilded gates.
It's Sunday, I still have a ton of work left and a dinner meeting. Last week was nonstop from the second I got off the plane and while this week isn't as quite insane, it' s far from quiet. I know I'm not alone here. Especially when I hear you mother's talk, it seems like a shower or tub is the only break we are getting where the phone isn't ringing (LA is more of a text town) or dinging.
Meg here! It's wonderful to have great friends that are also beauty junkies! My really great girlfriend Dawn McCoy over at BeautyFrosting.com and I got together to have a little vino (shocker) and talk all things about Revlon Photoready Eye Primer + Brightener
We have some tips on how to use it! A lot of women haven't incorporated highlighter into their beauty routines and they really should. It mimics a "good night sleep" for all of us. I love to use it just uder my eyebrow. I apply it above my shadow and on the brow bone to give a fresh faced look.
I also use the same Marilyn Monroe trick that Max Factor taught her. Apply it on your clavicle bones and shimmy a little between the cleavage for a grown up, sexy sheen. It also looks great on the top of the cheek bone, and a dot above your top lip, rightin the center, will give the illusion of a perkier pout.
Dawn is a guru and loves to put it around her eyes in the orbital section (didn't know that one!) You learn a new trick everyday.
Check out our video and also get ready to win! Revlon is giving away ten of their Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel.
I'm off to pitch what I've been working on for TWO YEARS today so please send me good vibes!

OK, I hope that answers some of your questions. The good news is, things are slowing down and I am getting the ducks in a row over here! Phew.
Last week, my wonderful friend Jamie (who reps Clearasil) asked if I would like to go to the new movie "Pitch Perfect" premiere. She said that I could grab a friend, "Hi Martin!" and we could attend the screening and after party.
The movie was super cute. If you're a gleek you'll be in heaven. The women looked gorgeous and we have and easy "get the look" below.
Anna Kendrick hit a high note with her dewy skin and dramatic eyes. Get this radiant look by cleansing with a daily exfoliator like Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Scrub to keep skin looking clear and refreshed. For any pre-event breakouts, treat them quickly with Clearasil Ultra® Rapid Action™ Treatment Gel. This spot treatment visibly reduces redness and spot size in just 4 hours! Then, just complete the look with dramatic smoky lids by using a blendable liner, like Elizabeth Arden Smoky Eye Powder Pencil in Midnight Black.
Alcohol is a double edged sword. The truth comes out and you have to forgive the person speaking under the influence of it. They say someone speaks the truth when they're drunk. I'm not going to lie, I'm drunk a lot. However, I'm 100% Irish, people don't even know I'm drunk (until I try to walk.) There's an Irish gene that absorbs a lot of the alcohol. Maybe it is potato based?
It can make you feel so good and the other person "not so good." AND NOW I RANT. Shit, where's the potato when you need it?
I went to the wedding of my bestfriend, since I was 15 years old. My famiy is nuts. His family is not. They adopted me. They didn't legally adopt me. However, I was a lot sad with my current family situation (the one I was born into) and this family took me in. Much like I take in stray dogs.
I knew the Grandpa's and Grandma's. I knew the siblings. I LOVED THEM. To this day, they are my blood.
This was the Beaver Cleaver Family. Mom was always making sure everyone was happy. Dad knew everything about everything.
I was popular. Joe was not. A number "Joe" was left on my floor (I called it. We talked for 3 hours.) During the entire call I said "YOU ARE AMAZING"! Joe just needed some self confidence. Lucky for him, I recognize greatness in people. He was greatness. I also had an abundance of self confidence (what you realize early on is that no one is going to champion you, if you don't champion you. You get good at it.) Joe is smart and sweet and really, really talented. He's a genius and just had a poor outlook on himself where everyone else saw a really good looking gem. Your childhood can determine your self-esteem and because he was a heavy kid, he always saw himself as "the fat kid." After years of teasing he wasn't willing to "put himself out there" (and who could blame him?) I would get him out of his town, bring him to my high school functions and all the girls would say "WHO IS THAT YOU'RE WITH?" Not one was thinking teasing thoughts. My guess is dirty ones...
My boyfriend was in college and "above" high school events. I proudly brought Joe as a stand-in to all of them.
He became my bestfriend.
Joe and I married the same year. He moved out to California. But we never saw each other much. His wife hated me. Although Joe and I never had a sexual realtionship. She wasn't OK with the fact that we had ANY relationship. Joe and I realized we were both in wrong relationships and divorced the same year as each other.
Joe contacted me through facebook and we tried to schedule a meet up. You all know my schedule is hectic. He wrote "Please come to my wedding September 29th. My parents would love to see you. I went. It was gorgeous. I'm so proud of Joe.
This isn't a post bashing Joe's Dad. He was my "dad" through a lot of my life and I love him. It's a post on how time goes on and the tables turn. The pretty, popular girl can do a lot. Unfortunately, I can't stop time.
It was towards the end of the night and Joe's dad had a few. As we all do. And I know he didn't mean this to be mean. He was just saying what was on his mind. He cares about me and I'm sure it came out wrong. He looked at me and said "Megan you need to find stability, you need to find someone that wants to be with you. You need to do it soon, because you're not young anymore and you're going to lose your looks." That's a fatherly advice thing to say. I know this and I respect him but I'm not going to lie. It sucked.
I replied "I know, I'm just working on a lot of projects right now and I'm busy. But I will..."
He just looked at me, shook his head and said "but you don't have a lot of time left."
I then called a cab. The irony of being at my friend's wedding who had all sorts of self esteem issues as a kid, yet flourished into an amazing male adult wasn't lost on me. I had so much self esteem as a kid, yet as a single 36 year old woman, where did it go? Why (I know he said it with the best intentions) was I reduced to feeling like there was a ticker on my attractiveness and self worth?
Meg here and I'm back from Paris! It was great and I thought I was doing really well on the jetlag except I wrote this entire post out and I was actually funny and clever! I swear I was! And then I promptly closed the window before saving it. So maybe I am a little jetlagged. I am sure I am not going to be as clever or funny this time. Jokes are never good the second time around.
Eyebrows, you need to take care of them. If your "eyes are the window to the soul." Then you can't have shoddy shutters. When I was in Jr. high, I decided it was a really good look to pluck my eyebrows into a severe thin line. I thank God they grew back. There must have been something in the water because my bestfriend bleached hers later that year. We weren't emo or punk or even in the drama club. She just bleached them to a level of invisible off her face because she thought it would help pull out her highlights. It's not just a tale of teenagers, years later I was on a model shoot and the makeup artist significantly shaved a ton of my right brow off. I didn't notice until hours later when I was home to wash my face. At least I can take comfort that I didn't shave off my own eyebrows, unlike Molly Ringwald who did that very thing in high school.
Brooke Shields, Frida Kahlo, my dog Prudence. Eyebrows are a big factor, they frame the face, make you appear more youthful and open up your eyes.
Revlon Brow Fantasy is a great 1, 2 Pow! The color is natural, it applies gentlyand it stays. The sheer setting gel on the end will keep your brows perfectly in place. Now you don't need to worry about blinding yourself with hairspray!
