NYX! JUMBO EYE PENCIL!
Stacy B here! Forget animal testing. All make up should be put through gym testing. If your make up can last through a tough workout, it's a keeper. No, I am not advocating wearing full make up to the gym. I am not that girl and don't want to be. But sometimes when my Mom wants some grandmother/grandson time she'll pick my son, Kyle up from daycare and I'll go to the gym right from work. I'm not going to stop and wash my make up off before my workout, so by default, it's on when I'm working out.
This week, I had a new product and decided to actually put it on fresh before the gym just to really see what would happen. I got home from work, my husband and son were happily pushing cars around the floor so I went up, got changed, applied NYX's Jumbo Eye pencil and grabbed my iPod.
I got quite the look from hubby. "Why are you wearing make up to the gym?" he said. I told him that it is so I could test it out and see if it would last through an hour long, cardio filled, sweaty work-out. He kept giving me the side-eye, which made me giggle. He called me sketchy. I told him he was overreacting. We have a great relationship.
After I convinced him it was all in a days work for Megsmakeup.com he reluctantly told me I looked 'too good for the gym' and I happily skipped out the door. See? Great relationship.
I tried two colors because I love layering and experimenting with colors. This is a jumbo pencil so it's great for thick eye lining and over all shadow. It's not thin and would be impossible for precision looks, but I wanted a fat line that I could see. I tried a basic black as a liner and then lime green (which looked more army green with a shimmer than lime - it's not nearly as bright as it sounds). I will neither confirm nor deny wearing my green Nike tank top purposely to match the green eye color.
These go on really smooth and easy. Just one swipe and there was a good amount of color. The black was really black, it didn't fade to gray with a light application. Good pigment in these pencils! The green was shimmery and light but was still a real green color. You can smudge these really easily with a finger or even a smaller eye liner or shadow brush. I could have really gone all out and done a great smokey green eye, but that would have been a little much for the gym! I'll save that for the weekend!
They are not oily at all and come in 24 different shades. Tons of mix and match opportunities! And, at only $3.50 each, go nuts. They are perfect to toss in your bag or for travel because you can use them as a liner or over-all shadow. I bet if you had a really small eyeliner brush, you could apply with that and get that precise thin line if that's what you are looking for. There's three ways to use it right there, just over $1 a use. Not bad.
As for the gym verdict? Success! I was at the gym for over an hour and did almost 4 miles on the treadmill plus three sets of abs. It's summer and hot and sweaty and my make up stayed put. Sometimes creamier shadows, especially the kinds that look like big crayons like this one, can crease easily, or run. This didn't. I was very pleased to come home and see a perfect eye application as I was getting in the shower. It even took some scrubbing to get it all off. Gentle scrubbing of course, but it was pretty stubbornly camped out on my eye lid.
I kind of liked this gym test...if your products can last through a workout, it can definitely get through a regular day, or a hot night of dancing. I think I'll have to convince my husband to take me out dancing this weekend to test out some more NYX products!
Anyone else try NYX cosmetics? Am I the only one that likes to mix and match colors?

I bought NYX jumbo pencils on hautelook.com and I am really happy with them. I have been wearing my waterproof MakeUpForever or UD 24/7 glide-on pencils in this heat, but if the NYX stay on that well at the gym, I would definitely give them a try. I don't put on make-up to go to the gym, but I am a Pilates Instructor so I slap a little color on my face before teaching. If my own work-out comes after that, I am heading to the elliptical/class with whatever face is there. The MUFE and UD pencils stayed put. Laura Geller's new waterproof pencil didn't so much slide as just wear away. I don't, however, love NYX lip products. Too heavy.
Love that this is budget friendly AND passed the gym test!! sounds like a winner!! I also love to mix and match colors.. I like to layer lipstiks blushes eye shadows, or put a pop of bright liner on my bottom lashes whith a really subdued eyeshadow..
I am an avid user of NYX products, but I have to say that I really dislike the jumbo pencils. I find them to be greasy, and they crease like crazy on me over any primer I've tried. I do have pretty oily lids, but still, I don't get the love.

for that price i might have to try one
These look really cute and fun!! && they last the sweaty workout totally in!!
I have seen so many reviews and youtube makeup gurus using this product. I need to check it out.
I haven't tried this brand but have read a lot of good reviews! Wonder if any brick-and-mortar stores carry NYX.
Ulta often carries some NYX products.
I love using NYX jumbo pencils in Milk and Black Bean as a base under eyeshadows to really make the shadows pop. I have found that they always crease, though. I haven't found a way around it yet...
Ireally like these...
I love having the pencil smudge under your eyes and having a black spot that no one tells you about. Many pencils melt and spread under hot conditions. I try not to wear make-up to the gym, but like you, by default, sometimes I have it on because I had no time to go home and wash it off. I'd like to try a pencil that stays in place for the sweaty workouts.
Pretty colors! I've heard these work well as an eyeshadow base to intensify whatever eyeshadow you wear over it.
Great idea about the layering! Never thought of that. I have 4 or 5 of these and really like the colors, vibrancy, and the smooth application. A little bit of a challenge to sharpen but I like the thicker pencil.
I have two of these, but I typically forget to use them. I need to dig them out again. They seem to be pretty hit or miss when it comes to creasing. Some people have no issues whatsoever, but they crease like crazy on others. Thankfully, they are inexpensive enough that it isn't too big of a deal to pick one up and give them a try.
if this stays on during an hour long workout this is a MUST HAVE for me for the next time my band plays out... jane mineral gel liner has been the only thing that's held up on my face... put we do play out for more like 4 hours than 1. i'd definitely give em a try, especially for the price. thanks for the review.
I think jumbo pencils are definitely a great buy. I have tried quite a few products from Nyx, including their lippies and blushes. Of them all, I would say their cream blushes are great and the round lipsticks are pretty good too, although not long-lasting. Thanks for the review Stacy :)
We don't have this brand in my CVS or Wegmans... where do they have it? And I am so anti wearing makeup to the gym (I always snicker at the women who do). But the colors of these eyeliners look awesome.
Hi KayMack! You can get these at any Ulta Beauty store or online at www.nyxcosmetics.com. I hear that you can get them in other random places but you'd have to search around your area to find out where.
LOL! "Sketchy..." :) Gotta' love the guys! I have mentioned many times that my ultimate test of new products IS a tough and sweaty cardio workout because I am "one of those girls",LOL! At least it suffuces to say I wear some makeup to workout for the sake of children and decency :)I love some of the NYX products, especially the "Sparkle" lipsticks and one of the glosses...these pencils for me work best as a primer with a powder shadow over, they tend to be too hard for me to be precise with because they are "fat" but LOVE That you CAN get a great effect with a swipe in the reat view mirror if needed! And you are right, you can apply with a thin brush for a great and more precise look! This line is at my grocery store and local Ulta and I think that for the price,it is probably one of THE best in terms of color and product variety and pigment!
Lol, I put things through the gym test too. I have a few of these pencils, and unfortunately they crease like crazy on me if I don't set them with a powder. My Urban Decay and Mally Shadow Pencils last all day without a primer or being set by a shadow, but at a fraction of the price the NYX ones are great as bases for my powder shadows. As long as I set them, I don't have issues with them staying put and I love that they are so affordable.
Sadly, I'm on the list of folks who've had creasing troubles with these when using them as a shadow or a upper lid liner. These do, however, hold up pretty well if you line them with your lower waterline.
i've tried some nyx stuff before, but this one just doesnt stay on my eyelids properly :(
NYX is a great brand. I love it because it's cheap and good and it has many differente products and colors. The jumbos are great to intensify the color of the eyeshadows. I always apply a primer before the jumbo because it is very creamy.
I like NYX products but the NYX Jumbo pencils are my least favorite item from them. They crease on me in no time flat. They are great for intensifying eyeshadow shades but what would be even better is if they actually stay on my lids. I know these work for some but unfortunately not for me.I love their new eye primer though.
I have one of these in French Fries and I love love love the color. I love wearing a thick eyeliner so these are great for me
i've used this as shadow but not liner. I have oily lids which put a lot of stress on eyeliners to stay put. I will try it once again as a liner, just because I would love for it to stay put, but last time it was a disaster. I love layering colors also... color matching down to my underwear makes me great and put together. lol

I love this! I have to get one now. I usually have makeup on when I go to the gym too because I don't bother taking it off. And I hate it so much when all my eyeliner melts away... and is all gross. thanks for this!
I have heard so many good things about these, I'll have to give them a go.
Heard lots of good staff about Nyx, however did not try it. (((

i've heard heaps of great reviews about these but never tried it. do they get stuck in your crease at all?
http://lilynotlouise.blogspot.com/
Hi ls820! I have farily dry eye lids so no, they didn't crease or run or get oily on me. If you are like me, you'll be fine. If you have an oilier lid, I'd try a primer first and then you should be OK.
read many great things about the brand and these pencils- but sadly -havent tried NYX yet. But I'd like to!
I've always wondered about the quality of NYX. Maybe its worth the try if it lasts through the gym!!
I have tried these several times, alone and set with powder. However, they always crease on me :( I never tried them at the gym, just a normal day at work. I am glad to know they do work for some people.

The only NYX products I've tried are their pigments, eyeshadows and eyeliners. I've loved everything! I've been dying to get my hands on NYX jumbo pencils but still haven't really got around to it. They really sound great to use as a base, especially the 'milk' colour!
These are a staple in my makeup kit!

I have one of these eye pencils in Cottage Cheese and find that it makes a good sticky eye primer! It is also a great highlight color!
i love using the white one as a primer makes your eyeshadow really pop!
I reaaally like the Nyx jumbo eye pencils. They work great for eyeliners. They also work great for eyeshadow bases.
I have the one called Milk and I am always impressed with how easily it glides on! I might have to buy other colours as well as they are great value for money and have so many beautiful shades! They are perfect as eyeshadow bases as well
wow, this sounds like a dream come true. but I don't think NYX is available in my country... blah...
oh this stuff is awesome =)
I haven't tried the NYX jumbo pencils yet. But they are among the things I want to buy.
these make really great bases too. i love the yogurt color.
I'd love to try them someday, especially the ones for smokey eyes!
I love NYX!! I have the wet n' wild ones like these, so I'm hoping to try these!!
