lumene
Sweetassgal here MUCH more relaxed and better equipped to handle life this week than I was in my recent "stress marathon".  I was serious when I said I needed to find something...anything...to relieve my stress or else I would've ended up running down the street in my bathrobe with toilet brush in hand screaming inaudible obscenities ala' Cameron Diaz in "Very Bad Things".  Very bad thing indeed!  That's not for this gal (though I love that wicked movie!).

So what am I doing differently that's bringing true value and peace of mind/body to my life?

First off...Yoga.  It has only been a week but I've done it every day (sometimes twice for morning and before bed) and I can't begin to tell you how much more relaxed I've been.  I don't rush around the house like a mad woman in the morning.  I glide...effortlessly and without my typical frenzied malice.  I breathe...the kind of deep, penetrating cleansing breaths that make you aware of every fiber of your being.  I drink decaf herbal tea...no more caffeinated drinks for me right now and I make it an experience; not slamming down a cup of Java-Joe while I eat my toast over the sink.  I use essential oils.  In my bath, on my body, throughout my house and at work in places where I need to feel centered.  I take time to be with just me.  Yes Megheads...I'm being selfish.  And I've earned it.

The ONE area I will not pare down is of course makeup.  If my vanity is any indication of that then all one needs to do is peek in my bathroom to survey the extreme folly of my affliction.  But I have become a fan of products that do 3-in-1 or make some aspect of my life simpler so it is that which I will focus on today.

Lumene is a company I've been a warm fan of for a while now (their Vitamin C Radiant Drops are not to be missed...LOVE THEM) but they aren't exactly "green".  Kind of more sagey-grey.  So just for today its Sagey-grey Chi Tuesdays...ok?!  They do use wonderful natural ingredients such as hand-picked wild, arctic berries in their beauty products.  Based in Finland, they also use ingredients like arctic peat, arctic linen, arctic birch, arctic heather and arctic minerals.  Lumene believes in sustainability, sustainable production and minimal waste while not testing on animals.  All of which is well and good and I applaud those efforts.  However, most do contain parabens and though they strive for 80% use of natural ingredients; those ingredients are in no way certified organic.

Alongside the Vit C drops I always keep a pack of Lumene's Express Touch Cleansing Wipes around.  These little self seal packets of 10 wipes are perfect for keeping in your car, gym bag or even in your potting shed outside for those sweltering summer days.  I have little stashes all over.  Containing Oat milk and no alcohol they are super soft, mildly cleansing and very, very hydrating.  I really like them for on the go touch ups when I don't want to remove my eye makeup but I do need a skin pick me up after working out or just working hard.  I hate to feel sweaty on my face and these do the trick in a snap...and much better than a face full of scratchy gym paper towels!  It says online that they even remove waterproof makeup but I think that's going too far.  I don't actually find them that effective on heavy eye makeup so I don't rely on them for morning and night cleansing.  Just when I need a "fresh canvas" in the day time.  Oh...and if I'm carrying around a little afternoon funk during a Sac summer I break one out to hit the pits!  I look funny doing that in the bathroom at work but I smell powder fresh all day.  I know a few people that I'd be GLAD to lend a pack to!

Find ways to eliminate what isn't needed in your life and find products like Lumene's wipes that enhance it.  I'm defining "value" quite differently these days.  It's not the $2.99 for a pack of 10 that is the value...it's the way they make me feel when I've accomplished a tough chore outside and reward my skin with a soft bath of Oat milk loveliness!  Reward yourself.  Be it with Yoga, scented oils and candles, a darling new lip gloss or just a few minutes ALONE to "be with myself and center, clarity, peace, serenity" (hhmmm...is Fergie able do that when Josh is around to distract her!?) I beseech you to carve out these kinds of moments for yourself.  Especially our Megs Mom's who have the hardest job in the world.  But trust me; if you don't take care of yourself just a little...you won't be around mentally to take care of them A LOT!  The light within me honors the light within you.  Namaste and GLAM ON!!!

Any other yogi's out there? Who loves Lumene?

Buy it here!

I haven't done yoga for a long time but I know when I was doing it, I felt GREAT!!!!!! It is relaxing and also a good workout. I need to get back to doing it but I don't wanna pay gym fees and I'm not motivated enough to do it at home....maybe today I will do that!I always want to try the Lumene Vitamin C drops when I pass them in CVS but I didn't know anyone else that used them to give me a recommendation, what exactly do they do to your skin?

The Vit C drops work like little to-go packs of Vitamin C infused primer.  They literally fill in your fine wrinkles, moisturize your skin and give you a soft golden glow.  I use them on Sundays when I don't wear makeup so my skin at least looks fresh and I pack some in a baggie when I travel so I don't have to take my Vit C drops and an ENTIRE tube of primer and a moisturizer with me.  Three products in ONE and the tiny droplets take up NO room.  Each droplet is enough for face and throat application one time.Get them...you'll love them even if you don't use them every day.  I've recommended them to many and everyone ADORES how they make their skin look.  Oh...and don't confuse the drops with the creme.  The drops are better!  Enjoy!

I discovered yoga 10 years ago (*gasp*)!  It has been the one constant activity in my life that has kept me grounded and centered during the most stressful times in my life this past decade.   My hubby is also a yogi, so we encourage each other to practice as much as possible.   It is so nice that we have each other as motivation to practice when we don't have the energy.  SAG -- please don't say that you are being selfish for taking time for yourself.   When you take care of yourself, it will always help you better take care of others.  As for Lumene, I am currently using their eye makeup remover.  It removes my waterproof makeup with one swipe.   It is extremely effective and natural.  I love it!  Namaste and glam on! :)

You love your crazy movies don't you, Christian Slater was so bad in that movie. The movie "Hangover" that came out reminds me of that movie, without the dead hooker of course. I'd love to try yoga again. I gave it a try last November but couldn't find time to do it regularly.

I do loves me some dark movies.  I think I was the only person in the theater who laughed every time someone got killed!I've been dragging my butt out of bed a half hour earlier and doing the tapes at home (not in public...GOD no!).  It was hard the first few days but I could either get out of bed, do the yoga and feel better the whole day or I could sleep a half hour more, get out of bed all stiff and achy and feel like crap the whole day.It was a no brainer right away.

SAG--good for you for taking time to yourself! It makes you more efficient and calm the rest of the day, so it's totally worth it :)I haven't done Yoga since college, when I had free classes. But right now running and working out definitely help me feel good physically and feel good mentally. But really, what I need to do is precisely what you said: "Find ways to eliminate what isn't needed in your life and find products like Lumene's wipes that enhance it." This also applies to my eating habits (really, did I need 4 brownies last night? Even if they were made with black beans?), and same with my possessions (do I really need all of those $7 pairs of shoes that I thought were great at the time, but kill my feet and are a little tacky?) etc. After I go on vacation, I definitely need to work on getting ready for a garage sale/massive Goodwill donation!

I've started off with a DVD at home...that way I can learn in privacy and when I want to...not according to a gym schedule.  All you need is about 8 feet of comfortable space on your floor and you're good.  I haven't invested in pricey mats and stuff....yet.The DVD I got was AM / PM Yoga for beginners.  Its really basic, super easy and totally relaxing.  One for the morning helps you relax stiff muscles from sleeping all night and the other for night time to relieve stress and help you get to sleep.  They are wonderful to do both every day or just one if the mood strikes you.  It's up to you.  The first time you do it I felt a little awkward but that goes away with just a few practice days and soon you find yourself VERY in tuned to your body and wishing the 30 minutes lasted longer! Here's the link to buy on Amazon for $8.http://www.amazon.com/Element-Am-PM-Yoga-Beginners/dp/B001AYWY68/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1248811327&sr=1-2

Oh that scene in 'Very Bad Things' has stayed with me since I first saw it. It's one of my favorite scenes in a movie ever. Lumene rings a bell - I think we may have it here, but I'll have to look into it to be sure. Breathe and stretch on SWG - great review!

Those face wires sound really nice. Do they remove all your m/u? I would rather not have to take off my m/u during the day because I would just have to reapply it. It would be nice for the morning though.

They do take off all my face makeup...just not eye makeup comepletely.  If I'm just a little oily I'd rather use my Jane Iredale oil control papers to dab the oil and reapply a little powder.  But on days when I can't stand the sweat on my face I'll bust out one of these babies and get the sweat and old makeup off.  Then I typically follow with a little light powder but don't fully make my skin back up again.  These aren't for your average day at work to clean. I use them on the weekends after working in the yard and after going to the gym for a pick me up.  I wouldn't recommend them for evening cleansing to get everything off.  If you've washed your face the night before though they might work just fine if you have just mildly combo or dry skin.

sweetassgal... you should try HOT YOGA or a hot vinyasa class (i'm not a fan of bikhram poses tho but it's hot also).  it's the most relaxing and challenging.... you sweat every single thing you could possibly sweat out of you... and feel incredibly clean and light afterwards....

Great write-up Angie! I am really glad that you are taking the time to relax. I suppose that I need to do the same. I hate to think that my stress is affecting other people around me. I am going to look into the Yoga DVD that you have mentioned. I am not sure how it will work for me as I am a spaz! And I know that you have been recommending the Lumene drops for a very long time now. Maybe I need to break down and just do it! Keep us informed about the relaxation. It inspires me!!

I do the downward dog! LOL! I've been enjoying my vinyasa yoga class. The instructor is great - first time to ever have a man but he is so focused and has great energy. He can do that pose where you are standing on your hands and your feet are dangling around the ears! He gives modification poses... thank goodness.

Thanks for the rec on the Vit. C drops! Lumene is a new brand for me. Just Friday, I picked up their Time Freeze Instant Cooling Eye Stick. A bit pricey for the mere .17 oz but it does the trick. It soothes my tired eyes which is what I need when staying up too late during the work week. I find myself reaching for a lot.I miss yoga. I should sign up for another class soon!:)

Haha wow first off that movie is crazy awesome ironically I just saw it the other day with some friends!  I'm sure had you went on a rampage like that the neighbors would know who's top dog in town :PYay for yoga!  I always loved pilates and figured it was the same thing... oh no my friend was i wrong.  Definitely helps with the stress, ever try meditation too?  I recently started that and let me tell you with all the stress i'm juggling definitely is a great therapy.  Retail therapy I love but can't afford :)I'm glad you made the changes you have, we should all be selfish like that esp since we've earned it!  :P I too quit the caffeinated drinks it's crazy at first it was as if it was my drug feeling withdraws but I am more mellow and refreshed. Thanks for this post i've been looking for a new, refreshing, and effective face wipes.  I had be using the cucumber wipes both the walmart and dove brand but I think my skin is getting irritated by them though they are pretty good on heavy eye makeup.  The only thing i've tried from Lumene is the blueberry curl mascara which I love and now i'm intrigued to try the skin care stuff.  It's one of those brands that you always see and curious to try but for some reason never have bought yet.  LOL i'm most def a yogi maybe soon a Lumene lover as well :)

Being from and living in Finland I have always used Lumene and there are many products of theirs I love. However as you say they aren't exactly natural make up and that is of course a minus, hopefully they will go even more in the natural and green direction in the future. The Vitamin C range has been one of my favourites lately and I have used many of the products from that range. I think I mentioned somewhere else on this site how they feel light on the skin and refreshing too.

I once tried doing a Yoga for beginners DVD at home.  My very funny husband came out one morning, took one look at me and said, "ahhh, honey, I don't think your doing it right, aren't your legs supposed to be up a little higher?"  It was very funny. I assured him that Yoga was harder than it looked.  At least it was for me.   I've always wanted to take a class with an actual instructor but have been too intimidated by the idea.  I am very happy you are feeling better Angie, you have given all of us a lot to think about. The Lumene line sounds amazing, especially the radiant drops.  Do you think my super sensitive skin can handle them?

Sweetass Gal, thank you for the great post. I will be getting some Lumene asap. I did yoga before and miss it, I still meditate. When you're stressed out, heat soy milk (milk if you do dairy) w/ a pinch of lavender and honey to taste, steep 3-5 min, strain if you didn't use a tea diffuser, and sip. You'll sleep like a angel is cradling you in her soft cloud like wings.I live in the heat of the San Joaquin Valley, not too far from Sac. The wipes you mentioned sounds like just the thing for this heat!!! Namaste.

SAG-First of all I,m glad to hear you kicked your stress's ass so fast, you bounce back quickly,if I had all that on my plate I'd probabely still be rocking back and forth in a darkened room. The vitamin c drops sound just the thing for my skin as it can be very dull,I used to use the elizabeth arden skin illuminating complex years ago but it was discontinued and bought a cream with vit c in it from the body shop but it gave me spot's,I think this would be better because serum's just seem to suit my skin.I'm also glad to hear the oat infused face wipes work well because I usually balk at trying a new brand of facial wipe until I know it work's.I usually love everything mac but I once bought their facial wipes and they were rubbish, really dry.

I've seen Lumene products in Ulta. I love yoga! I have a year membership to my local Hot Yoga studio, and will most likely get one for next year, too! It's hard work, but I feel so great after a practice! (Not dead tired like after a "normal" work out.) I love that I'm getting so many benefits out of yoga: internal and external fitness, mental balance, healing bonuses, flexibility, etc.For all of you ladies who are worried about going to a studio, STOP the worrying! Remember that while videos are great, there are many important things to be learned from an instructor. You might not be in proper alignment when you do certain poses. (Improper positioning creates bad habits and can be very harmful to joints.) An instructor may give you one little piece of info that will be the light bulb you need to fix a pose or to excel to a more difficult one. They can also push you a little harder if they see you're ready. In my classes, there are young, old, thin, overweight, men, women, beginners, and advanced. When you're in your practice, it is not a competition between anyone else in the room but yourself. There are always easier and harder modifications for poses: do what YOU can. In fact, I really admire all the people in class that don't "fit the picture" of who people would expect to see in yoga. I see the thin women who can get away with wearing their sports bras in class to the retired Navy captains (men) with the gray hair and slight potbellies to the people, who in medical terms, would be considered obese. Bravo to everybody! And you know, I really don't know how all these people get on in class, because I'm focusing on myself, but I think they are all amazing for being there. Furthermore, I see them returning, so they must be having good experiences.See, Ladies, you all can do it!!! (Interesting piece of info: I've read somewhere that people do not look at you or judge you as much as you think or feel that they do. Most people are preoccupied with other things and don't really think much of what you're doing... Of course, that assumes you're not showing up to class dressed like a chicken or in a wedding dress, or covered in green paint...:)) Namaste

I own Lumene's Blueberry Curl Mascara and it has become a staple in my daily makeup routine. I use it after I apply a volume mascara. The wand is awesome and helps separate the lashes wonderfully.I also got a free makeup remover and it leaves my skin a bit oily but works well.

I used to yoga whenever I was in school. It's seriously the most relaxing thing ever. I should buy some DVDs and do it at home. I could use some de-stressing.I've never tried any of Lumene's skin care products, but I am soooo in love with their Blueberry Curl Mascara. Best stuff I've ever had. Hands down. It makes my lashes curl like crazy. Plus it elongates, separates, and also makes my lashes look so much fuller. I love it. I hopefully never have to live with out it..haha :)
