SPONSORED POST-THE BEAUTY SECRETS OF HONEY! YUP, THE SAME HONEY THAT'S IN YOUR KITCHEN! SECRETS WITH OLE HENRIKSEN!

Meg here! Yes, that is a photo of me in disbelief after touching how incredibly soft my face was with the great Ole Henriksen. His fabulous esthetician Xavier made my face incredible after Ole Henriksen's signature soothing honey facial.
Ole Henriksen? Celebrity facialist to the stars (Katy Perry, Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlberg, Naomi Campbell etc.) and the secret ingredient is honey!? Read on!
The National Honey Board was kind enough to send myself and a few other beauty writers off to the famed Ole Henriksen Spa in West Hollywood to learn about the beauty powers of honey. This was not my first trip! Anyone that's spent time on Megsmakeup.com knows what a huge Ole Henriksen fan I am. His Truth Serum is so amazing, his African Red Tea Indulgent Body Mask (uses honey) Sugar Glow Face Scrub (uses honey) and many of his A-List custom facials use honey. Once you realize what a huge honey advocate Henriksen is, it makes perfect sense to learn all of its benefits from the Skin Guru himself.
Ole Henriksen grew up in a very small village to a working class family that didn't have a lot of money. As a treat, Ole's mom would add honey to his milk as a special treat. It brings a lot of warm memories back to him and he is an expert on its skin saving properties.
Honey is a natural humectant (it attracts and retains moisture) which makes a perfect, natural ingredient for cleansers, creams, shampoos and conditioners. It also has a ton of soothing antibacterial properties and it's an antioxidant! oh, and it's super inexpensive and you probably already have it in your kitchen. So there's that as well.
Summertime is here and the harmful rays can really do a number on our skin. Here are some easy, soothing recipes that are effective, healing and have been around for ages. Literally, Cleopatra (the Oprah of her time) was a fan and if it's good enough for the "Cleopatra's Favorite Things..."

Here is the step by step, homemade way that you too can experience the Hollywood Guru's popular Honey Facial Treatment. Make a batch in tupperware and these ingredients can be pulled out once a week for a month! I was amazed at how soft Ole's model's skin was! Honey? Who knew?
Light some candles, turn on your music and apply! Anyone can do this (that's coming from someone that barely boils water!)
Step 1: COMPRESS: LAVENDER FACIAL
Warm Water
2 Teaspoons Lavender Essential Oil
Fill sink one-third full of warm water and add lavender essential oil. Stir and inhale the wonderful aroma to induce relaxation. Create a spa environment. Drench a terry cloth towel in lavender water, lightly squeeze out excess water and press firmly against your face for 10 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
Step 2: CLEANSE: HONEY YOGURT PURIFYING CLEANSER
4 Tablespoon Yogurt
2 Tablespoons Honey
2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Pat cleanser onto your face with an upward circular motion for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse with lavender water.
Step 3: RE-TEXTURING DEEP CLEANSING HONEY AND FLAXSEED SCRUB
1 Ounce Flaxseed Meal
1 Ounce Almond Oil
1 Tablespoon Honey
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl; allow to sit for a few minutes. Pat scrub onto your face using upward circular motions for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse with lavender water from sink.
TIP: Use two middle fingers to work scrub into crevices around your nose and chin.
Step 4: MOISTURIZING MASK-OATMEAL CALMATIVE MILK AND HONEY
1/2 Cup Uncooked Oatmeal
1/2 Cup Water
1/2 Cup Milk
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Unwaxed Cucumber
Grind oatmeal in a blender. In a smal saucepan over medium heat, cook oatmeal, water, milk and honey for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring frequently with a spatula or spoon. Remove from heat and allow to cool. If necessary, add a little more water to ensure mask is thick but not runny. Grate cucumber and place on a long piece of cheesecloth the width of temple to temple; roll up like a sushi roll.
Massage a thick layer of plain honey all over your faceand neck before applying mask. Apply mask to your face with upward strokes. Lie down, place cucumber roll over your eyes and relax for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
STEP 5: HEALING APPLICATION-LAVENDER COMPLEXION OIL
1 Ounce Almond Oil
1 Teaspoon Lavender Essential Oil
Mix oils in a small cup or bowl. Place a dime-sized amount on damp palms and massage into your skin for 1 to 2 minutes.
STEP 6: FABULOUS!!!!
Your skin is glowing, top off with your SPF and now you have a perfect base for your makeup! This is a great Sunday night ritual! It's really not hard to do, once you have the prep done you have a Hollywood signature treatment ready to go!
It makes sense to get a batch of this ready because you know you're going to be out in the elements! From the wise words of Benjamin Franklin "Tart words make no friends, a spoonful of honey will catch more flies than a gallon of vinegar."
Honey has so many uses! What's your favorite at home recipe and have any of you been using the miracle of honey in your "getting glam" routine?

I tried using honey on my face once. I don't remember the recipe I used, but I do remember my face feeling smoother and my pores were smaller. I'm excited to try these recipes. I just love the smell of lavender.
Awesome recipes! I love using honey in skincare recipes.
My favorite homemade recipe involves vodka and I don't use it on my face. What a waste of good vodka! You have provided a fab set of recipes for those of us who like a really fresh and natural alternative. I am a fan of OH. His red tea cleanseris a favorite of mine. A very underrated line of products in my opinion. And I will try not to post this multiple times.
I had an aethetician tell me once to scrub with a mixture of honey and seasalt... sloughs off dead skin.

I love DIY recipes like this! But I'm afraid to buy honey these days - have you all heard about counterfeit honey in the news? It's not a joke! There was a story in the UK about counterfeit honey that contained traces of veterinary medicine! We just don't know what we're buying anymore
Wow, thanks for the awesome ideas of how to use honey! My hub is so big on honey. He loves it on toast, pancakes, oatmeal, etc. All the normal stuff. But I've yet to try it on my face all by myself. I have had it in a facial at some point -- I think when I was in Thialand once. These recipes sound lovely!

I actually have been using honey on my face the last few months. I just made a batch of homemade face mask tonight actually. It has 1 avocado, 2 Tb honey, 1 egg yolk, and some coffee grounds for exfoliation. I love making my own recipes at home :) Thanks for the new ones to try. Sometimes I just use honey on my face, leave it on for an hour, and rinse it off.

I always add a little honey when I make my homemade bath scrub. I'll have to try the RE-TEXTURING DEEP CLEANSING HONEY AND FLAXSEED SCRUB. I'm know I have almond oil and honey and I'm pretty sure I also already have flaxseed at home! Love finding recipes I can try out instantly without heading to the store.
