MOTIVES 10 YEARS YOUNGER MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY!
Meg here! I took down the last post because it was a total downer and I am not going to do any more doom and gloom! I'm going to be positive and happy! To kick off positive and happy week, I have a product that I've come across that I never would have picked up because I feel like my vanity is already stuffed to the rafters.
A friend of mine got me a bottle of Motives by Loren Ridinger Makeup Setting Spray. I had never heard of the brand before and I've never used a makeup setting spray. I wasn't actually even sure what one does. Here's what Motives says " Helps diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles and
- Six moisturizers alleviate dry or powdery appearance on makeup surface
- Helps reduce makeup slippage into pores, lines, wrinkles or scars
- Surface cooling technology holds temperature to avoid melting or sliding
- Fewer required touchups throughout the day
- Saves up to 50% of makeup usage"
That's a lot to claim! I haven't been using it long enough to comment on the "Saves up to 50% of makeup usage" part but I can comment on the rest! It 100% completely does get rid of that caked on powder look. It does keep my eyeshadow from looking "creasy" and it gives me an overall fresh and dewy glow.
It's kind of like a reverse primer! My makeup does seem to stay on throughout the day longer but it has the "fresh" look of when I first put it on. Am I the only one that feels like after a certain point their makeup just looks sort of stale?
I'm really loving this Motives line and will be getting in tough with the company to see if they can part with some of this setting spray so that I can get your opinions on it as well. The Motives line actually looks as though they have quite a few unique products that are going to leave me with even less bathroom real estate!
How bout it? Have any of you ever tried anything from Motives? Have any of you ever used a setting spray?

ooo. ive never used a setting spray no, but this sounds amazing. if i can find a drugstore brand i will definetly try it =)
It is incredible! I like to spray if after putting on all my makeup EXCEPT mascara. I spray then put on the mascara. My eyelashes are fuller and longer and it just ROCKS! You can get it from my webportal and get 2% CASH BACK from trying it. Also see the entire Motives line:www.libbytilton.net
My makeup looks stale around lunchtime even with a primer, but I'm realllly oily so I just have to reapply. I've been considering a setting spray, especially since I wear mineral makeup. This one might do the trick, thanks for the review!
It works wonderfully with mineral make up. And it looks so much better, healthier. https://www.marketamerica.com/brucepam/index.cfm?action=shopping.wpGoShopProducts&skuID=301FS
very intriguing claim that this product is making! i would be tempted to try it... but nervous because sometimes "dewy" looks "greasy" on me after a few hours.
This NEVER looks greasy but if you have a problem with oil you can use the same spray but in the NO SHINE edition which is NEW!!! Check it out and get 2% CASH BACK at www.libbytilton.net
i usually spray Kerstin Florian Orange Blossom Water after I apply my makeup- it makes me feel fresh and give a little scent :) I am really wary of products that promise to make you look x years younger...I think a simple mineral or orange blossom water spray bottle will do just as well.
I like setting with a spritz of aloe juice.
i love how my makeup looks when i first put it on but it does look stale like u said within an hour. plus my oily spots get, well, oily and i have to keep reapplying blot powder.

Try this same setting spray in the NO SHINE edition! You will fall in love with it and I offer 2% CASH BACK from www.libbytilton.net
I have never heard of motives and have never used a setting spray but after this review I would love to try it. It sounds amazing and sounds like something I would use. Thanks for the review of this! This is why I love this site by the way...I learn so much about products I would never even think of getting.
I wondered where that post went !!I've never heard of Motives before, I already use a setting spray that I make myself :-) and I love it !!!
Philogene-- I have been meaning to tell you that BEFORE you posted your setting spray recipe I bought something with similar ingredients from Dermalogica. I will say it rocks my friend!!I have also bought on from Jane Iredale and it was ok.
I love my setting spray I couldn't see me changing now it does everything I want it too :-) Glad you like it too :-) <3
I hope this isn't stepping on Motives' toes or philogene's, but I thought others might be interested in philogene's homemade setting spray recipe mentioned here. I found it from a previous post: "50ml of Green Tea made with a teabag, 5ml of vegetable Glycerine and half a teaspoon of Vitamin C (the Vit C will act as a preservative). Mix together and when cool put it in a spray bottle!" I personally have used a water/glycerine combination and found it to work fine, but I'm going to run off and give her method a try. Green tea sounds way better than water, and the vitamin C preservative will hopefully make it last longer. Thanks, philogene!
You're welcome sweetie, glad you like it :-)
this is one of the reasons i love meg's so much!! thanks philogene & kristaqqqq!! i'll be whipping this up this weekend!
I've used 'Mist oppurtunity' from mark as a setting adn refreshing spray...I think it works pretty well. This one sounds interesting...I wonder what the price point is.

I was also curious about that last post from Meg -- it just disappeared! I can understand, though. So anyway...about setting spray: I've never really used an official setting spray either, but I doubt I'd pay $30+ for it. I saw a post on YouTube for a sort of homemade mixing medium (4 parts purified water to 1 part glycerine), and I have used it to spray on my face if I look a bit cakey. I originally made it just to turn eyeshadows into liquid liners, but it seems to work fine as my own type of setting spray. I really don't think it makes my makeup last any longer, though, so I should really look into a real one. I've never even heard of orange blossom water or aloe juice, so I'll definitely look into those suggestions from previous comments...and I'm off right now to do a search for Philogene's homemade setting spray!
I would like to try that product :) but i haven't heard about that company before!
never heard of this brand before but i did use a caudalie setting spray before and i loved it!!
I haven't heard of Motives before either. However, I've used (and sometimes still do) Model in a Bottle. I love it because it really DOES keep my makeup fresh all day. This was great for me when I worked long days and didn't have the time or inclination to freshen up. Now that I'm retired and have much more time to fool with my "look", I don't need it so much. Anyway, the Motives product sounds good - but for a lower price, you might want to try Model in a Bottle or a home-made solution like Philogene's.

i've never tried any sprays a part from hairspray lol.i get a little scared when it comes to cans of sprays because i ALWAYS manage to get some in my eye, and i'd end up running around the house with usually two but when i'm lucky, one burning eye.however, i think this would be a really good product for people on the go or traveling, i should peel my eyes open for my mum, this would probably do her good, she's always in a rush!

I have never heard of this company before and have never used a setting spray but....philogene is an awesome girl and if she likes hers--i'd bet on it!
I wish i had the energy to make some but i'm in a funk right now so maybe....one day i'll try it ;)
I usually end up redoing my foundation within a couple of hours because I'm super oily. I have better luck with eye makeup, but it would be nice to find something that makes everything last longer. The only type of setting spray that I've heard of is Model in a Bottle. I've heard tons of great things about it, but never tried it. I don't really need to look 10 years younger - but I'd be happier if my makeup looked better longer :)
For what it's worth, I didn't think your deleted post was a "downer", it was more of a cautionary tale.
When I do set my makeup, I use a spray bottle of distilled water with a little lavender essential oil added to it. It's very nice. Bonus: it doubles as a nice hair rewetting spritz.

Never heard of this, but definitely sounds interesting. At the moment I use rain water with a little lavender and tea tree essential oil added.
Thanks!! I have actually been searching for a good setting spray. I finally have a makeup routine that works for me. I can get it looking flawless and even get it to stay@ but you are right! i want that dewy perfection. and makeup run off on my jacket is a big problem and I think a setting spray would help with that!

I agree with you Meg, I notice that 'stale' look at around 3pm when my make-up looks like a dull, faded version of what I applied and marvelled at at 7am that morning. This product sounds interesting, I'm yet to try a setting spray or even a foundation primer - but they're two things I'm keen to test run!

never heard of this brand, or a setting spray! Looks like another one I will add to my list of "must try"s. I'd like to try that one that kristaqqqq put up too, I'm all for the natural homemade approach!

Well, if I looked ten years younger - I would look EIGHT! I am not so sure that sounds good . . . however, this product still sounds like something I could use. I have never heard of setting spray, or this brand, but always up for new things!
Let's all enjoy the Summer sunshine!
I have never used a setting spray but since my face is so dry this sounds very refreshing and I would give it a try.
I have been thinking about using a setting spray. what is in this stuff? I checked out the website but it doesn't seem to list ingredients.
Lily - Mineral makeup Junkie!!!
Oh! It sounds goooood :) I have super oily skin so I have to touch up from time to time on a daily basis. It's something I've been looking for! I'll definitely give it a shot if I see it round!
I like the idea of preventing makeup from slipping into pores since that's what I have trouble with, but with this price, I think I'll stick to Fix+.
i would definitely love to try this product, it sounds amazing!
My setting spray is my rosewater and lavender water toner. Does a good enough job for me. While this product does sound amazing, I am only 21 so don't imagine looking like an 11 year old with makeup on would look good! Haha, joking. Perhaps it'd be something I look into for the future.
I've never used a setting spray, but would love to try one just to see if it actually does something for me. I have oil skin though, so I'd be afraid it would make me look even worse.

This sounds great--exactly what I was inquiring about last week when people were talking about primers. I thought they were all for oily skin and mattefying. This seems like a really lovely, moisturizing product--yet one I could use cause who wants eyeshadow creases?!
This sounds perfect for the summer when humidy and sweat can really damage a perfectly applied makeup job. Right now, there's nothing but 10 degree winds where I am so I'm in no danger of losing makeup to sweat or oil. My only thought now is that my makeup might actually get blown off...ouch.
I'd never heard of Motives. I use my toner as a setting spray sometimes. Most of the time I'm too lazy to use one.
Have not heard of motives but have used Jane Iredale's setting spray which is pricey but good. I like reading the handmade recipes. My goal is the same effect but with less money. Cautionary tale: Clinique's Mositure Surge spray does not work well with minderal powder makeup.
I've not tried a setting spray, but I really want to. I have a problem with my concealer staying on. Like by lunch all of my blemishes are bright red again, instead of nice and concealed like they were in the morning. I've never heard of this product, I was thinking of trying Model in a Bottle.
I have honestly never tried a setting spray and this one sure starts like a good place to start! I don't think that unless I'm running ragged that my makeup fails me too much but it would be soooooo fabulous to have the confidence that a carefully fussed-over face will last all night for a special event!Sounds like a company with lots of promise!
I would like to try a makeup setting spray!! I was hoping to try Model in a Bottle, I just have to get around to ordering it!
I've used a setting spray, but it had too much glycerine in it and made my face look shiney. I had to set the setting spray with some setting powder to get rid of that which sort of defeated the purpose. I prefer to just set my make-up with a powder puff in a roll and press motion now. Works as well, without the annoying shine. :)
WOW!!! I need this, I feel like I can look powdery, and thus look older, I hate that!I've been looking at Model in a Bottle and the MAC fix+ and wondering about those. Actually I've been lusting after the MAC!! My makeup doesn't slide, my problem is that I'm so so very dry, and with the weather we've been having it isn't getting any better! (seems like it's been below zero for weeks now!)I am also interested in trying some of the home remedies to see how well they would work for me, mid-day I feel like I've got to reapply moisturizer already, so this sounds like it may just be the ticket for me!!Thanks for the awesome review...oh, by the way, what is the price point? I'm all about trying to save money these days!
I have some citrus concentrate on the way that I will mix up and use as my first setting spray. Excited to try and see if there are good results.
Haven't used it, but gosh, it sounds great =) Thanks for being willing to be in touch, Meg -- I hope it works out!
