What is in your purse? In addition to whatever school stuff I need, I keep whatever MAC Lipglass I'm using that day and MAC Blot Powder in "Dark". I have Purell hand sanitizer and Cetaphil lotion as well.
Guilty Pleasure: I watch TERRIBLE T.V. shows: Big Brother, Real Housewives, Tiny and Toya, pretty much any reality show where the initial reaction is "why?????".
Skin color, type and any special skin concerns: I'm a MAC NC50 and my acne is pretty much under control thanks to my dermatologist. My biggest concern now is the acne scars. I have dry/combination skin. I learned that dry skin tends to overcompensate and produce a lot of oil so i struggle with shine when wearing make up.
Beauty inspiration: A butterfly, a pair of shoes, a skirt... anything. And then there's more conventional things like other people's blogs, youtube videos, and magazines.
Top 3 skincare products
1. Cetaphil face wash - you either love or you hate this stuff but most people love it. It's gentle enough for my sensitive skin which has been more sensitive due to my acne meds.
2. MAC blot powder - just as the description says, it sets foundation and controls oil without really adding any color.
3. Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 30 - I need at least SPF 30 for my face with the acne meds I'm on and this doesn't make me oily or irritate my skin.

1. Sonia Kashuk brushes - She has cute sets that are a great start for any brush collection, plus great for beginners with make up.
2. Bobbi Brown make up manual - Another must-have for anyone starting out with make up.
3. MAC 187 brush- If you use liquid foundation, this is the best brush for an airbrushed look. Plus I just love the way this thing feels.
Best beauty secret/tip:
Most make up items do more than what the package says. Try using a pink/peach eyeshadow as a blush. Your blush broke? Mix it with petroleum jelly and make a lip balm. Need a new use for a MAC pigment? Mix it with lotion and apply to the body.

Great tips! I'm curious to try them out. I've heard mixed reviews about the Cetaphil as well, but I've heard so many people who are hooked on it, I might give it a try.
You are one pretty lady! I love your hair all curly like that. I also love your glasses. Very chic.Thanks for the tip about using blush for a lip tint. I sometimes use my mineral shadows as a blush but only if they are a more natural color. I can't live without my purell either. Awesome products, Ashley :) I also love my MAC Lipglass and hand sanitizer! I sometimes use my products in unconventional ways too. I like to buy makeup sets because they're a good deal even if I don't use all of the products. However, I try to find ways to make the products work for me--I don't usually wear blush or bronzer, but some blushes and bronzers can be worn as eyeshadow. I also use my eyeshadows as eyeliner (using them dry for a softer look, and wet for a more dramatic look [more like real liner]). Some shadows can even be used as brow powder in a pinch! (Just don't pick anything too shimmery/glittery.)

Even though everyone says they think reality shows are the worst thing on tv, secretly they all watch at least one! I know I'm guilty. I watch one trash show but would never watch another. And they are essentially the same! I guess we all need some escape.I really need to throw Purell in my purse... I took it out for some reason, but I have a habit of petting stray dogs and the sheep and goats that are tethered on the side of the road. Should probably be washing my hands after that...

Thanks for the great tips. I couldn't live without hand sanitizer in my purse or pocket. Working in the medical field I think about keeping my hands clean all the time.
Props to another girl with funky glasses! :D I love using products for different purposes. Just today I used an allover face glow color as an eyeshadow and it looked really nice!
i love cetaphil cleansers! they are very gentle on my skin too, and I feel refreshed afterward.I recently found another face/body wash, it came in the mail called ""dermeze" for sensitive skin and it does a fairly good job too :)

Sonia Kashuk brushes are great. I have the angled blush brush and just picked up the bent liner brush.Just last night I noticed the brown liner in a little Smashbox liner kit I have is just the right color for my brows. It works great!
I LOVE the MAC pigments...they are the best! I collect them lol :) The lipglass is amazing, too! And if you find a really pretty, shimery pigment and mix with the lipglass...ooh-la-la! ;)I really want to try the MAC foundation brush you mentioned...I am in desperate need of a foundation brush. Oh and btw...MUFE lashes = total glam!!! ♥

Nice to read about you! I don't use too many makeup items unconventionally. Although I do have a few mineral makeup colours which can be used interchangebly (eye, face, mixed in with clear gloss for a new shade of lippy!).I have heard so many good things about Cetaphil and so many ladies on here mention it and seem to love it so I am definately going to go out and get me some!!

Before companies all offered luminous products to get you glowing, I would swipe a gentle sheen of eyeshadow in ecru across my face to look wide awake and fresh--it works! So nice to read about you! Love the multi tasking tip! It's great. I use EDM and so many of those products are easy to use multiple ways! Blush as eye shadow or lipgloss, powder blush as cream brush, brushes are multi tasking to eg eye kabuki for concealer... Etc...

The tips about reusing broken blushes is genius! I've never thought of that before. I totally know what you mean about your main concern is acne scars. I too am eternally grateful to my dermatologist who has helped my skin in so many ways I didn't even know it needed and now I'm just trying to clear the scars and uneveness. Thank you so much for the tip about broken blushes. I've had a broken Lancome blush for ages now that's just been sitting in my cabinet because I can't bear to throw it away. I'll be making lip gloss out of it as soon as I get home from work!

My main concern is acne scars, too. :( They are the bane of my complexion existence!!! I've started to use a glycolic cleanser and I'm adding retinol to my night routine. Hope it works! I like MAC, too! I tend to roam around the makeup world when it comes to my foundation, but right now I'm using MAC's studio fix powder in NC 42. I've recently become VERY addicted to using my eyeshadow as an eyeliner. I don't know why I used to think it was difficult. It's not; you just need the right brush. I have a lovely one from Smashbox. It has a smudgy end and a short, dense, stubby brush end. Love it! I just use water and my shadow. Ooh! I like your idea of mixing pigment with body lotion!

I love cetaphil cleansers! i feel like it is gentle enough for my very sensitive skin. But more often i use mark facial cleansers and mousturisers. I also adore the idea of petroleum jelly and blush as lip balm... i don't use alot of blush so i have a lot left over from kits this will be a great purpose for it.

Thanks for sharing Ashley!I have yet to try the cetaphil cleansers, but I have heard so many good reviews on them. I use loose mineral powder blush and on occasion I mix it with petroleum jelly for a lip balm...it always looks great!

It says you're a grad student, but what are you studying?Whatever your dermatologist prescribed really worked, you're skin looks fantastic!That Dry Touch sunblock is the best - no greasy feel! I'm a recent hand sanitizer convert after my leg infection and now I use it several times a day. It was so nice getting to know you!
I love your beauty secret tips! And sonia kashuk is amazing. Be sure to try out some of her blushes!! I like to use false eyelash glue as double eyelid glue and using eyeshadow brushes to contour the nose!

Hey Ashley, nice to get to know you a bit better. I love using makeup in more than one way. I got this Lancome gloss that's just sparkly but not pigmented, so I have this mineral bronzer and I mixed it in with the gloss and I got the perfect nude lipgloss I've been looking for!

the only nonconventional thing i do is: conditioner as a body wash (leaves skin smooth) and an aspirin mask.
Good tip. I was going to say that body lotion and hair conditioner are interchangeable. Also, conditioner is great for shaving legs.

Great to meet you! I use olive oil as makeup remover on damp skin! It doesn't irritate the skin and makeup vanishes!
