My makeup friends (view all 4 friends):

I can't live without this product... | Foundation is one of the most important things for looking good in my opinion! I always splurge on it because it is so worth it. I just bought this foundation for the first time last month. INCREDIBLE! It is so smooth, I don't even know how to describe it, like SILK! I have always worn Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation, which is about half the price, but almost as great. The differences:
Double Wear - $32.50, lasts through anything. I'm not kidding. You can sleep in it and have full coverage the next morning. The only downside is that if you are acne-prone you need to be VERY thorough taking it off at night. The longest lasting, best coverage I have ever found until...
Re-Nutriv - $65, I live in the midwest, so even when I worked for Estee Lauder I wasn't able to try this because they didn't stock it in stores by us. Last month though, I discovered it at the other counter in my city! I told the sales girl "This is bad, bad, bad... for my budget!"
I tried it on and was instantly sold. It feels like your favorite skin cream when you put it on, your skin looks flawless, and it lasts quite a while - although not as long as Double Wear, which is why I have them at a tie, almost! The thing about the Re-Nutriv that makes it my top pick is: it is anti-aging foundation! And Estee Lauder knows how to do anti-aging! Geez I still sound like their sales person! When I worked for them though, it completely sold me on their foundation. I'm not quite as loyal with the other products, but this stuff, well, I can't live without it!
I like "Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Foundation" (Others who like it too...none yet) Leave a comment or review | No reviews or comments |
I wouldn't die, but I would suffer greatly without this product... Estee Lauder Double Wear Powder | I just started using this stuff when I bought the Re-Nutriv foundation for two reasons.
#1: I couldn't stand the thought of letting go of my Double Wear! I wanted something I could use for touch ups during the day anyway.
#2: Re-Nutriv is made for normal/dry skin (skin is usually this type when the effects of aging really start to set in). Although my skin is typically normal, and I don't quite have signs of aging yet (I'm preparing!), the foundation shows up a little oily. The Double Wear powder balances it to PERFECTION!

Without this product, I'd have to start drinking at noon ;-) ... St. Ives Apricot Scrub | This is a classic! I don't use it daily anymore, I did when I was younger and had to fight my acne harder, but I love it for a couple times a week to freshen up my skin and keep that acne at bay!
I didn't know they had that new "Elements" line until I saw the review you girls did in April, I'm definately going to have to put that on my list!

My secret beauty recipe and best makeup tips... Oh boy... so many!
Exfoliating is sooo important! Body and face... I make my own scrubs to save $$ and have them exactly the way I want (sugar for incredibly smooth skin, coffee grounds because caffeine helps get rid of cellulite, baby oil so my skin doesn't dry out, and essential oils for aromatherapy!).
I don't tan anymore because I figured it was stupid to reverse all the $$ I spend on skin products! I absolutely love Dove's Summer Glow Tanning lotion; I've never got a streak from it and it's CHEAP. I buy in bulk :)
I save $$ wherever I can so I can splurge on the most important things! My next adventure... making homeade skin care products that have the same ingredients as the ones at the store - but I can make them at a higher concentrate.
Oh! One more thing... I used to work for Estee Lauder (awesome!) and I sold Mary Kay for a while (not so awesome). I like helping people bring out their beauty potential. Self confidence is so attractive. How long does it really take me to get ready? What's my beauty routine? Oooh... in the AM before work about an hour. That usually doesnt include my makeup because I do that on the drive or in the bathroom when I arrive. I'm terrible at getting out the door in time! I've gotten incredible at driving (a stick shift) and applying foundation, mascara, everything... I have yet to crash. At night when I have time probably 2 hours average. While Meg's mom used to give her at-home perms, my most mortifying makeup moment is... Sooo many. Especially with my hair! I love how it seems that EVERYONE here started their hair dying addiction in the teen years with "Sun In"! I of course did that and had the typical, um, not so lovely, results.
In high school I did some pretty horrible things to my hair: a new stylist kept chopping and chopping until I looked like a boy, I turned it brassy red, a month later added black tips (beleive it or not I started a trend, and I still don't know why), then I wanted blonde again so I had to strip it (ugh!) and had straw on my head for years as it grew out.
I finally learned my box color lesson when burnette trying to go blonde = purple. So now I always splurge on my hair!My celebrity doppelganger (or so I'm told sometimes) is... Amanda Bynes :)
Britney Spears :(

roxtarchic says, haha... you waddle in flats... i trip... literally... i'm not the most balanced (mentally OR physically) on a GOOD day but you put me in flats.. and i'm just headed for a wipe out... it's a well known ongoing joke... just ask the security guy at my office building he's witnessed more of my feats of physical hilarity more than anyone else... and yeah... he sometimes chuckles as i (try to) walk by! hahaha
champ3377 says, P.S.: Don't make me hit you out of jealousy (kidding)! I just read your profile again. St. Ives DOES have wonderful items for a pittance--great choice on your part. You make your own beauty items? Many models and actresses suggest doing the same thing. Mineral oil is an important ingredient in the majority of cosmetics--it works. I sometimes use raw oatmeal as a scrub to exfoliate my skin gently. You are one BRILLIANT woman!
champ3377 says, Dear Angie, I wish I were as wise at my age as you are at yours. Self-confidence is KEY to beauty and far too many women are certain that items in containers will change them miraculously (so wrong). I've often studied women who were touted as being the most gorgeous in the world--they weren't necessarily beautiful, but they felt that way about themselves and everyone else believed it! Happiness brings beauty, so love your life, count your blessings, and it will show (I started my job this year and, since I enjoy it so much, I've probably had twenty people ask why I look radiant, even in the supermarket with little or no makeup and my hair pulled back; I'm not doing anything different but feel like a new woman.) Wow, do you have your "head on straight." I wish you could talk to my students and explain it to the girls. When it comes from a teacher, they're skeptical. When it comes from someone else, they'll generally listen. Ah, smokey eyes--as some other reviewers have said, they can be done in ANY color (you already knew that, I'm sure). Lots of choices here. I'm just discovering the world of mineral shadows and I LOVE the control I have over the intensity of pigment applied. Right again, Angie--with fair skin, you don't want to overdo and look garish. Bare Escentuals offers a "Get-Started" shadow kit (find it at Sephora for $49), with shadows which range from peach to soft brown and rich chocolate/raisin. It's not cheap, but they offer step-by-step instructions and GREAT brushes (which, as you also most likely are aware, are crucial tools). I have only one question about this item (I have many of their other shades and am smitten): It comes with peach hues, and certain tones of peach can make you wind up looking like you have an eye infection if the undertone isn't just right. If you buy these, please make sure they can be returned. I like Pop Beauty's "Smokey Eyes" palette (lots of shades here for $32); they blend easily and are finely milled. There are sultry dark shadows in a variety of tones (sapphire blue, plum, violet, green, etc.) and others for contrast like "Nude Glow," "Opal Glow," and "Sparkling White." Again, invest in good brushes for best results (hint: you can visit a craft store and pick up delicate artists' brushes for less than you pay for cosmetic types)! These have a gentle sheen, and it's not overwhelming. If you want others with shimmer (at your young age, it can be especially effective), opt for something like Physicians Formula "Baked Minerals," a trio of colors (silvery/grey, deeper grey, and almost-black along with trios in brown and more) which can be used wet or dry depending on the look you're trying to achieve. The price is reasonable. I like Milani's "Runway Eyes" (around $5 or $6), and they are sold in virtually every hue. They are luminous and incredibly soft. In fact, they are so soft that you can't take them with you in your purse and must handle with care--they tend to break easily and I've written Milani about my disappointment with that. I am SO SORRY about rambling (write back and I won't do it again). I started selling Avon in high school, went on to modeling school, and wound up so highly involved with makeup that it's hard to shutup. But I'll shutup and thank you for your patience with me! God Bless, Gigi
sweetassgal says, I'm so glad you are trying the conditioning bonnet...the heat it delivers REALLY gets you a deep down condition. Let me know how it goes. It's great to have a fellow SATC lover...before that show I thought I was the only insane shoe addict that sat around discussing vag troubles and mens ahem...proportions...with their friends. We are NOT alone! God bless you SJP.

sweetassgal says, Hey there...nice to have another Angie on board! You mentioned in your comment to my review that your hair is incredibly damaged. I went through a repairing stage as well and here's what I recommend. Go to www.jessicurl.com, look under products, accessories...and get the microhaircap. Once a week absolutely DRENCH your hair in an intense conditioner (I love Ojon, Frederic Fekkai, or Jonathan) and put the cap on. Leave it in for about a half hour and then rinse out (making sure the water isn't too hot...that strips your hair). Let your hair airdry over night (don't blowdry) and in the morning your hair will feel SO much better. A few weeks of this and you've got some GORGEOUS tresses. It's all about conditioning. Just remember not to use any hair products that contain alcohol, don't overwash your hair and always, always use a non-greasy leave in conditioner with your styling products. SO glad to have you join us...take care and GLAM ON!
champ3377 says, Roxtarchic picked up on the same line I did--I agree that self-confidence is the most alluring, sexy quality a woman can have. Oh, tell me about cosmetics--so little time, so many products! Give me a price range for a smokey grey palette and I can probably give you suggestions. (By the way, also a fan of Estee Lauder!)
roxtarchic says, thank you SO much for the compliments (you're a hottie yourself & i see more amanda than brit so dont worry)... and i love your profile btw... confidence IS the most attractive thing i agree... I also am w/you w/the scrubs... i love throwing together my own recipes w/oils & scrubs & more oils! have you tried using jojoba oil or almond oil... in your scrubs i think they sink into your skin soooo amazingly! (i like jojoba oil from trader joes, its sooo cheap)! and thanks for makin me feel so welcome!
