POLIDENT DENTURE CLEANER! NO, IT'S NOT FOR WHAT YOU THINK!
Now don't run off just because you saw the picture of a box of Polident! We are not going to discuss any type of denture wearing at this time. Nope. I, Jeanasina, do NOT have dentures and I hope I don't ever have any! My mom had dentures. When ever I think about the fact that she had every single tooth in her mouth pulled out (on purpose) in order to get dentures...dude...I SO...don't have that kind of courage! And that was back in the 40's? Think primitive methods! Not a chance (not even for money) would I let anybody pull all my teeth! HAHAHA...well now that I have all of you in a festive mood, let's attempt to discuss whatever possible purpose I had for telling you that story. That might come later. Right now, run your tongue across your teeth and say to yourself “These babies are REAL! - I have NO use for Polident!” Did you say it?
So...here's the thing...did all you ladies watch the Oscar awards this Sunday? Well, what did just about every stunning woman on the red carpet have in common? “Nice teeth?” “Real Teeth?” no it's not that! It's that they all were wearing killer, EXPENSIVE, sparkling BLING! That's right – I bet a lot of you are, even now, picturing in your head just which a-m-a-z-i-n-g piece of jewelry YOU saw on Sunday night that you’d love to be wearing or perhaps even OWN!
I don't personally own much in the way of bling. But I do have diamond rings! Stay with me here...so...one day I was at my jewelers and he cleaned my rings. I, of course, held my diamond-ring clad hand under the special 'jewelry store lights' and gushed about how much my rings sparkled! He grinned at me with his “I-know-every-thing-there-is-to-know-about-jewelery” smile and said “Let me tell you a little secret!”! I leaned in, my ears on alert to absorb whatever he was about to say to me! He informed me that I too, could make my diamond rings sparkle like miniature flashes of blinding light!
That is when he told me about Polident Denture Cleaner! That's right – my zillion dollar high class jeweler told me to put my rings, in the privacy of my own home, into a glass dish with a tablet of Polident and then walk away! My mouth gaped open as I attempted to comprehend that he really meant this! He told me a story... One day he went to an estate sale and picked up a large cut glass expensive vase. It was covered in some kind of muck but he purchased it for a song and took a chance. He KNEW he had a secret ingredient to use on that vase! He filled up a huge bucket with water and put in the vase and then dropped maybe an entire box of the Polident Tablets into the bucket! He left it to sit over night and the next day – SPOTLESS SPARKLING CUT GLASS VASE -which he later sold for a profit!
Every time I allow my rings to hang out with a fizzing Polident tablet they look like NEW when I pick them up again! The sparkle factor excites my rings as much as Katy Perry's “Firework” song excites my mood!
Oh the story about my mom's teeth? Well...it was all true and back then I'm pretty sure she used Polident because I CLEARLY remember a friend coming over one day to play when I was little. My friend pointed at the kitchen counter-top and said “What's THAT?” There sat my mother's teeth, CLEARLY visible in a glass with little bubbles floating all around them. That memory is imprinted in my mind and hopefully you'll have it in yours now too! Shared memories are good, right?
Who would have EVER looked on Megsmakeup.com for a review on Polident? Oh! I better say this then...from the reviews I read on the internet; it really does do a mean job on dentures!
Have any of you ever thought of using Polident for purposes other than it's intended use? I'm guessing there won't be a large show of hands right now. OK, HOW ABOUT THIS? Do any of YOU have products YOU USE for something else entirely than what it was originally advertised to do? Keep those comments coming ladies...

I use denture cleaning tablets (not always necessarily Polident... even the cheaper store brands work perfectly well) to help brighten and whiten my finger nails. Yep. I fill my manicure bowls with very warm water, pop a denture cleaning tablet into each bowl then dunk my fingers in and just relax for about 5 minutes till the fizzing stops and the water is cool. Then I rinse my fingers and gently scrub with a nail brush, dry my hands and apply lotion. Depends on just how stained your nails are of course but once a week for a few weeks should help clear up stains from nail polish, and after that about once a month to help keep them looking beautiful should do the trick. =) I don't have acrylics or gels - just my own natural nails. I don't know if this would work on fake nails. But for natural nails it's a little bit of a secret weapon. ;-)
This sounds like a great idea! I'm definitely going to try this! :D
i use the generic brand in my TOILET! hahaha.... does the same thing for my white bowl as it does for those pearly white dentures. i've always taken toothpaste & an old toothbrush to my bling... but i'll give it the tidy bowl treatment next time. & what a great tip for nails - i'll keep that in mind if i decide to do a lighter color on my toes this summer (but i doubt it.. i'm still addicted to suzi skis the pyrenese)
I've been using denture cleaning tablets for years. I use Polident. I figure I don't mind paying a little more for the name brand. They don't cost a heck of a lot. they work beautifully! I never thought about using them in my toilet. How many would i need to use each time??
This is brilliant!!!! And way less expensive then having a jeweler clean them. Thanks Jeanasina!!!!! ♥

I haven't used polident for cleaning my rings, but I am going to now. I have used a little toothpaste (not the ultra-expensive, brightening type, but the generic, I forgot to bring toothpaste on a business trip so buy the cheapest thing that CVS has) and it brightens up my rings too!
Wow - I never would have thought about the nail brightening possibility! I'm SO going to try that! Thanks for the tip shutterbug - I always think my nails look dingy so I can't wait to try this! Roxtarchic...I just went and plopped a few tablets in my toilet! It will be so FRESH! Again...LOVE the never-thought-of-ideas! The only warning I have is that the jeweler mentioned that you wouldn't want to use this on pearls or in some cases, inexpensive jewelery - so just be careful. I use a small little kids toothbrush gently after the rings soak to make sure all the filmy debris is off and then run them under clear water and ta'dah - it's sparkle city again!

Cool!!! Lemon is great for whitening nails - just mix a little lemon juice with some water and soak your nails. The tips will be really white and pretty.
I have used Polident for years for cleaning good glassware. I collect Depression glass and sometimes it has little water stains and gunk on it... the polident gets it right off. Now I'll drop my diamonds in there too!
I don't own any real jewelry to even use Polident but it makes sense that it could be a good jewelry cleaner. As far as using products for other purposes, I can only think of baking soda. I use it on everything and anything.
Hmmm, I'll have to think about that one. I know I use a lot of things for things other than their intended use, but they aren't coming to mind right now. I am super duper excited about this Polident trick though. It's now on my shopping list :)
the toilet idea is great.. I have tried toothpaste on jewlery and was skeptical but it worked wonders!! the denture cleaner must work wonders as well.. I too remember dentures in a glass.. my grandmother bless her soul would keep her "teeth" and it freaked me out when I was a kid I thought that all old people go through thier teeth falling out - wonder if the tooth fairy left her any offerings ;)
I will have to remember this trick. I never get to the jewelry store often enough to get my rings cleaned. The only non-intended use product that I can think of off hand right now is using apple cider vinegar as a toner (mixed with witch hazel and water).
I didn't know you could use Polident to clean jewelries?! I'll have to try that on my jewelries now to clean them up a bit. Hmm....I use napkin tissue to blot the oil off my face sometimes, umm...I know I use more things for stuff they are not intended for but it's not coming to me right now. =(
hmm, good tip on Polident! I've used toothpaste to polish silver, Monistat Anti-Chafing gel as face primer, and a friend uses Preparation H around her eyes to reduce puffiness after a late night
I've always used toothpaste, but I'll definitely have to give this a try!
wow I will definitely try this! It is going to be embarrasing buying polident though! I dont have a beauty tip in mind but I've had to use vinegar to get cigarette smells out a few times.
wow! i never use we could use polident for jewel cleaning!thanks for the tip :) i'll definitely be using this trick now

I've never used this but I use the Monistat gel as face primer, works fantastic! Also extra virgin olive oil as makeup remover, face moisturizer, hair oil
I have never tried this. I would have to give it a try someday.
Great post and so many new things learned, thanks. I am looking at my diamond now and thinking I'll be picking up some polident on the way home.
This was a useful post. I didn't have any idea about this product.
oh i do use other products in unconventional ways.. like monistat anti-chafing gel makes a great skin primer!
who loves makeup? me me ME!
I'm with the other ladies on this one with the Monistat gel, it works so great and is so much cheaper than expensive primers! I keep baking soda in my bathroom and put some on my toothbrush on top of the toothpaste at night to keep plaque and stains off my teeth. My dentist says it's totally fine, just don't do it more than twice a day. Once a week I also use it in my hair with my shampoo as a clarifier, and then use it as a face and body exfoliator.

Wow...that's unbelievable...who knew Polident had so many uses, from fingernails to toilet bowls to rings! Thanks for all the info C:As for my own tips...minty toothpaste can help relieve the itchiness of mosquito bites! XD
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing!

great idea. thanks
Had never heard of it being used that way, very interesting. Must remember to try it at some point. Like othes have mentioned I've also used the Monistat gel as a primer. Works really well.
I'll definitely have to try some of these ideas...toilets, jewelry, nails - I'm excited already. DH will surely be giving me the strange eye...
thanks for sharing such great ideas! I've used baking soda to remove red wine stains on a white skirt -- works wonderfully.
awesome !!! cant wait to try this!
Very interesting post, I'd never thought of such things or considered them.
I just emailed all my engaged/married girlfriends this link!
great tips
Any mommies out there - for the loo and jewellery, baby sterilising tablets work too - havn't tried em on nails cos I get bubble white, which, wait would probably work on the other stuff too, yay idea!Prep H (pile cream) great under eyes - you get funny looks from visitors if, like me, you keep it in the fridge but hey, whats a few looks in exchange for sparkly depuffed eyes?!Vaseline for conditioning eyelashes and brows - also good for using up the last of a fav lipstick - haul out that pesky scoop that hides down in the tube base, mix with vaseline and tada - instant gloss in your fav lippy shade!Yknow that bottle of dry shampoo we all have stuck at the back of the bathroom cabinet - never used but its really cheap and easy to get at the shop?! Well, spray a little unto fingers and use for creating a mattifyed mussed-up root volume look much in the way of the expensive hair dust styling powders!Keep your old coffee grounds for a bit of shower time (cos its messy!) thigh cellulite busting and exfoliating.
Pretty is as pretty does - so get your sashay on!
omg thats so funny!! umm i can think of any instances where ive done that tho lol
just wanted to say THANK YOU for this tip on the jewelery.... i'm blinded by the bling tonight... my rings have never looked sooooo good!
This has just made my day!!! thank you!!
i havent heard of using polident to clean rings and such but it sounds really cool. i wanna try it out! thanks.

I've never heard of using polident to clean rings. I know of people who use it to clean retainers (which I used to do) and I've heard that it can help with clogged pipes!
I am going to buy this to try it tomorrow.
I used that exact box of Polident for soaking my retainers, after my braces came off. They made my retainers smell and taste really minty, which I like... lol. Anyway, my grandma had always soaked her diamonds in some cornflour solution, and it worked too. Her 40-year-old diamonds sparkled like the day she got them. So, don't bother to go out and buy a box of Polident, just look into your kitchen cupboards ;)

That is awesome. I have a vase that is grungy but has sentimental value so I will have to try this!! I use Alka-Seltzer to help clean dirty pots and pans- you know, the really hard to clean ones that you have to scrub and scrub. Just put some water in the pan, add the Alka-Seltzer, leave it overnight, and it will be super easy to clean in the morning!
I love these Polident tips! We sell it at work, so I've definitely got easy enough access to it, will have to give this jewellery cleaning thing a go!All I can think of, in terms of unusual uses for ordinary things, is using baking soda as a shampoo, vinegar to clean EVERYTHING and newspaper to clean windows!
Great tip. I've actually heard of this one, and I've also used toothpaste to remove tarnish from silver. Supposedly ketchup will too, but I've never tried that one.
That is such a great tip! I'm forever looking at my ring, noticing it needs a good cleaning, but who has time to take it in?!
My Blog: http://rubysrigmarole.blogspot.com/
I didn't know polident could be used for so many things. Thanks for all the great tips.
I've heard vodka is good for diamonds too. A smart one I got from Kandee Johnson on youtube was to take a sports mouth guard, cut the strap off, put it in hot water (be careful!) and bite down to mold it to your teeth. Then use the mouth guard as a tooth whitening tray. A sports product to a glamor tool!
oh wow! That's so interesting! Gonna have to try it out!
