MAYBELLINE! BABY LIPS!
Stacy B here! I think last week I spoke about a freak snowstorm in October and now here I am in short sleeves with a window open in my house in almost mid-November. I definitely love this unusual weather better than two weeks ago! There's nothing quite like a surprise warm day (or two) during a month when it's supposed to be cold. It's like a gift! Moods are up, people are outside again getting a little more fresh air and I save a little on the heating bill for the month!
But, don't be fooled into thinking it's summer-like warmth. Almost 70 in November is very different from 70 in June or September. There's no moisture in the air so it feels a bit cooler and it's very dry. I had a few static moments with my hair today and I am getting a little more dry skin around my nose and eyes. A few weeks ago I picked up a new lip conditioner from Maybelline in preparation for the dry weather. I'm reviewing Baby Lips this week to try and heal a few bits of dry spots on my lips and to prevent more from coming.
This is supposed to keep your lips moisturized for up to 8 hours, and while on, should help your lips restore healthy skin and moisture levels. And, it's SPF 20. Which I laugh about in New England. I know, I know, SPF every day, blah blah blah, but really, it's the north east, do you know how far away the sun is getting from us right now? I admit to failing on the SPF applications for about 5 months of the year. (don't hurt me!).
It also promises to fully restore lips in as little as 4 weeks. That's a tall order for such a small lip balm. I haven't been using this for quite 4 weeks but I think I have a good idea of how well it works. First, it doesn't quite last 8 hours, but through a normal day of talking and eating and kissing if you're lucky, it lasted a good chunk of time. I reapplied after lunch. Second, I have no sunburned lips. So it must have worked, right? ;) Someone in Florida or Texas back me up on that please.
I did notice that my lips were smooth and the few dry spots were healed. But, other lip balms have worked just as well for me. It was a little more liquid-y than I like. It almost had a serum feel when I first put it on. I wasn't crazy about that. It wasn't sticky, no hair on the lips after a wind gust, but my lips felt a little...slippery? Slick? Not sure of the right word, but I like balms to be a little thicker.
It came in clear and a few other shades. Here's a picky preference I have. I don't want colored balms. That's what lipsticks and glosses are for. Some people like it, it's a two-in-one product, but I don't. I want to be able to stick a lip balm in my pocket or bag and slap in on whenever I need it without having to worry about color being all over my face or something. The colors weren't really deep, but they were noticeable and I don't like that. I stuck with the clear one.
It's about $4, which is cheap, but Chapstick is less than half that and does the job for me just as well. Plus, if I lose a Chapstick, I'm out less than $2. I guess for me, I could take it or leave it.
Has anyone tried this? What's your favorite lip balm for colder weather?

I agree - Chapstick works for me, and they come in multi-packs so I can have one in the bathroom, one in my desk, one in my purse... etc. Thanks for the tip!
I LOVE Babylips. I bought the 2 that don't have color and I prefer them to the far more pricey Fresh lip balm. I don't like Chapstick - it dries out my lips and I don't like the way it feels. Baby Lips is one fourth the price of the Fresh, goes on smooth. feels great on the lips and has SPF. Actually I am going to go throw one in my travel bag. I am headed to NY for the weekend.
Blistex Lip Tone with spf 15 -- the first lip balm that worked for me. I hate it when my lips go into "withdrawal" mode (becomes even drier than normal) when I didn't reapply the lip balm. I get that a lot from other balms, but not Blistex lip tone
I also like the lip balms from Silk Naturals, but I've not road tested them in cold/dry climates.
I like good ole' chapstick. I really need that SPF too given that I live at a really high altitude. Though the real reason is I lose my balm at least once a week and I just don't want to be losing something pricey when I can use something cheap.
I like the Baby Lips a lot, it smells great, looks great and works great. Me likey!
I'm usually a high end lip balm girl - tinted, non-tinted, I love em ALL :) My favorites are Buxom Portofino, Fresh Sugar Plum, and Chapstick Fresh Effects green tea and mint. I swear this chapstick is a dupe for the much more $$ La Mer lip balm. It's creamy and smooth and oh so yummy! the best part???n I don't have a mini meltdown if I loose a tube the way that I did with the La Mer.
I was really interested in these until I learned that they weren't scented/flavored like their names suggest. After that, the pull just wasn't there. I have a lot of clear balms that I enjoy that have scent/flavor and SPF. I'm not always a big fan of colored balms either. Most of the time, I don't wear colored lip products (although I'm doing so more often now). I am a bit obsessive about applying balm (I tend to want to always fidget with something, and lip balm falls into that category), so colored balms can be a bit of a pain.
I use Vermont's Original Bag Balm as a lip balm. It's used by farmers to protect cattle utters in the winter months, as well as to sooth cuts and burns. It works AMAZINGLY on lips. Its made to stand up to dry vermont winters so it last a long time on lips and leaves them moisturized. I use it on mosquito bites as well and it stops the itching fairly well. I even used in on my dogs nose when he got a scrap. And the best part? It costs around 8 dollars for a large jar that will last you years. I've had mine for 2 years and have barely used half of it. It comes in a mini size too for your purse. I just refill an old blistex balm container and carry it with me everywhere!
These are actually ok. I really like the purple one (grape?) and the peach kiss one. The pink one is a bit bright, and so's the red.

Nivea lip balm is my lip saver. Blistex would be the 2nd runner up.
Bath and body works use to have this amazing lip gloss/lip plumper that made my lips all tingly it was the best stuff ever, it made my lips super soft and was long lasting. will have to try this stuff tho. i live in utah with cold winters and super dry air. need to find the perfect product to protect pronto!!!
Thanks for your review, this doesn't sound like anything I'm going to run out and purchase right away!!
I have a bunch of different balms/treatments in every purse, desk, bedside, etc., so that I'm never without one nearby. Right now I'm wearing Avon Moisture Therapy (the one that's more of a liquid instead of the stick balm). It's OK, but nothing to get excited about.
I was actually meaning to purchase this one. Thanks to your tip, I think I will stick to my regular balm/chapstick :)
My personal favorite balm is EOS in Lemon Drop. It has a nice lemon scent & SPF. Works wonders. I do want to try the baby lips, though. I too like by balms clear. They are easier to apply that way without having to dig out the mirror.
I went and bought them when they first came out. I loveee the smell it's delicious! but to be honest, I prefer blistex... I feel that babybalm is not as long lasting and moisturising for me.

I personally like Chapstick... it's cheap and works well. I've tried other lip balms that are more expensive but they didn't seem to do any better than Chapstick so for a simple lip balm I'm sticking with what I have. :)
Nice review, thanks! This product seemed interesting to me except I would worry that the balm wasn't tinted enough, and I do love SoftLips for untinted lip balm. I love Eyeko's Fat Balm too (lots of color options), but it's been discontinued.
I like the pretty packaging, so cute. I m loving the EOS one i got still it is lasting aaagessss.. hopefully i can lose it soon. lol
who loves makeup? me me ME!
Suprised...I bought this (the blue case with the grape scent) a couple of weeks ago after reading about it and LOVE IT!!! It's a wonderful "sit around with the boy and watch TV" lip blam as it does give a hint of color and has a nice grape-jello scent and taste that is fun for smooching! I have clear products to plump and if your lips are seriously dry and flaky? There is NOTHING that will fix them faster than an overnight application of Elizabeth Arden's celebrated 8 Hour Cream,I promise! I really enjoy this little plastic tube and bought a few more for stocking stuffers...it reminds me of my early "Bonne Belle Lip Smacker" days and it's really a nice product IMHO to have on hand...my husband however swears by Carmex:)
I'm always on the lookout for a new lip balm. This doesn't sound like anything spectacular, so I think I'll skip it. I do think I'd like this a little more than you did, though-- I like that liquidy feel in a lip balm, not because it feels pleasant (it doesn't) but because my lips are exceedingly dry, and slipperier balms tend to last longer than more solid ones. (I love the little ball-shaped EOS balms, but they're too waxy-- they only last about half an hour!) And I love color in my lip balms. I don't usually wear lip color, so I don't have to worry about it clashing or anything. I just like there to be a hint of healthy flush in my lips.
Sounds like this would be worth a try. Although the price is high, it's not too high compared to the Burt's Bees lip balm.

I may try it if it is on sale but I love my chapstick. And on this weather. I am not sure. I hope this does not lead to another 60+ " of snow in a short amount of time. Gotta love MA
I've been meaning to get this but I also forget about it every time I'm at the drug store. I usually just stick to Carmax, Vaseline, or Yes to Carrot's chapstick.
Great article- been using lots of different brands for my lip balm, including EOS, burt's bees, yes to carrots and some new ones- crazy humor, bubble & bee and sprout! I'd rather stick with products that use natural ingredients and oils. The packaging is cute.

I cannot get enough of lip balm. Especially the tinted kind, its my new obsession!
Wow I loved the packing =)))

I have not tried these, although I do love tinted balms. Since I don't always have the time to apply lipstick or gloss, I find it convenient to throw on a tinted lip balm and have both hydration and color.I thought I'd share a tip I came across the other day about how you can get these for free. Target has a $2 coupon on their site, so just print that. And hip2save.com has a $1 coupon for these. Target sells these for $2.99, so if you use both coupons it will be free.
I love the EOS balm and Burt's Bees so this isn't something I'd buy. I like lip balms to be all natural and minty, not colored or weird!
I might try this, I think it's on sale at Target this week and super cheap with a coupon. Thanks for the honest review, as always!

hmmm sounds ok...i might try it... thanks for the review
I bought this yesterday, loved it! my lips feel saved now winter is here!
I usually use burts bees.. but i saw these the other day they look cool! where are you? iam in NH so i hear ya with the snow && the warm! haha
I was going to purchase these but decided not to after reading some reviews on them.
i love the IDEA of tinted balms... because i'm SUCH a balm girl... but i'm way picky about my balms (hands down Holy Grail of all balms for me is Weleda Everon Balm), and every tinted balm i've tried has either migrated to creases in my lips, tastes like a$$ or smells like it. the closest i've found to a tinted balm that i like are Laura Merciers Stick Glosses.
I've only tried one lip balm that I didn't like. Nivea tinted cherry color. Forgot the exact product name. For some reason it really seemed like it dried out my lips, felt dry right after putting it on. It's weird because the same exact product in the un-tinted formula worked amazingly well. I'm not picky about my lip balms otherwise and I will use pretty much anything. Right now I'm using up an ELF moisturizing balm that I got a while back. I love it.

My fave balm for all times is from Dr. Hess
I use chapstick. I have them everywhere.
I've never tried this product, but I really want to.I generally use a Labello chapstick :)
I like carmex and avon lip balms. I actually have a ton of lip balms that I can't keep up which one is which. Haven't tried this one though.

right now i am loving my rose balm and it can be used anywhere with the added bonus of smelling like roses...
I have more chapstick then I could use in a lifetime and I rarely need it anyway.

I saw an ad for this the other day and really wanted to try it. I'm such a lip balm junkie because I have plenty of Chapsticks left and keep buying more!
We love you Maybel! This product looks yummy and SPF, you can't beat it.Thanks for the post, I will be sure to add this to the list.
I picked up one of these for the spf. I hate the way spf in mose lipsticks smell, so I was hoping to have this give me some color without the offensive scent. Worked!

I love using lip balm but without any color. Not sure about tinted because I only use untinted. It might be worth trying out one time!
I prefer natural lip balms so I'll skip this one.
i really want to try this but it doesn't sell anywhere close t where i live :(
Lip balms don't catch my attention, because I'm such a lipstick lover. As long as it's not sticky, I haven't found one that I would favor over another. I have a set from Burt's Bees that my brother gave me, they feel nice and not sticky.
