JASON'S JOJOBA LONG & STRONG SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER!
Stacy B here! Ladies, I need a haircut. Bad. Like: ponytails give me headaches because my hair is so thick and long, bad. It's been a tough combination of a very busy fall with toddlers and traveling husbands and first trimester exhaustion, and extra thick, faster growing hair from all the pregnancy hormones and extra vitamins. It's really unbelievable how much hair I have. I could give away half and you'd never know. I'm up to almost 35 minutes to dry it in the mornings now, thanks in part to a dying hairdryer that has less power than a sneeze.
Luckily, I'm in my second trimester and the energy is back so I went to work to fix this mane I've been lugging around. A new salon-quality, tourmeline, ionic hairdryer arrived on my doorstep today (thanks Overstock.com for saving me almost $50!) I have a hair appointment on Saturday, and thanks to this unusually mild, rainy November weather, there's just enough humidity for curly hair days.
I've been trying to avoid product buildup with all my excess hair so I went right for an all natural, no sulfates or parabens, organic shampoo. I chose Jason's Jojoba Long & Strong Shampoo and Conditioner. I think I should have chosen their 'Smoothing Sea Kelp" version instead.
I need a smoothing shampoo, especially now, so while I did like this shampoo, it wasn't good for every day use for me. Before you think this is a negative review, let me explain the good things that might apply to those of you with a normal amount of hair. There's the obvious: all-natural, no parabens, no animal testing. But, it also uses vegetable proteins and natural vitamins and minerals and no animal bi-products to moisturize and heal your hair.
The shampoo rinsed clean, smelled fresh, and the conditioner was not too thick or thin and actually made it through my mop of hair. The shampoo could use a little more bubble action. I like a lot of bubbles, but it got the job done. But, after about four days, I noticed my hair was not drying as straight and smooth and I needed to use my flat iron more. It still felt clean, but it was starting to get a little sticky (you thick haired girls will know what I mean!) My Giovanni Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum was working overtime! And I was using more of it which I don't like to do.
I had to go back to my normal smoothing shampoo and conditioner to settle it down (no sneak peaks here, I'll review those products for you another time!) What I found was this was a great clarifying shampoo for me. I started to use it on lazy Sundays when I didn't have to worry about drying or smoothing or anything. It helped my hair feel lighter and cleaner so when I went back to my normal shampoo, it seemed to help those products work even better.
The bottles are generous so if I use this 1-2 times a week, this will last me a really long time. Bottom line is that while this is not a good everyday shampoo for me, the amount of hair I have makes me the exception. I think a lot of you girls with a regular amount of hair that are concerned about chemicals and build up might really like this. I will continue to use this as my cleansing and clarifying trick a few times a week.
Have any of you tried Jason products?

I do love overstock.com... Buy all my sheets there too. 800 tc egyptian cotton for like $40.I do love the word jojoba (I can't be the only one), but you're right, shampoos that don't bubble enough just aren't worth it in general.
Always love these drug store reviews, opens my eyes to products I may not otherwise think to try!!Thanks for your honest review!!
the 'Smoothing Sea Kelp' version, imo is a little better
Thanks for the heads up for us thick hair girls. I am getting my long hair chopped off next Saturday. There is so much of it that I don't even bother trying to dry it. I am always looking for a good smoothing shampoo/conditioner. I am curious to know your everyday choice is.
Overstock is the place I go to to buy bedding. So affordable and great quality.I've tried a few of the Jason products but not shampoo/conditioner though.
Love Overstock when I am sure of the product, but returns are a pain. Get lots of bedding items there. I am having trouble finding a full line of Jason products anywhere including Target. The organic shampoos don't lather like their chemical laden cousins, something I learned on another site when one poster scolded another about that! I change up my shampoo every time I wash my hair which is every other day. I would give this a try. And Stacy if you need someone to take that thick hair off your shoulders (so to speak) send it my way! T
Thanks for the review, I've been curious about Jason products. I like to use good ol Pantene Volumizing shampoo and conditioner for my thick hair, and then once a week I use either baking soda mixed in with the shampoo or a good clarifying shampoo to get the build up out. Baking soda really does the trick though, and for cheap!

I was suffering last week from pretty bad product buildup. My hair just felt like crap. Then I remembered about rinsing my hair with vinegar, yep, just regular white distilled vinegar. I took a cup with me into the shower and after washing, no conditioner, I doused my head with the vinegar and let it sit on my hair for a few minutes. I swear to you my hair was softer than it's been in a LONG time and felt absolutely clean, no product whatsoever, and I didn't use conditioner or ANY styling product. Just let it air dry. Nothing makes my hair feel softer and cleaner than doing a vinegar rinse.

I totally know what you mean about having hair so thick and heavy ponytails give you a headache! It's time for me to get my hair cut, too, because my ponytail is getting too heavy and my ends are getting dry. I hear good things about Jason's line of products but am just using a cheap off-brand for shampoo and conditioner right now as my hair is generally fairly low-maintenance.
I haven't ever tried Jason's, but I used to use Burt's Bees shampoos and conditioners religiously. But I found that the lather just wasn't very satisfying, like you said, and really they couldn't compare with other shampoos and conditioners, even ones that cost less! I'd love to find a natural option that works WELL!

Oh man, my hair dried terribly today. I showered at my mother's place and had to use her hairbrush, which pulls my hair down all flat and doesn't make it through to the bottom layers. So now I have flat-top puffy hair going on. Great. That said, winter! Winter does call for a change of hair products. My dry hands are already experiencing the benefit of Udderly Smooth Udder Cream (their packaging cracks me up), so I should treat my hair to some winter-appropriate products as well! Unfortunately I'm more inclined to use thicker, heavier products for winter, which does mean I have use for clarifying shampoos. I'll give this a look next time I'm at Whole Foods. (I have seen this there, right?)
I love Overstock.com too! I buy my bedding and sometimes earrings on there. It's also a really good place for some beauty products.
I like Jason products a LOT, so I might try this. I haven't shopped through that section of Target in a while so I will check it out. Thanks for the review and I look forward to reading your next review on smoothing shampoo and conditioner
Vitacost.com is a good place to find Jason products at great prices. :)
I've never tried any Jason products :/
This sounds pretty awesome - I'm a "fine, but lots of it!" head. Stuff that doesn't weigh my hair down but still gets to all of it is important.

You say thick, big hair like it's a bad thing! I love having thick, big hair and I do anything and everything to increase the thickness of it!! I guess it's my Indian sense of beauty talking..hmm..suddenly getting pregnant doesnt seem so bad...
Thanks for the honest review there. Although, I think having extra thick hair is definitely a blessing! Ask someone who is facing hair fall like nobody's business (especially post partum). Guess getting preggers is the solution!!!
this sounds like a great idea!! switching up the shampoos!! i might have to look into this!!
Thanks for the honest review. I like to switch up shampoos on the weekend, take a break from my regular shampoo.
I like the fact that it lightens your hair's load! I definitely need that.
never tries these before

I have uber thick hair so it is good to know that this was not the best choice for everyday.. I might try one of the other ones from jason's love thier philosophy as a brand!
Thanks for the review!

Sounds yummy and affordable, I will look out for this one for sure!!!xoxo pt
I have to switch up shampoos as well. I think I am sensitive to sulfates as my scalp breaks out if I use them too much so I have to rotate in sulfate free. They dont' lather much either. I have used Jason's tea tree shampoo but not tried anything else. Thanks for the heads up!

i've never tried any of jason's products i've never heard of it before, but i've heard a lot of great things about jojoba oil!

I've never tried Jason shampoo, I'm still to addicted to Brocato to switch, since my scalp is so sentive and it works so well for me.
Thanks for looking at the product from a couple different points of view. I used to think that having tons of hair meant more work, but my friends with thin hair have to work a lot harder than I do. They want thick hair so badly, because you have more options. Also, a good hair stylist can help with shaping your hair in a way that it's not so heavy, even if you keep it long.
my hair texture has changed SO much since I had my son... Smooth would be nice to have again. I like a lot of Jason products. I may give this a try.
I like lather in my shampoo although I know that more lather doesn't mean better. So I'm not really a fan of the more natural shampoos with lesser lather. I do switch between a clarifying and normal shampoo as I think it allows my hair to appear to be in a better condition.
i really need this! i should buy it:DD
I'm a huge believer and user of Jason products. I like their normal jojoba s&c as well as the Henna hi-lights s&c. I'm currently using Renpure Organics(moisturizing), I think I will check out the long & strong when i'm done. I have a lot of hair as well it has a little wave to is however straight for the most part. Thank you so much for the review!
Interesting product! I just started using Aussie hair care, but I might try this when I run out!
xoxo
I've tried Jason but can't remember being wowed by anything
I have never tried Jason.
I have really fine and oily hair. If I use a shampoo that doesn't lather well, then my hair never feels clean and it gets oily pretty quickly.
I've never tried any of Jason products, but thanks for the heads up!
Nevertried...
I have never tried anything from Jason but that is a fantastic deal. Overstock has great deals. I'll be looking into this shampoo.
I actually haven't tried any Jason products, even though I've seen them pretty often in stores. I may have to give them a try!
I recently suffered through a really really bad perm. My friends talked me into it and it is just a big frizzy mess no matter how i straighten, slick, or add product. Anti frizz serum is not standing a chance right now. After my hair normalizes again I will have to look into Jason brand it sounds fantastic.

I've never tried any Jason products. But this sounds good. I do like jojoba oil.
I totally need this! I've heard wonderful things about Jason's.
