NYX SMOKEY EYES PALETTE!

Gigi Here . . .My friend TanteJoan calls me a “palette-loving soul.” Stylemama has me pegged as well. But Sharond, honorable to a fault, exacerbated my habit—she is actually a “pusher” for Cat Cosmetics palettes! They understand my addiction; Sharond has fed it. I didn’t dream she could be duplicitous! Thus, I promise this will be the last palette review for awhile, maybe even two weeks, but detox requires baby steps.
As a young child, I began to paint and a palette was an extension of my arm. When I grew older and had less free time, irresistible mixes of makeup hues replaced paints, albeit in a rectangular or square shape. Should I confess this? Deep breath her e, Gigi, these women are your treasured friends. At one point, I was worse than Monk when it came to idiosyncrasies. I feared being put in a padded cell. I could only eat from divided Chinette foam plates, placing each item in its proper order (think of the natural nuance of colors, as in a rainbow—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black).
Thus, every course of a meal was housed in a separate divided compartment from left to right. A large dinner generally required two, three, or more plates. Food was arranged something like this: beets, carrots, yellow squash, French-cut green beans, Bleu cheese, Jello in deep lavender, steak, and caviar. That was before I sought therapy and became a member of PLA (“Palette Lovers Anonymous”). I strive to live one day at a time; I do not think of the compacts I will buy tomorrow and am content with what I have. Most of the time. Some of the time. Okay, I’m not there yet.
NYX makeup is priced so reasonably that I fear they have lost their minds. I pray they aren’t reading this and will not inflate prices. Their new “Smokey Eyes” Palette can come close to Tarte’s Day-to-Night, opulent “Heath Couture Collection” ($44.00) Kat Von D’s sultry compact in “Beethoven” ($34.00), and more for a mere $9.00. You read that right—buy it now and they’ll add a magic garden tool, onion chopper, and miracle spot remover for the same cost! (Disclaimer: That was said in jest; I teach law and do not wish to be sued at this moment. Perhaps later, but I’m not in the mood right now.)
Formulas are highly pigmented, more than with other inexpensive shadows. You know where I’m headed with this—nothing compares to brushes to gain control over how much you wish to use. (Did I ever tell you how much I emphasize using these? I believe I did.) Dark shadows work perfectly as liner, allowing those with unsteady hands to forego pencils or liquids to smolder and smudge. They last fairly long, but a primer will help to extend the color and prep your eyes as a canvas is readied for paint. A perfectly coordinated combination of soft and intense tones will take you from day to night, from “Bashful Beth” to “Sara the Siren.”
Not into smokes? There are other compacts meant specifically for your own eye color. These combine some surprising but tremendous hues. Although contrasts work best, those with blue eyes can handle variations of indigo when used in conjunction with brown, and green eyes will pop with a bit of jade or forest. Trust me—I still wear paint stains from art classes in college. If you visit www.nyxcosmetics.com, use the well-designed web site to pull the colors up close to help make a decision on what works for you. Actually, you don’t have a decision. Buy at least one. The Drugstore Dealer rules on Thursdays!
I tried the crème rouge, the kind your mother or grandmother used long ago. It has benefits. If you are attached to powder blush with Velcro, pry it off and experiment ($6.00 in a huge range of tints). A touch of crème extends your flush and leaves a natural glow, as if you’ve just enjoyed a walk on a lovely, crisp day. Powder can appear dry; crème will return you to sixteen. (I exaggerate, but get over it.)
NYX can be difficult to find. If the drugstore near you doesn’t carry it (void like mine), purchase trios at www.drugstore.com or the palette at www.cherryculture.com. My patient, saintly husband drove me two hours away to obtain it from a beauty store. We counted cows and rows of corn along the rural route (not kidding). Currently it’s out of stock at Cherry Culture; why? IT WORKS! Don’t say I didn’t tell you . . .

Thanks for featuring a cruelty-free product! I want to try some of these. :) Strike a Pose, Super Model, Versus and Secret World from the Runway Collection catch my eye. :)
I've been dying to try NYX stuff but I wish I would see it in stores somewhere! I've heard such great things about their new palettes, and products in general. Maybe next time there's a good online sale I'll just cave. I'm definitely a sucker for a palette, it helps me justify prices when I can figure out the low price per shadow (even though I never use them all). "Sure this palette is $35, but it 6 shadows, so it's less than $6 each, that's basically drugstore prices!", I tell myself, then proceed to use maybe two of the shades, when I reach for said palette at all. Sigh. With these prices I hardly nee any justification at all, though!
I am absolutely dying to try out this palette! I have some NYC singles and trios that I like well enough, but palettes seem more interesting -- if the quality is up to par. I'm glad to see these getting good reviews, since fairly often I'll cave in and buy pretty-looking stuff before checking review sites and end up with mediocre quality.
If your drugstore doesn't have NYX, look to see if there is an Ulta near you the Ulta closest to me in San Diego and the Ulta closest to my parents in Phoenix both have pretty decent NYX selections.
Love and Lipgloss,
Kathryn

I've only been to my Ulta once, it's not all that close, and I didn't notice any NYX there, but I wasn't really looking for it to be honest. It doesn't come up on the NYX site as being a seller, though. No stores show up even within 100 miles of me :(Edit: It doesn't look like Ultas show up in the search on the NYX site, so never mind on that, I guess I could call to see if they carry it.
I am international and buy my NYX from www.mscuppycakes.com It can take a little while to ship, because of 'high order volume' or something but the shipping is really cheap (even overseas). All products are real, too. I really like NYX's loose eyeshadows and have heard brilliant things about their pressed ones as well! I don't think I'd place an order for the palette though, I've already got a billion colours I need to use first!!
I love the eyeshadows from NYX! I say if I can find something cheaper and better go for it! If I can buy a palette for 9 bucks I think I'll skip on buying a single MAC shadow for 14.
I love NYX!!! I wanna get all the brown ones :) I'm international and I like shopping at MsCuppyCakes too!!!!!! They have amazing deal.
NYX's probably my fav drugstore brand right now, maybe my all time fav brand as well. It has so far never let me down!!
NYX's eyeshadows are soo great! I have one single eyeshadow in a light brown color and I adore it! It's the perfect shade, so smooth, and pigmented well. This smokey palette is definitely going on my wants list! I'm a klutz when it comes to matching colors, so having 10 put together that will all compliment each other is fabulous! And I'm lucky, the Ulta not too far from me carries NYX so I have easy access to it. Well, maybe that's not so good for my wallet... ;)
"My patient, saintly husband drove me two hours away to obtain it from a beauty store."^Wow. That's incredible, you lucky lucky lady! I may have to source these little suckers.. I'm a palette fiend as well. /Looks sheepish

I love NYX's palettes too! I have the brown eyes one and it makes a really gorgeous neutral eye with a pop of color (purple and green)! Definitely pick one up whether or not you have brown eyes - I think it's a super flattering look. The eyeshadows are super pigmented and high quality, 2 (3 if I could!!) thumbs up for it :) If anyone wants pictures or swatches let me know :D
xoxo
I only have one thing from Nyx (since I live abroad, it's harder to get my hands on their products often) and I like it. I have the sample problem about pallets, I just have way too much of them and they we all purchased this year!!! I used to hate the idea of pallets because there would always one or two shadows I'd never use. then I gave in and bought one. then I bought another. and another, and so on. Maybe I'm addicted hahaha
You definately have quite the palette obsession(paa-anyone)-but there so handy when all the colours are chosen for you-no guesswork.Had a look around the website and liked the look of the palette for brown and green eyes, also the rouge you mentioned(loved the look of at least 3)-heard a great tip lately about putting the rouge underneath the foundation for a more natural look. Also the highlight and contour kit-possibly the coolest thing ever.p.s-if there were a husband oscars-your's would take the prize.

I love NYX! I recently bought some of the eyesdadows, blush, and the much coveted shade stick like thingies. Everything is of excellent quality. I think this palette just came out very recently. Because I just saw it being put up for sale recently. You can also get NYX on the cherry culture website, www.cherryculture.com.
i was looking at these the other day on shopcraze.com and they have nyx products way cheaper than the nyx website and they shop int. I own a few of their shadows and the quality is really good although i have a few of the pearl pigments and they are the only shadow i have used with tfsi that has creased by mid afternoon.I do the same thing with palettes too. I've been checking out the mac graphic gargen palettes and i'm trying to justify the fact they are cheaper than the individual shadows but i will never wear bright green, blue or pinks and oranges so which one would i choose?
I have never used any nyx products before ( i just expected them to be like any other cheap brand) but i just browsed their website and they have some lovely things-I have to have the glitterati glitter palette!!! its gorgeous! has any one tried the glitterati palettes yet? great review!

I have to say I'm the same as you Carly I've never tired them, but looking at that makes me want to it looks gorgeous !!!
Quick Google search revealed that drugstore.com does not have this palette nor does Ulta online, but there was a great pair of shoes at zappos. Well a girl has to get some satisfaction. A couple of other sites with NYX did come up, but google does not know that if it isn't the glitterati palette, we will not be satisfied! Great review.
I definetly want to give this a try maybe that would motivate me to go and c
try learning to do a smokey eye.... I've never seen the brand in stores here so I have to go do a little hunting for it.
This looks awesome for a smokey eye. I have tried NYX yet, but I just did a swap for the moss trio, so I really excited to see if NYX is as great as everyone says it is. 9usd is really cheap for something like this. I'm sure I'll soon become addicted.
I love NYX and lately they have really been stepping up their game. To me, and it's said a lot, the single eyeshadows are usually better than the trios in terms of pigmentation. I've looked up a few reviews on youtube though about these palettes and they look amazing. I can't wait to get some of these palettes and some more of the round lipsticks-they can not be beat!
Oh yea they have great lasting power and the colors are perfect for just about any eyecolor believe me I had a makeup party before my girls and I went out and they all tried my pallette with thier own applicators!
;) Gloss & Gum <3
I have purchased some NYX pigments from Cherry Culture and was pleasantly surprised. They come in great variety of colors and quality is just as good as MAC... I think they only costs a buck each plus shipping but maybe that was promotion price. I am all for buying makeup that is discounted- there are only so many color variations in this world, and I really dont want to pay 50 bucks for a palette when I can find one for under 10, with similar colors.
When a man will drive you 2 hours to buy a make-up palette, you gotta know you married the right guy! Way to go, Gigi. I also love palettes - although I can't draw so much as a stick figure. It sort of reminds me of the nice part of kindergarten (not the horrible Tante Schneider who traumatized my brother and I for life by making us eat custard with skin on it). I love finger painting, and crayons - there's something about multi-colours that makes me think of that.....the colours in this palette are just gorgeous. I would be happy just looking at them, and swatching them on my wrist, but what fun could you have wearing them? A girl can never have too many palettes, so don't even think about things like that....

The palette looks fantastic! There is one drug store in my city where I have found NYX. They have a very small selection so I doubt they will have this. Plus in Canada we don't seem to get a lot of products that the States have. I will keep my eye peeled for this one!I have never tried anything from NYX, also because I just recently saw the line at this particular store. I may look into this line in the future!
Hah! I have it. I love it. Drugstore Deals Rulz!
I bought this at ulta and i love it.
I got quite a few of these when the NYX site had them for 4.50, and they're well worth it. I don't have the Smokey eye one yet, but it looks like one to try. All of the palettes are pretty intensely pigmented and work well for traveling.
http://www.swatchstorm.blogspot.com
ive heard alot about this line. if it's highly pigmented, it's for me! i think this may be my go-to line as im not working anymore and i cant afford mac while im doing my internship.

I love to use my face, especially my eyes, as a canvas. So like Gigi says, palettes can be addicting and as for feeding her addiction by plying her with Cat Cosmetic palettes, well, I won't even go there. I have not yet tried this brand as our local drug store chain, Walgreens, doesn't seem to carry it. I wish we had more adventurous drug store chains, like the old Longs chain that left our state, however I live with what we got and "order in" for the rest. I still love Cat Cosmetics, Ulta Tote Palettes (great deal with outstanding price) and Mark by Avon. I always turn to these three brands as I know they will do what my artist brush wants them to do. They are rich in color, long lasting and blend easily. Still these NYX sound like something to add to the mix.
after hearing so much about NYX Cosmetics i want to try it but it so hard to find it
i love NYX shadows! they are so creamy and pigmented. and what a freakin' deal for an eyeshadow palette. when i want makeup and low on cash, i definitely buy NYX cosmetics because the quality is great.

Yet another wonderful review from my beautiful artist friend! Of course you adore palettes. Your heart is meant to be an artist! This palette looks stunning. I totally had my eye on the Kat Von D palette that looks exactly like this one. Of course this is the one that I can afford. So thank you for making my smoky blue dreams come true! I only hope that I can find this before it is all gone. I know that you will start a run on this Gigi! Your reviews predict market trends. I wonder if Ulta will carry these.
I actually have the smokey eye and 2 other palettes I got when they first came out and were $4.50 apiece and honestly. I'm really not a fan of them, mine dont seem to be that pigmented. I use UDPP and also use the NYX jumbo eye pencils as well and just cant get much color to show up. I'm glad I didnt pay full price. I'll still take them on trips since they are nicely packaged and I dont want to have to lug my mineral e/s collection all over the place. Thanks for the review, glad they worked for you!
I love NYX shadows! I have the catwalk palette and I love it, I will be ordering a few more, including the smokey palette! The color payoff is great and the price is incredible! I'm addicted to NYX!
NYX is a great line. The colors are great . . . I love that we have so many options these days in a variety of price points and locations. In my area you can find this brand at ULTA and Fred Meyer.
I really like NYX e/s and this one palette looks awsome ! but does that come with instruction? cause I love SMOKEY EYES but lol I can't never do somthing GOOD =( Sephora made a smokey eyes palette too but more expensive ! of course !

That's right Gigi, I have you pegged. That tends to happen here. Scary, isn't it? I love, love, love palettes too! I never knew I did until Gigi had me drooling over them. I think it had something to do with her writing style. It's as if her fingers hit the keyboard and then an instant message gets sent directly to my brain and I am powerless to fight it. MUST....DO.....AS......GIGI......SAYS....Repeat.....MUST....DO.....You get the idea. The drug store price makes the pay off even sweeter, thanks sistah, I can't wait to meet this sexy little palette.
I love NYX, I have some shadows and glosses and jumbo pencils. I love the shadows, so pigmented...very close to MAC type pigment for a fraction of the price. This kit looks great, I love smokey eyes and those colors look gorgeous.
I haven't tried these particular palettes, but the NYX trio palettes, and the NYX eyeshadow singles are fantastic quality. I wish I'd grabbed some when they're on sale! :(Megheads--just FYI, the NYX site tends to have their new stuff for 50% off, but you have to catch the sale real quick! :P The sale for these palettes is over unfortunatley :(
♥ Lipgloss and Spandex: a blog for gals who look good and run fast
I am obsessed with NYX cosmetics! I own their eye and lip jumbo pencils, cream blushes, single eyeshadows, trio eyeshadows and lip glosses. I love them all! It is just such high quality at a great price. I hated having to pay shipping for it but I recently found a NYX store near me! They don't carry these palettes though. I really want to try these new palettes but I'm afraid if I like one, I'll buy them all! lol. They seem so perfect for traveling. Hopefully I will get a chance to try them soon. Thanks for the great review!
I LOVE NYX.. i do .. their stuff is soo awesome. currently i only have a few singles but their pigments are next on my list and after that their palettes. I can't wait... they're so reasonably priced and have a great selection of colors.. sometimes it's almost too good to be true.
Thank you for the review. That palette seems to contain just about all colours I could wish for in grey. A must have, definitely.Didn't Makeupmasala use to carry NYX? I'm rather sure she did, and now when I want to try it it seems she doesn't any longer.
I have to admit... this looks like one of those cheap-o things that Seventeen magazine sends out free sometimes with a mag subscription. That's the first thought I had. But this is definately higher quality stuff than the no-name stuff Seventeen mag sends. I LOVE the smokey eye look. It's like my signature look. I will have to add this to my collection!
does anyone know if i can get this in shops in the uk (i think we can but im not sure?!) if so then where? thanks ladies! x

I think superdrug sells NYX so try there :-)
Dang it, I had my cart filled during the NYX sale and compeletely forgot about it til it was over and have been kicking myself ever since!! My Ulta carries NYX but not the palettes. Maybe soon...?

I accidentally discovered NYX maybe 5 years ago in a little store. I have been seriously loving them ever since. They make some of the best, if not the best, drug store price range cosmetics out there.Their lip glosses are fabulously pigmented. So are their lipsticks. They eye shadows are my favorite. They're definitely on par with more expensive brands like MAC. They're some of the most pigmented colors around. I don't have this palette, but I considered buying it. I do have two of their Runway collection palettes, which I use ALL the time. The colors are very good. Very wearable. They're so cheap too. Definitely worth checking out.
Thanks for the review. I've been trying out a few of NYX's eyeshadows and they're pretty good. Pigmented. That's a must when it comes to eyeshadows. It's a great alternative to MAC eyeshadows if you're on a budget. I have yet to try this eye palette and for that price...you can't go wrong. Next paycheck!
I keep hearing how great the eyeshadow from NYX is and will definitely be looking for them at all the local drug stores, thank you.
