VAGISIL SATIN! TO ITCH OR NOT TO ITCH? THAT IS THE QUESTION!
It's Jeanasina's Body Beautiful Wednesday and today we are going to get very personal! If you are shy, skip this review and come back tomorrow. So here's the deal...at some time in your life, you are going to suddenly discover that you have an 'itch' down there between your legs. If you are young, you probably won't want to tell a soul because you'll think something is wrong with you and certainly won't want to mention just 'where' your 'itch' is to anybody! If you are older, you are already familiar with the itch and may be fantasizing about naked men in textured, studded or ribbed condoms trying their best to relieve your itch! You will do anything to get relief from feminine itching!
So as a preface to my topic today, allow me to tell you about the first time I ever had an 'itch' down there. Strap on your giggle outfit because this is a doozy of a personal story.
I grew up without a healthy mother figure in my life, so I was pretty much on my own with learning about personal things that had to do with my body. My story starts when I was just out of high school and working my first job. One day I came to work and I felt an itch within the confines of my underwear. I tried to ignore it and didn't tell a soul. On the 4th day of this living hell of an itch that I had, I could barely stand it. Whenever I could, I'd go in the back room and find a counter just the right height to my personal area. Much like a large bear scratching it's back on a tree, I'd literally work my crotch on the corner of a counter for relief and pray nobody would see me! Finally, after days of this itch I was pretty much going out of my mind so I asked one of my female older co-workers if they ever had an 'itch' in a private area. Of course the woman had and my first round of advice from her was to go home and give myself a douche with a vinegar and water concoction. I had never performed a douche before and ... this is true ... right after I did it, I fainted, because I was scared and clueless! The itch persisted and so did my agony. Finally, after almost two weeks of this living female hell, I went to a doctor and he took one look and said “OMG! Why did you wait so long to come and see me?” Immediate medicine was supplied inside, outside and orally and I was rid of the itch at last after a few days. That was my very first yeast infection. I never forgot that particular itch, so in the years to come, if there was even a glimmer of an itch in the nether regions, I was all over it the first day!
These itches come about for various diverse reasons. If you are younger you probably have gotten or will get a yeast infection which causes this type of itching inside and out. If you are older like me sometimes you get an itch from a lack of hormones etc. You can also get an itch from wearing tight clothing such as pantyhose, thong underwear, too tight underwear, tight jeans...all these things can trap moisture and cause itching. Other causes are wearing synthetic materials next to the skin that don't let skin breathe, wearing a wet bathing suit, excess perspiration, your period, wearing pads or panty liners, the hormonal fluctuations of your menstrual cycle, allergic reactions to soaps, detergents, spermicides, condoms & deodorants, vaginal dryness (often experienced during menopause), sexual activity or dermatological causes like eczema and psoriasis!
Now if you have an inside itch you need to probably see a doctor (at least for the first time) until you understand your own body and can readily identify what's happening within you! The doctor will give you a prescription and these days you can purchase some of the same products over the counter that the doctor writes a prescription for.
I'm focusing today on the itch that's on the outside. I'm currently experiencing vaginal outside itch symptoms and my best friend during vaginal itch-a-thons is Vagisil! I have been using the Original Strength Vagisil anti-itch cream for some time now and it really does the trick in bringing instant relief when I need it. Sometimes in the middle of the night, the itch prankster wakes me up out of a dead sleep, but I'm ready for him. I reach over to my night stand, pick up the vial of Vagisil and within a minute of application the Vagisil says to the itch on my personal area...”You are dead to me.” and the itch stops and I fall right back to sleep.
I have seen the ads on television for Vagisil Satin so I thought I'd give it a try too! It advertises that it's also a great anti-itch cream and has patented odor block protection as well! This is a high purity cream with Vitamins E,A & D plus aloe to bring relief from your most intimate itching and irritation. It's a white creamy lotion what is dispensed with a little pump and has kind of a soft gentle fragrance.
Vagisil products can be found at most drugstores as well as the big retail stores such as Target and Walmart. I'm still a fan of the Original Strength Vagisil. The new Vagisil Satin doesn't seem to work as fast to stop itching, at least on me.
I'm also impressed with the Vagisil website! You can learn a lot about feminine itching from the website! There is a wealth of information for all ages! I could have used their website back in the day when I had my first itch! Now for those of you who are going to ask, what does Vagisil have to do with a makeup website! Honey, let me say this...nobody is going to notice your lipstick, your eyeshadow or your amazingly tight facial skin if they see you straddling the arm of your couch and riding it frantically like a mechanical bull to try and relive your feminine itching!
Have any of you tried the new Vagisil Satin? Feel free to share your own personal itching story!

I haven't tried it, but boy do I remember my first itch too! Terrible!!! I'll look into that product someday whenever that happens again!
lol, hilarious post Jeanasina! I worry about these sorts of products though, as women may use them to mask the symptoms of something that should be taken care of by their Dr.
Lily - Mineral makeup Junkie!!!
Nice to see this kind of post, but I have to agree with Lily. I too worry that these sorts of products may mean some woman mask symptoms of something which should really be seen by a Dr.
I totally agree with Lily - I think itching might be a symptom of something that a doctor should have a look at.
probably not a product for me. I find that cutting refined sugar, not using soap/douches, & wearing cotton panties help to prevent those nasty itches.
as in, not using soap to wash your down-there area? that's what I use in the shower :/ what should I be using?
You were born an original; Don't die a copy.
i remember going to the doctors with my.. well um family member lol.. for her "itch" i was extremely curious...... i finally see a prescription of Canesten tablets on the table that she started taking. then i found out what the "itch" was all about... i was a curious child, i bugged her and she reluctantly explained everything to me. I was petrified! itch??? inflammation?? discharge!? sharing the same soap!?!?!?!?!... (that was back in the primitive age where we all used the same piece of soap to wash ourselves... but i always made sure the soap ran under hotwater for enough time before i start using it).

Oh god, I could NOT stop laughing at this post. TOO funny. I love your stories!! On a more serious note, I've experienced this before and it is not fun. At all. Definitely recommend seeing a doctor, don't mess around with stuff like this!
Yeh I've had it before - ONCE though and when I was only a young adult so I didn't really know what it was. It lasted a few days until I figured out that wearing cotton undies helps. Never had it since thank goodness. Nothing worse than problems *down there* cos it's always a sensitive issue *ahem*

I had two or three times itch. It hurt a lot, specially when I had to go to the bathroom... However it was an inside itch so I went to the doctor. It was an infection and he told me to buy one medicine. The medicine was the solution to my problems :)
I agree ladies, if you are experiencing itching, especially if it is unfamiliar to you, you should consult a doctor for expert advice! One thing I meant to mention is that Vagisil also now has a 'Screening Kit' for vaginal infections! According to the website it says "Many women think they have a yeast infection when they don't. Now you can know." You can use their kit to test for vaginal infections at home. However, this is "Only for women with normal periods." There was a coupon for $1.50 off a screening kit inside the box that had the Vagisil Silk in it that I just purchased recently. The Vagisil website has a pretty informative section on vaginal itching and the signs to look for. You might want to check this out too! They also stress seeing a doctor, you definitely don't want to mess with an itch that could be a sign of something requiring medical attention! Vagisil is great for the little itches that come and go easily.http://www.vagisil.com/understanding_itch.shtml

what a funny post! Thanks for the info!
haha funny post

i'm disappointed i can't buy this product in Paris ... :(
Diamond are Girl Best Friend !!!
I've never, ever had that kind of itch (touch wood) but then I've always worn pure cotton panties, and skirts rather than snug trousers and at home I wear socks and not pantihose. Though, I do get very normal itching down there at times and god, is it annoying when in public not to be able to scratch it, I mean it is barely one can adjust underwear that has bunched up without people staring!Anyhow, if I ever do get that kind of itch on the outside, I do know what to search for. Thanks!
Yes, I can remember as a teen having that 1st itch and going what is all this about and why won't this go away??..LOL Thank God for Vagisil and OTC help for a Y infection. Sure see your doc but when you can't get in till next week what a relief!!! And I agree our diet plays a big role in keeping that nasty itch at bay. :-)
I too have had the "itch" once where it required a doctor. Any other time I had an itch I just changed my panties to cotton and it would disappear by the next morning. Now I know what to look for if it lasts a little longer. I also recommend seeing a doctor if your itching persists longer than a few days. Thanks Jeanasina for a very informative post. It's nice to get a post every now and then that deals with what we as women go through with our bodies.
Never had anything of the sort. I do wear synthethic panties and in summer i sit in wet bathing suits and sometimes my pants are on too tight. I think it's more likely to because I don't shave down there. Pubic hair has an important immunological function because it provides a physical barrier against all sorts of things, from germs to chemical irritants. It doesn't smell and it's not harder to keep clean. In fact, everything is very fresh down there. It'd be great if someone did a large scale study to find out the correlation between shaving and getting yeast infections or other assorted irritations.
OMG I remember when I got it the first time it was awful antibiotics caused it and it so bad !!! I have used the Vagisil cream before and that was good but I've not tried this one.
I know what you mean about the need to hide it. I guess it's just that women are more taught to keep their private parts, well, private. Also, I have numerous times heard people say in insults "You have had sex with so many people, you probably have a disease, go use Vagisil or something." It kind of makes you feel it's bad, when it's really something every women might deal with - even if they are respectful and beautiful people. The satin seems so much better then the regular. I would say I can't wait to try it, but that is not true - I don't want to have to! If I DO need it, hopefully this works a lot better. (:
Let's all enjoy the Summer sunshine!
Jeana...my love for you grows by the post,LOLROF! ONLY you could write about such a topic and not only totally captivate me but make it funny and almost "normal" as well!!! :)I've been pretty lucky but as you say,it's usually freakin' pantyhose or insanely tight jeans that cause an issue. My gyno is 60 miles away and won't prescribe for an "infection" by phone anymore because he DOES understand that many times the symptoms can be something that requires more intense and immediate attention, you have to go in and get swabbed by a nurse for a "cure..." When based on experience,I KNOW it's strictly an irritation,I run to Walmart and covertly stalk the "feminine aid" aisle to find something such as this genius product that will cure what ails me easily and quickly :) MANY I know who are plagued with consistant yeast infections swear by the "homeopathic" remedy of peeling a garlic clove and inserting...sounds awful but MANY use with great success :) Will leave the commentary to y'all from here,HAHAHA! I've also found that taking a damn antibiotic can also result in an "itch" that isn't wanted or needed....GREAT post, women NEED to be able to talk about this because the world at large doesn't :)
Great article, made me laugh :) I will at least definitely remember this product if i get a yeast infection :)
Haha oh man, I remember my first "itch" gaah (went to the doc to treat it). As much as I hate the gyno I'd rather see her then insert a clove of garlic there...hmm.
Hahaha! I'm equally horrified that you actually posted something so private and amused at your ability to write about something so very personal with a great attitude. I do want to commend you (and Meg!) for posting something like this because there are many people out there who don't have someone to turn to to ask these questions, and they need to get the right information. Good for you for taking away some of the stigma and teaching people that things happen and you shouldn't be embarrassed. Take care of yourself no matter how 'icky' it could be!
this is such a personal topic but someone has to address this to us right? i do get the outside itch usually near my period, but i really did think it was just me. thanks for the suggestion!

I have never tried vaasil before but it would be good to have it on hand when you need it.
I was so afraid this was going to be about douching...which I have very strong opinions about....(against...we're not dirty and don't need inside cleaning. I wrote a huge dissertation about this in my college days!)But I think this was a good public service for the younger set, as they could become very confused and shamed about it, and it's nothing to be ashamed about!!
Right after I gave birth, from my daughter, I was so messed up down there I had tubes of god knows what. I have not tried this specific Vagisil but I have used this brand. And yes it does wonders.
The first time I had one of these, I put it off longer than I should. When I finally went tot the dr, I couldn't use anything for a few weeks because I was pregnant. I could only use a topical cream like this. I was so glad for it!! Thankfully, a few weeks later, I was cured. Did you know that Vagisil also works to stop the itching of misquito bites?? I haven't tried Vagisilk, but original works!!

Funny funny funny---but will keep this in mind. Eating less sugar has helped me avoid those itches.
Jeanabean!!! I miss you! LOVED 'hearing' your voice, clear as a ringin' bell, again... As always, you are HYSTERICALLY funny! Love your way with words, not to mention the education you always impart. I mean, where else could we get this kind of attention to detail? Hope all is well in your little corner of the Kingdom! Happy Easter to you and Jimmy... OOXX
Excellent Post! I am very familiar with yeast infection itch and Vagisil Satin. Taking antibiotics are usually what triggers my yeast infections, So If for what ever reason I end up on a course of antibiotics I pick up a tube of Vagasil to complete the package
Lisa
Oh how funny!! And refreshingly frank. Where would the world be without people who are willing to just tell it like it is. I've had a lot of yeast infections in my time and know all too well the discomfort it causes. I'm all for products that can relieve the symptoms. x
Yikes! Funny post, definitely. I'm gonna echo others here and recommend a trip to the doc, though. Also seconding the cotton underwear!

I hate, hate, hate the itch "down" there!!!! Like Jeanasina it wakes me up out of a dead sleep!!! Vagisil has been a life saver!

I never had an itch problem, but your post made me laugh, as always! I did have a douching issue once, though. I had my annual Gyn appt., and I'm always so paranoid that I won't be squeaky clean, although what I think will happen to change that from the time I take my really long bath until the time I get to the doctor's office 20 minutes later, I don't know. Anyway, I would douche prior to the visit, and kept having to go in for follow-up appointments because my pap smears were coming up abnormal. So finally, after the 3rd one, and when other tests came up normal, my Dr. asked me if I was using any new products or anything at all that would cause an abnormal result, and I told him, no, same body wash, same douche... At which point he informed me that you are NOT supposed to douche before your appointment, and asked me if I had done it before every appointment, and I said yes, because I didn't want to be less than fresh and clean, and he told me that although he certainly appreciated that, I was not to douche before an internal examination.
never tried it, thanks for the reviews though
Very hilarious, Jeanasina! I've only had one yeast infection in my lifetime, and that was one too many. Since then, I've taken every possible precaution to ensure that it did not happen again. It is not a pleasant experience, especially if you're embarrassed, shy, and unsure.
i appreciate that a blog like this was posted...it's definately one of those sensitive topics that never gets talked about!!
Hey! Thx for sharing your story, because seriously I had no idea about all this, so I would have been clueless if this ever happens to me. Now, when I'll have my first itch I'll know what to do!! And I'll probably talk about it with my doctor before!! hehe
well i am young... thanks for the suggestion!
Ohhh honey you had me in fits of laughter while nodding my head emphatically in agreeance! I too have had the dreaded Itch many many times, for all of the reasons you listed then some. It just takes every chance it gets to infest doesn't it? Damn Itch! Thankfully after a few years I got wise like you, and can now, upon the first sign of that familiar tingle, jump into a chemist and have a handy dandy pill that will fix me up in less than 24 hours. LOVE IT! Much better than a vinegar douche.... OMG what was that lady thinking?!!!

interesting...
interesting
Hahaha oh Jeanasina, you are too funny!
I've actually never tried this or had much need for it, but good to know it's out there if i do!
lover of beauty, sharer of opinions http://prettylightsbeauty.blogspot.com/
Never had an itch, but it's nice to know about this and be prepared!
This is a great article and much needed. This is a site where we're able to talk about anything and everything beautywise or not. But this is a womans issue and it's great you're putting your advice and personal experience out there. We've all been there. We've all experienced the embarassment, but you know what? No longer, there shouldn't be embarrassment about it. I do understand much younger girls not understanding, but once you do know your body and I mean from head to toe, you'll know what the best remedy is for you. Great and so happy to know that we can talk about anything from lipstick, mascara all the way to vaginal itching. What can you say? We're women and it happens. I'm happy that you put it out there for opinions, conversations and just mainly to know we've all been there at one time or another. Your stories are hilarious! Love your writing. Once again, any problems with hormones, I would advise reading Suzanne Somers books about hormones. One is called "Ageless", the other is "Breakthrough" Robin McGraw, Dr. Phil's wife has a great one as well titled "What's age got to do with it". There's the issue ladies, we have PMS, Perimenopause that some women start to experience as young as 35 years old and then off to menopause. It's hormones and they can make us insane. Those books brought incredible knowledge to me. You don't have to go insane with awful symptoms, acting like you've lost your zest for life, losing your zest for life, etc. I'm glad I was introduced to these books from watching Oprah. These two ladies were on her show and believe me, the wealth of information learned from the interviews and their books is amazing. Kudos to you Jeanasina for bringing up something that needs to be brought up, no shame. Hormones should be discussed as well because it does have to do with beauty and how we all feel. No nonsense approaches to make you feel better. Thanks and you're wonderful!
I haven't used it before but is sounds neat!
I often get itches if I don't moisturize. Otherwise it doesn't happen. I too agree that women shouldn't rely on products like these as a constant relief just in case they have problems that aren't really cream related and need medical intervention! Be safe ladies!
