ECOTOOLS BAMBOO SIX PIECE BRUSH SET!
Sweetassgal here! today bringing you an eco-friendly and economical beauty find this Green Chi Tuesday!
Like the rest of the country, my money is not to be spent willy nilly these days so I had to control myself recently on my tri-annual pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Or as you folks call it...to Sephora. I really do need some new makeup brushes because I always seem to me applying my makeup in the car these days and I need a basic set for al fresco application. I meandered over to their brush section and started counting up the tally...face brush $35, concealer $22, medium eye $20 and angle eye $18 for a grand total of $95. One quick butt pucker later and I was retreating from the store with my Korres sample in one hand and my food court cherry lemonade in the other.
Now, I know that any makeup artist worth their salt will tell you that good brushes are an investment and they are absolutely right. But lets face it...I'm not exactly painting a Picasso on my face (though I wake up looking like I did if I neglect my nightly regime) and right now my financial status is about as stable as Chris Brown's endorsement career. So though I love my original set of Sephora brushes I needed to find a more pocket friendly option to get by until this bizzaro world I'm living in where food and mortgage come before makeup and shoes corrects itself. The answer happily presented itself a few days later at Walgreens of all places in the form of the EcoTools Bamboo Six Piece Brush Set.
Being the Green Chi reviewer this immediately caught my eye. The kit is complete with a blush brush (which I will use as a loose powder brush since I don't wear blush) eye shading and eyeliner brush, concealer and lash & brow brush all wrapped up in a natural cotton and hemp case for just $12! Obviously these have to be junky trash tools...right? Even I recognize that $12 spent on junk is WAY worse than $95 spent on quality so tempting the shoplifter-busting gods I broke into the seal at the top of the case and pulled them out of the package to get a better look. I was truly in awe of how SOFT these cruelty free brushes made of synthetic taklon were and how graceful the bamboo handles felt in my hands. Bamboo has a low impact on our earth's resources and is a highly sustainable plant so it's a wonderful choice for an elegant looking tool. Satisfied with the overall quality I sealed the pack back up and plunked my $12 on the counter before they hauled me off to the pokey for petty thievery.
Home to test I was thoroughly impressed. These brushes distribute your powders and colors evenly and glide effortlessly across your skin. The handles are secure and the brushes DO NOT SHED which is usually the case with inexpensive junk brushes. I've been using them for two weeks now and they have held up marvelously and wash easily with warm water and a mild soap. I love the fact that they are made from recycled and sustainable products and that the brushes aren't animal hair. I'm a HUGE animal lover and I read an article a while back about the production of most animal hair brushes in China, where there are no regulations against cruelty that was mortifying. After that I can't imagine dragging a brush across my eyelid knowing the hair was yanked out of an innocent animal (insert shudder here).
I checked online and bought individually these EcoTools brushes would total $30 so it behooves you to seek out the 6 piece pack (note the brush case counts as 1...I embarrassingly spent a few minutes looking for the 6th brush!) for the best value. Get them before EcoTools realizes what a great thing they've got going and jacks up the pack price! They have them at Target, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Ulta as well as online. I've checked out many, many of the reviews on drugstore.com and Walgreens.com and everyone says the same thing...extremely high quality environmentally friendly brushes at prices that are literally a steal. I certainly feel that way and am still waiting for those shoplifter-busting gods to catch up with me any day now charging me for beautifying with a non-deadly weapon! GLAM ON!!! Have you ladies found any nice brush sets that don't break the bank? Any thoughts on EcoTools? EcoTools-Buy It Here!

Great advice! Brushes "make or break" your look. What you think is unwearable can turn out to be your favorite product when used with a brush. This set IS a steal. I was turning to craft stores to buy artists' brushes because of the obscene prices of some brands, but these are outstanding. Don't forget--wash in a gentle soap regularly to avoid contamination.
Got 'em!!!Will try tomorrow...I use baby wipes once a week to clean/disinfect my brushes, have for years and they work great!!!
iliao93...the ecotools website tells you about the product but doesn't sell it. If you don't have any of the stores nearby you and have to buy them online I found it for $11 at www.target.com. Here's the link. I hope you like them!http://www.target.com/Eco-Tools-5-pc-Brush-Set/dp/B001G71QKO/sr=1-1/qid=1236106322/ref=sr_1_1/192-5258070-5976920?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=0&rh=k%3Aeco%5Ftools&page=1

I love these brushes! I have yet to try the kabuki, but the blush one is so soft and really gives that perfect amount of powder, not to mention blending. The eyeliner brush is a bit more difficult to work with, but you just have to have a lighter hand with it. At least, I do, with my racoon eyes. ;)
iliao93, So sorry! I messed up the hyper-link! It should be all set now though!xox,Meg
I must try these. They are definitely a steal! Love it, love it, love it on my college gal budget. I'll report back after I go to Target...
Hi Meg...I just tried you link several times to buy these brushes and keep getting an error msg ?
I'll have to keep these brushes in mind, what a great deal!!! I've been using the brushes I got from The Body Shop (before Loreal bought them) for over six years now. They too are synthetic (oh so soft), and recyclable. I don't know what the quality is of the brushes that The Body Shop sells anymore, and how expensive they are, but I can tell you that my synthetic brushes have held up a lot longer than any of the natural brushes I had. As a matter of fact, after all these years of use and regular cleaning they look and feel just like the day I got them.
I bought the EcoTool foundation brush for a xmas gift, I got the fusion beauty set for a friend,I needed the brush to go with it for application. the brush wasn't only inexpensive it was beautiful in the green case that looked like linen. The brush, at $5.99, was perfect! I looked at all the brushes and made Ecotool my pick. It was a perfect gift!
I bought the lip brush with a cover and really do like it. I think it is just as good as my pro lip brush. I thought I paid about $4.99 for it.
I recently developed an obsession with brushes, but usually they're so damned expensive! Thanks for this great article, I can't wait to try these brushes!
These brushes are wonderful. I bought them at the spa I work at with my discount =D and i actually use the eyeliner brush as my brow brush as well. i had to break up the edge a little bit because it was really firm for use as a eyeliner brush... but it works great with the cream liners that i love so much.
I did notice these at Walgreens and they did catch my eye. The price did cause me to leave them on the rack. I figured you get what you pay for right?? So glad to hearthey are good! Now I will go back and buy them! I lovethat they are cruelty free, and I love that you do too! Iagree, hurting an animal would never make me FEEL beautiful. So, win=win!! Thanks for the review!
GREAT review!!! I SO new brushes and hate having to replace all at once so I'm hunting these down and will be looking forward to having them to try asap! Target here I come. :)NOTHING like a good value especially in these crazy days!
You are right about brushes being expensive. Once i could only afford 1 Mac brush. I had heard so much about Mac. Well, it sort of was not worth it. I like these brushes and some others better than I did the Mac brush. Seriously, you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for a good brush set.

After reading this review I made a note to myself that the next time I get paid I’m going to go pick these up at Target where I saw them immediately after reading this review! You have different choices of brushes to buy, alone or in sets. I purchased the Eco Tools 6 Piece Brush Set at Target for $8.99 on sale from the regular $10.99 the week of April 21st, 09! I saw this same set on Drugstore.com for 12.99! The ratings on that site were great too! If you look at Buzzlions they have just about unanimous 5 star ratings for this little brush kit and show one price of $11.99! I am satisfied with every brush in the kit and the softness of the blusher brush is wonderful! I'd definitely buy this kit again as well as give it as a sweet little gift to my make-up wearing girlfriends!

Ladies, I was reading the May issue of Real Simple magazine and this set of brushes was in their "beauty secrets from the pros" article. I just sort of chuckled to myself thinking, "Meg's beat you to it!" Yay for Megsmakeup being on the very cutting edge of all things beauty! As if we needed any proof...
HA! We knew before a magazine did. GOD we ROCK!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
I love love love this brush set. They are chic looking, cruelty free, and work great.. not to mention the price! I originally was skeptical about purchasing them because (like you!) the price made me think that they would shed and not last long, but I went ahead and took the risk because I'm always looking for environmentally conscious products and the price was right. I've now had them for months and they're holding up great. They really do not shed. A great buy.
Ecotools are truly amazing products! I have the other Ecotools brush set and it is AMAZING. Not only are the products animal friendly, environmentally friendly, they are GREAT quality and very affordable. I had my mom try them too, and she returned her just purchased department store brush for an Ecotools one!

I love my Ecotools brush set. I can't believe the how great the quality is for the price. I finally had to replace my Cat brushes after a 3 year love affair. ;-) I was looking for a new set and stumbled across these at my local Bed Bath and Beyond.
I am absolutely going to buy these when I have the cash. I do not have a decent set of brushes. This sounds like just the ticket. And cruelty free to boot. I am sold sisters!
I would looooove to try these! I just need to get rid of my $1 brushes from e.l.f. first!
Still LOVING these brushes. One of the best kept secrets out there. I hope everyone can get a set before the jack up the price!
Love, hugs and shoes...Angie
This is my second "group" of brushes. It's awesome. Better than bare escentuals. They don't shed and are just so dense, while applying makeup beautifully! There's nothing bad to say except that I don't need the concealer brush since I already have about 5!
I'm completely in love with this brush set. Everything is soooo soft, especially the blush brush. I got mine on sale at Target for $8.99! I think it's a must-have for any makeup lover!!

i heard a lot of positive reviews about these brushes. personally, im using really horrible face brushes that scratch my face ( i know, time to toss them)... but i wanted to share positive review about ELF eye shadow brushes- they are great and soft and a buck each :)
I've got this one but I haven't touched it yet. Great to hear that it doesn't shed.
i always look at it in the aisle but cant commit to the purchase

I've heard so many good things about these that I ended up giving in and picking them up. I didnt expect them to be anything amazing but OMG they're soft. Like OHEMGEE, soft. And for their price, its even MORE amazing! I've been on the search for a good Kabuki brush as well so I'm glad they had one of those in their brush kits! Yay!
I am absolutely tickled PINK that everyone likes these as much as I do and are enjoying the great benefits of these fab brushes at a steal of a price. Faith24...send me your address. I have an extra set I'd like to gift you just because I can't stand to hear of your beautiful young skin getting scratched by less than stellar brushes. CONTACT ME GIRL!!! GLAM ON!

thanks hun! i left you my info in your guestbook:) so excited!
These brushes are just the best! Thanks again SAG for bringing us such awesome products. And your kindness to Faith is just too sweet. You are a dear!
I would totally invest in these brushes if I didn't already have too many brushes. I love the idea behind the brushes, and the price. My brushes from The Body Shop are pretty eco-friendly since they're recyclable.
At least they are eco friendly. I like:)

I got these at Target the other day because I needed a back-up brush set while I washed and waited for my regular brushes to dry. I'm not crazy about the baby buki, but I really like blush brush, it's great!
I bought two packs of EcoTools brush sets (although I think the sets are different here in Australia). I can't get enough of them. Affordable but fantastic quality synthetic brushes. I'm always looking out for synthetic brushes as I find mineral makeup is easier to use with them. So far EcoTools and Everyday Minerals stock the best ones I have found that don't break the bank.
Oh wow that sounds absolutely wonderful. I'm seriously thinking of ordering some of these beauties! Brushes are the one cosmetic item I don't feel particularly guilty about buying too many of, because they're just SO useful and even if you have two brushes that do the same thing, it just seems that little bit more worthwhile than having two identical eyeshadows or something. ;P
i love these, so cute and wee! Very very soft and very handy for travelling- not as good as the everydayminerals.com brushes, but hey what are!? lol
who loves makeup? me me ME!
I bought ecotools brushes a few months ago. I really love them. I use them everyday. They are such good quality brushes. Brushes will make or break the look you are going for....especially the eye makeup. I like these much better than the set of Sonia Kashuk brushes I bought on sale. Also, you can also use actual paint brushes as makeup brushes. :-)

Alicia Silverstone is designing a line of makeup bags for EcoTools. They're going to be out in December, which means I'll be buying some as holiday gifts for my gal pals. I can't wait to see the designs! They're going to be made from PET and hemp with vegetable dyes.
Very soft brushes I love them

Great Brushes they are so unexpensive and good quality

I got this set and I do like them I like the concealer brush the best, the eyeshadow brush it just too flimsy, but I have to say they aren't as good as everyday minerals brushes !!!
Oh and I forgot to say i really liked the little bag :-)
Your end look really depends on the quality of your brushes!I just ordered the other 5 piece set from Ulta.com a few days ago and I am so excited to try those out!I love that these are so enviro-friendly!I currently have the foundation brush and it is lovely (even though I didn't start using liquid foundations until very recently heehe) and at the same level as my bff's Mac 187 in terms of a flawless finish!
i'm in desperate need of new brushes and these sound like exactly what i need. esp the khabuki (and they're eco-friendly which is a massive bonus!).

i found this product at Target. i bought the brush set and i found the brushes very soft. especially the blush brush and concealer brush. i can do without the eyeshadow brush because i don't think it helps blend at all. not only is it a great tool but great for the environment!
these brushes are really very good. still prefer my everyday minerals ones though!
I love Ecotools brushes, they're as soft and well made as any of the pricier brands, and of course eco-friendly! I hope they expand their selection, I'd buy them all!
