DIY PORE STRIPS!

Sweetassgal here bringing you another SUPER affordable Do It Yourself that is completely natural and well...let's face it...just totally cool!
Confession time...I'm obsessed with my skin. Closer to the truth, I'm obsessed with the stuff that resides in the pores of my skin. Yes folks...I'm a pimple picker. I know many of you will be shrieking a collective "GROSS" when you read that but for those of you who share my obsession you will truly understand that the little blackhead taking up residence on the side of my nose is going to require an immediate eviction! I am endlessly fascinated by whatever may come out of my pores and there is nothing I can do to stop myself. I've been yelled at my entire life, first by my well meaning mother, then my friends and now by my husband. In fact, he knows exactly how long it takes me to use the ladies room and if I linger even 5 seconds longer in there he yells "QUIT picking!" through the door. Busted again.
My fascination for a highly charged game of Get That Blackhead was reinforced some years back when a brilliant little invention his the aisles of my local Rite Aid...the Biore Pore strip. Pure unadulterated genius! Not only can I remove all of those nasty little black buggers from my pores without bruising my skin, but I also get the added bonus of checking out the little spiny remnants that cling to this little piece of magic. Come on now...who hasn't tried one of these and stared with bewitched delight at the proof of their effectiveness? Seriously, it's half the fun!!
Problem is, these little suckers are spendy. A six pack of the Ultra Strips sells for $7.99 which works out to $1.33 a strip! Madness people. Sheer madness. But what's a girl to do because to my knowledge Biore has cornered the market and they've got us by the nose. Literally! Well people...put down that debit card because I've got a DIY pore strip recipe for you that is pennies (and I do mean those little copper things you don't even bother to bend over and pick up on the street anymore) just pennies a use!
1/2 Teaspoon Knox unflavored gelatin (should be available in the Jello aisle most likely sold on the top shelf above the flavored gelatins)
1 Teaspoon of milk
Stir together and microwave for 10 seconds to warm. Using a clean cosmetic brush (I use my foundation brush) apply the mixture somewhat heavily to your nose and chin avoiding your eyes. Wash out your brush right away so that it doesn't harden and ruin the bristles. Let it dry for approximately 20 minutes to completely harden. Once its completely dry simply peel off the strip and voila...clean pores at next to NO cost at all!
One box of Knox gelatin is just $2 with four packets inside. Each packet will make 5 batches with enough to cover your chin and nose (and maybe even a buddies too) which comes to a whopping total of 10 cents a treatment or 5 cents each nose and chin strip! I would recommend putting a warm washcloth on your face prior to applying the mix just to loosen the debris and aid in removal. And don't forget to follow up with a great mask like Organic Apoteke's Rejuvenating Face mask!!! Just one caveat...natural gelatin doesn't smell the greatest but the scent went away after a few minutes. Mix up a batch, leave your experience on Megs and let us know if a DIY pore strip is as effective as it is economical! GLAM ON!!!

Wow. That is a very clever and innovative idea. I would have never expected that. Great post.
I sell the hottest makeup around. visit my mark store: http://kvalentine.mymarkstore.com/
You are so right! Blackheads I should say are every girl's nightmare, or should I say every girl with 'oily pore-filled' icky skin! Really, I think I am going to love this product, coz yes I do tend to pick too, and don't think that helps at all. So yes, will be trying this one out soon...
its funny cuz i saw this post and i was like "hey! michelle phan recently did a video about this!" i wonder if she got the idea from here. either way can't wait to try it.
Youtube:http://www.youtube.com/user/manchita23?feature=mhum
jell-o is very useful it can be made into a lipstain with just a spoon of water and powder for the nice red lip look or whatever jell-o colors there are but it stains like crazy so dont aply with fingers!
ooh yeah i heard about this from michellephan on youtube.. someone said it smelled bad, but i wouldnt care-- i am going to try this today!!! off to buy gelatine
who loves makeup? me me ME!
i just tried it with my bf as my guinea pig aswell its really painful and didnt take too much out of my pores just the lil baby blackheads and im still feelin the hurt. my skin is smooth though maybe once it stops burning ill see results but ive seen much gentler pore strip recipies on youtube. its my first pore strip attempt maybe i didnt do it correctly but it just didnt work for me and my bf has HUMONGEROUS blackheads which i take sick pleasure of squeezing when he gives permission lol but it made some of my popped zits get smaller but man its still burning i did it an hour ago it didnt peel off as one strip maybe if i used toilet paper as a medium. i dunno but next recipe im trying is egg whites with toiletpaper it seems a lil less hurtfull to peel off and cheaper cause almost everyone has eggs and a tush to wipe lolz also i just watched michellephans vid and it says 10 mins i guess i waited the 20min and it was way too dry ill have to try again and ill add TP its only a dollar for the gelatin so i wasted 2 (forgot to micro and squished gelatincake on bfs nose thinking it would work)
wow.. this is a great article/recipe.!! A print and try is a must here..
Ooh great idea! I like the Biore strips but they are sooo expensive! My pores don't get clogged so much now that I've switched my skincare routine, but this is good to know!
Just printed and def. plan on using! Thanks!!
Will have to give this a try-thanks!
definately gonna give this thing a try no matter how weird it sounds....anything to get rid of blackheads!!
didi
im gonna have to try this next time i go to the store and see how it works
It works just as well as the pore strips you buy!
this sounds so cool. Must try tomorrow. I always have gelitin in the house
So happy I accidentally found this post! Can't wait to try it & will post my results. I was always wishing that Biore would come out with an "entire face" pore cleansing strip, because cutting the strips into bits and pieces to fit everywhere I had blackeads was getting really annoying. I'm hoping this gelatin treatment works, because it will be easy to apply anywhere on the face.

I totally tried this, the first time I did it I put it on my cheeks too...lets just say it was painful! but it really clears up the pores on your nose! I like to heat up the area with a warm cloth then apply the pore strip. After I peel it I use an old tooth brush that i don't use any more and add a cleanser and gently rub it on my face
I gave this a try yesterday. It smelled bad but it worked great! Thanks a lot. Now I don't have to waste $5 on a box that just have 6 strips. =)
I think this is about to make my life so much better! Thank you!
Thank you SO much for posting this! I have tried so many ways to get rid of blackheads, and this works wonders. My face is extremely oily, and it seems that no ammount of exfoliation or toners will get red of those little black pests. I've tried other 'natural' treatments (smashing tomatoes & rubbing them on, smearing egg whites on my face and letting newspaper dry over the top to lift away blackheads) both of which failed. When I saw this Knox Gelatin idea a couple of weeks ago, I tried it a few days after reading the post. Unfortunately, I whipped up the mixture from memory, and used water instead of milk. BIG mistake! Haha it dried to a very hard and difficult to remove paste. I logged into my laptop and felt incredibly stupid! So...the next week I did it the right way, and used 2% milk. Wow, was I amazed at all the junk that came out of my pores!! I applied it on my forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. My skin felt amazingly clean after peeling it away. A few tips... If you thinly apply the mixture, it is tough to remove. But, if you apply it in a somewhat thick layer, so it looks like a pale white coating, it peels off in bigger chunks during removal. Also, I used a hair dryer on a cool setting to hasten the dry time to about 15 minutes. I exfoliated my face first, then did a 2 minute steam to really open up the pores. If you have sensitive skin, I would recommend testing it on a small area to see if it causes redness. My skin is not sensitive at all, and it did hurt a bit when peeling it away on the softer areas of skin, like my cheeks. The pain and redness went away in a couple of minutes. Don't get it near your eyebrows either, it will rip them out! Anyways, this is THE BEST way ever to get rid of blackheads. And so insanely cheap - I couldn't be more happy with the results. Professional facials I've paid hundreds for haven't cleaned my pores nearly this well. Thanks again for posting this!!

Genious recipe, never had much luck with the Biore pore strips, but maybe these will work better :)
been using this for months after seeing it on youtube and it stinks to high heaven and dosent work on me!
i do this too!! but it smells sooooooooooo bad! it does work great though, and so much cheaper than pore strips!
I remember seeing a makeup guru do this same type of diy pore strips. I may have to try it out one day! :)
Has anyone ever tried this? Not yet, but I DEFINETLY WILL!!!
This is so cool!
I must try this! I love the results of pore strips but as a poor college student, I can't afford them!
This sounds really interesting to try! I use the biore pore strips, though I do get lazy with them, partly because I want to save them since they are costly. I also use a pore cleansing scrub and face wash, but I'll definitely give this a try!
I'm not sure if I am up for DIY! SOunds interesting though! I am just so unco with everything! lol

WOW :)
I did this yesterday! LOVE it, and you're so right.. the gelatin smells awful, haha. Did the job though. :)

I tried this just now and I definitely won't be buying Bioré strips again! interestingly enough, I didn't see any blackheads come off on the "strip", but there weren't any noticeable ones on my face to begin with. I guess I squeezed them all out beforehand -_- but my face definitely felt more clean. plus I like how it can be used on any part of the face! I used it on my nose, the sides of my nose (like out to where the outside corners of my eyes are), my forehead, between the eyebrows, and my chin. yay
hi I'm michelle :)
I'm so excited to meet some "pickers" that actually admit that they pick! I too have been chastised for the amount of time I spend picking at my face - even when there is nothing there. I doubt that this recipe will keep me and my extractor apart, but I like the idea of spending less to do a simple DIY job! Thanks for the tip!
In love and lipgloss~twotoneshoes93
I tried this, can't say I saw any thing on the strip, but I did feel 'cleaner' I'll give it a few tries before dismissing it :)
I've tried all kinds of pore strips but none of them really worked. Finally, I tried Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) and that really worked to remove all my blackheads and dead sebum. It really is amazing, I OCM everyday and tons of gunk come out of my pores.
http://kookith.wordpress.com/
Just finished! Well....the removal is a bit rough, but REALLY fun! It did clean the oil and dust. Probably I have to do it a week day after day, to remove the big ones... Because one time - wasn't enough, and there's still a lot left to pick. But it did a very good job on the small ones! Thanks for the tip! :)
This amazing!! I totally relate about being fascinated with the gunk in your pores! If I don't squeeze it out or pull it out then it's just going to sit there and that is gross!! I can't wait to try this - I'm going to the store tomorrow and while hubby is at work I'm trying this. He fusses at me too about picking, but then he just doesn't do anything about his blackheads which really bugs me!!
I actually just use non-toxic glue. It's the same thing except already made for you and WAYY cheap!Works wonders!
I tried this a few years ago because I had read it in a book somewhere. Maybe I did it wrong, but it did not work for me at all... and it hurt to peel off, even worse than actual pore strips.Maybe, I'll give it a try again...
This is interesting.. I may have to try this. I must point out that those biore strips don't work for me! blackheads are still here!
Fabulous idea! I like the Biore Pore Strips but like you said, they are quite pricey! Thanks for this DIY option! :)Please check out my Beauty Blog if you have a chance!http://beautymark3d.blogspot.com/
sounds super cool!!! I love DIY facial treatments.. the strips you buy do work wonders for extracting those little bugger black heads.. this way it is cheaper and fund to do..
I cant wait to try this. DOnt have any Knox but will get some at the store ASAP. Regular pore strips dont work for me, but maybe this will!
That sounds awesome! Am very lucky, have never had a big spot problem, phew, but as I get older, I notice that whilst I escaped that, at the same time, I don't have quite the totally smooth pores aspect I had when younger - especially nose and cheeks. Am so looking forward to trying this and getting that smooth pore nose look! Eeee!
Pretty is as pretty does - so get your sashay on!
This actually sounds way too good to be true! I've had blackheads and acne since I hit puberty I think, and it's so exhausting trying a bunch of different stuff. I guess I need to give this a try.
WOW....I'M DEF GONNA TRY THIS... I use the Biore strips all the time....!
i've tried this and it does work as well as the pore strips. sadly, neither work that great...but it is a dang good cheap alternative. maybe i will try the elmer's glue...or save up for a clarisonic :) my blackheads are better using bha's and aha's and occ masks, cleansing oil and physical exfoliators but oh, to be rid of them once and for all...
