DOESN'T THIS BEDROOM SCREAM ROMANCE? YOU'LL LAUGH, I PROMISE YOU!
Meg here! I know New York City is not exactly an inexpensive place to live. I did it when I was 18 and I go to the city constantly. I feel like whenever I walk down the street I spent $200 and I can't even figure out what on. I grab a coffee, a sandwich, maybe take a cab and there it goes. Slight exaggeration but only slight. I know the rents are sky high as well and I'm not hating on Zach. I just could not stop laughing at Zach's decorating skills. My favorite part of this video? When Zach tells me "I'm not much of an interior decorator."
Who is Zach? Zach is a sweet, single 26 year old professional living in Manhattan. He lives with the friend that I was staying with for New York Fashion Week. You can hear my friend dying laughing while filming this with my iphone.
It was a quick video, but it died before I could show you all the piece de resistance, Zach's Budweiser Beer cardboard box shelf. Now that was something to see!
I haven't been 26 for quite a while and I haven't dated a 26 year old ever so I might be a little bit out of the loop. I know we have a lot of younger Meghead's on here so maybe you all can chime in, is this pretty much what you're expecting from your young, single boyfriend? Again, not being bitchy to Zach, he was a good sport but this room reminded of the caves they showed in Kabul while searching for Osama.
How about the towel in front of the bed? Is this a new trend?
I hope you ladies get a kick out of this. Let it load all the way before you watch and share some budget male friendly design tips for Zach, we know he's going to want to hear what you have to say!

LOL CRINGE! This takes me back to undergrad. Luckily no one I dated was quite this bad...
That is funny! I totally laughed because when I met my husband (at age 25), while he did have his own brand new house he just built, he lacked MAJORLY in the decorating department. His idea of a coffee table was an apple box upside down, WITH coasters to set your cups on (wouldn't want to ruin that nice piece of furniture!). And, to decorate his ugly tv stand, a piece of metal shrapnel he found while at drill one weekend. Needless to say, our house looks a ton better since I moved in, we even have a real coffee table now.

Oh and for decorating tips, check Craigslist for cheap nicer furniture or anything else to furnish your house really. There are good deals to be had if you have an idea in your head what you are looking for. Oh, and real curtains can be cheap and make a huge difference compared to sheets hanging on the window. ;)

You know, this totally reminds me of how my fiance/now husband's first apartment looked. We were just out of college and super poor, so he had the blanket covering the window just like Zach. He also had a computer desk made out of a cardboard box and a science fair project backboard. Thankfully we have a little more money now and I take care of the decorating. ;) My big tip for Zach would be... look on craigslist for stuff! We got some nice free stuff off of there for our house, and there are a ton of good deals on things like furniture, too.
I think it's kind of endearing. Zach isn't a player, otherwise he'd have a setup in his room. If I were dating Zach, this would make me feel kind of secure that he doesn't have a string of ladies in and out!
Funny! Poor Zac!
AWWW hahahah funny!! Aw Zac. That is so cute. He def needs a woman's touch. Mind you when i was a pore student, I also stapled a sheet to the window instead of buying curtains. lol! Welcome mat is hilllllarious!! totally jelo!
who loves makeup? me me ME!
This is a riot. You know no 26-year-old woman would live someplace that looked like that - they'd at least have a colorful throw on the bed or something.
"I'm not much of an interior decorator" is a huge overstatement. So Zach, if you do some shopping outside of your neighbor's cast-offs in the trash, try Overstock.com, World Market (online and store front), Ikea (take a ride to Jersey or the Island) and Bed Bath Beyond which IS in the city on 6th Avenue if not other places. Craig's List is great for furniture as are your parents. Can't wait til my kids have their own places!
Wow, cue the scary music! haha. I'm sure it's not all that atypical for a 26-year-old guy, though. Best wishes, Zach -- Extreme Makeover: Scary Apartment Bedroom Edition are on their way!

Hilarious!!!! Thanks for the laugh, Meg!!!

He is so endearing and cute!!
hahahahha iam 25.. and i try sooo hard to not be that.. but some times it just happens! haha
Awe, how cute! This made me laugh for sure! Right out of college I lived with 2 of my guy friends and our house was decorated in 'early college frat boy'. The couch had a hole in it, our living room decorations were mostly beer signs, and there was a horrendous duck lamp on the end table. None of us could afford much so that's how it stayed, and we did have parties so I didn't worry about stuff getting broken or spilled on. My room, however, was pretty cute although I didn't have a bed frame just like Zach doesn't :) For Zach I recommend Craig's list or thrift shops, you can get some good deals.

oh, that's so funny :) When I met my husband his room was pretty lacking in decor as well. We were in college, so it was a dorm room, so he did have furniture. But there was a black sheet over the window, lol, to make it extra dark so he could sleep in on the days he didn't have class.
Oh... oh man. Okay, so sure I'd be secure that he's not bringing a string of other ladies home. I'd be VERY secure. But I wouldn't at all be secure that he wasn't squatting! I'm in college, for goodness' sakes; I understand not having money to decorate. Craigslist is your friend, as is Goodwill and many other secondhand stores. Also, my friend just made curtains out of a flat sheet that had a lovely pattern on it, and it looks just as Martha Stewart as you could find at any home decorating store. Just... get a curtain rod. Or use a dowel if you don't want to buy one. Cut that sheet in half (or preferably a different one) and sew each half over the rod, and hem it, and voila, curtains. (Sewing is not hard. You can do it by hand. Use a thin thread and chances are no one will notice. Thread the needle, put the fabric where you want it, make a knot at one end of the thread, push the needle through, and then the most basic stitch: just in, out, in, out, in out in a little line. Alternately: fabric glue.)
Also, Meg, I forgot to say: you look GORGEOUS! Your dress is stunning!
Awe...poor guy. I could not live in a room SO DARK! Good grief, buy a lamp!
OMG! Now he can order some items from Target or Ikea and shipped straight to his front door. This is a small room. so one can of paint is enough transform his space. He should also invest some candles.
Aww, poor Zach!
being back in college as a grad student I totally understand being poor below povery level and making do with what you have.. Target is your friend and has great deals as does the dollar store.. a little omph goes a long long way.. you don't need much to make a statment..
Reminds me of my sister's rented mini apartment in Paris. She too used sheets as curtains, but in a somewhat prettier way as the landlord or the previous occupants installed curtain rods. If Zach is staying there for a longer time, it'll be nice to brighten up the place.
ha ha this is too funny. oh it reminds me of my husband when I first met him, luckily I was able to teach him about things like furniture and real curtains or else we'd be sitting on milk crates.
OMG! I had a good laugh! Yup, being single can sometimes make people so not think about being home a lot ;) But I would recommend trying out good second hand furniture stores, get a couple of chairs and a table, some lamps and definitely a curtain! Sometimes, it just takes time and not necessarily tons of money to make your home more 'livable'!
poor Zach(
cute!
LOL! Too funny!

My advice is to buy nice (but inexpensive), classic pieces over time... gradually decorating as you go. Then, you aren't out much at a time. Target is great!!

Check ebay. My fiance has scored us some really good deals. A lot of our furniture is from ebay, and I don't think our home looks that way. Probably the first things he needs are curtains for the window and a real rug by his "bed."
I used to live on campus and the front desk staff would give me and my roomate residence points to give tours of OUR rooms to hotel guests. I went into another male residence's room, and well, now I understand why. Guys just, dont get it lol
LoL! Hahahahahaha!
Hahahahaha so funny <3
:D hilarious....
<3
Ah, Zach is a good sport. If Ikea is an option, they have some affordable furniture - just the basics like curtain rods / curtains, a simple short shelf, a small coffee table and a floor mat would spruce the room out.
How funny:)
i saw this when it first got posted but unfortunately it wouldn't let me comment on it :( i think the guy is so cute, he doesn't even care about his place! thankfully my bf is also a neat freak and likes this all nice and pretty :) he has his bad days but for the most part he keeps things organized. and he's sweet enough to clean up my place when I'm sick or stressed!
daawww! I think Zach's place is cute. Reminds me a bit of the Futurama episode when Frye moved in with Bender.... "You can have the closet!"Aside from that, Zach, freecycle is your friend! Or cruise your local college campus the week after the kids move out for the summer.
LOL!!! :D

lol! hilarious
Very funny, lol.
lol Love this
Five points for the laugh!!! So funny! Though honestly, he's a 20-something living in Manhattan - probably not home that much anyway. A floor lamp would still be a good investment on his part.

This is hilarious, even though I'm living in NYC on a student's budget! Love the realities of NYC, and the reactions of non-new yorkers ;)Reminds me of a scene from How I Met Your Mother :)

Ahh, the joys of youth! I remember my undergrad days when $$ was tight. But I found ways to creatively decorate. Thrift stores, garage sales. There was no craigslist back then but it is certainly an option now! I'm sure he will make progress with his decorating skills.
Awww hehehe thanks for this!

Ah, this is cute. I hope that Zach has better furnishing now.
